• Feb. 21, 2006 - Imagine That

Following is the intro to a 5-part series on the Grace of God. What a soothing balm His grace is for us, His children. Yet, how many of us understand what it is and how to utilize it? Read on ...

Imagine that your computer crashes right after you finished catching up your family budget information and your daughter finally completed her co-op history report. Ouch!

These situations turn black hair gray instantaneously, without the help of bleach! If you had Microsoft’s Windows operating system called Windows "Me"—short for Windows Millennial Edition it would be no problem. One of its features sounds wonderful. With Me all you have to do is type in the date you want your system restored to and voila! Things are put back as they were before.

I can think of many times in my life when I wish I had that feature. I could hit my "system restore" button to the day before I dripped acetone on the microwave (acetone ruins plastic, trust me on this one!) or to the day prior to when I gossiped, or … you get the idea.

My personal system crashes all the time thanks to my sinful nature and I would love to be able to restore things to the way they were.

God doesn’t actually erase the consequences of our actions, but He promises something even better, to forgive us, to work things out for our good because we love Him. He takes the bad and will makes it new and good. What Windows Me calls "system restore" God calls grace.

GRATEFUL FOR GRACE

We cannot ever erase or atone for our sins. Two years ago we did an issue of TEACH Magazine on "Forgiveness." What a beautiful gift forgiveness is. No matter what, we can be forgiven. No matter what, your debt can be paid in full by the grace of God. Imagine that.

How can you ever make up for the wrongs you have done? You can’t. God’s grace can.

Envision grace. Imagine this, you can be made spotless of your sins – regardless of what they are, regardless of how often you have committed this sin – even when you haven't corrected the wrong yourself.

That is grace, getting what you do not deserve. Wow! Isn’t that just almost too much to comprehend?

I love grace!! I think my most blessed moments as a mother is when I am sensitive enough to the Holy Spirit to extend this gift of grace to my children. In those moments when I can actually give them a living example of what God has done for us, I am filled with the purpose for staying home with them.

Please enter me in the drawing! With three young daughters, I would love this study! Thanks - Kristen

Lorrie - I am constantly amazed by God's grace and His obvious - and not so obvious - leading in my life, and then I am amazed by the people I meet and become acquainted with, either in person or in writing or online. I clicked on the "Post a Comment" and the next thing I know I have my own weblog...WOW!!! I am amazed at how much I still have to learn (especially about navigating the web and just using my computer) and at how much I can learn in one day. My first posted entry on my weblog was simply a statement of thanks and appreciation for all of the people out there such as yourself who have made it so much easier for people like me who are trying to get started in homeschooling because you share so selflessly what you have learned and the wisdom you have to pass on. Thank you so very much for taking the time to care and share and develop resources for the rest of us to use for years to come...What a legacy!!

I have 2 girls, so...
About the grace thing, I seem to really lack it with my kids. This post was especially significant to me today, because as my day slowly starting unravelling before school ever began (3 yod dumped bowl of cereal in her lap, 2 yos dumped remaining box of dry cereal on floor, 10 yos knocked glass wall votive onto floor while sweeping above said cereal, 8 yod starting crying as my voice starting rising...) I noticed that my patience and grace bestowed on my kids is not unconditional.
After about 3 hours of growling our way through school, my 8 yod asked if she could pray the fruits of the Spirit over me...OUCH!
I'm looking forward to your posts on grace as that's an area I covet from the Lord, but am apparently struggling to model back to my kids.
Thanks for the heart lift today.

• Feb. 23, 2006 - Forgiveness

Posted by PosterGirl
Reading this just brought to my mind that forgiveness is the best of both worlds. What I mean by that is that God forgives us and wipes the slate clean, and does not charge our sin against us. But by allowing us to go through the consequences, we are growing and learning. If He just wiped it ALL away, I imagine I'd just keep doing and doing and doing the same mistakes and sins. We don't get the eternal punishment, but we do get the learning experience. I know I'd never recognize I needed to alter my course otherwise. He truly does work ALL things to our good and He works in lives in spite of our sinful flesh!

Hi, Lorrie.
You do not know me, but I feel like I know you personally.
(Won't heaven be grand when we can all get together for a big family reunion and meet all of our brothers and sisters in Christ? I am so looking forward to that day!)
I have been getting your e-zine for quite some time and have always thought it would be nice to get TEACH. Well, my dear husband just ordered me a two-year subscription. I am already looking forward to getting the first issue in the mail.
I want to say a BIG thanks! for all the time, effort, prayer and just plain old hard work you put in to being an encouragement to all of us Christian, home schooling mothers across the miles. May God's blessings continue to be on you and your family.
Grateful with love and prayers,
Felicia Doss
