Yes, there really is a State Fair just for East Texas.

The ET State Fair is no longer distributing printed free tickets, INSTEAD...
they are providing a link on their website to print your own ticket.

These tickets are valid for students ages High School Senior Level and
younger on Monday, Sept. 24th, Tuesday, Sept. 25th and Wed. Sept. 26 from
4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

To print a ticket follow these instructions:

1. Go to www.etstatefair.com
2. Click on the *Tickets and Hours* button
3. Click on *Gate Tickets*
4. Click on *Student Days Free Ticket*
5. Print

That is all there is to it!  Just bring the ticket to the Fair and they will
honor it as free gate admission per the date, time and age rules.

For those in the DFW Area, or 100 miles from the Dallas State Fair, yes, you could have gotten free tickets for that one also.  I'll let you know next year, as the deadline has already passed to sign up for free tickets.
