Rosetta Stone

Posted in Spring

Rosetta Stone has been the #1 foreign language curriculum among homeschoolers for a while -- next week they are unleashing a brand new curriculum, and you can WIN the *all new* Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3… FOR FREE!

This is a $219 program (and believe me it's worth every penny!) and the winner gets to pick from any of these 14 languages: Spanish (Spain or Latin America), English (American or British), Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Irish, Hebrew, or Russian.

This will also include a headset with microphone, and students will participate in lifelike conversations and actually produce language to advance through the program.  Rosetta Stone still incorporates listening, reading and writing as well, in addition to speaking.  Many homeschoolers requested grammar and vocabulary exercises, and with Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3, they're included!  For parents, the new Parent Administrative Tools are integrated into the program and allow parents to easily enroll students in any of 12 predetermined lesson plans, monitor student progress, and view and print reports.

To win this most excellent program -- in the language of your choice -- copy these (blue) paragraphs and post it in (or as) your next blog post -- then to enter the contest, go to the original contest page HERE: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/JenIG/501132/  and leave a comment with the link showing where you blogged about it.  And please make sure the link works to get back to the original contest page when you post it.  And good luck!  The winner will be picked randomly on March 26, and will be notified thru the link they left to their blog pg.   And if you have more than one blog, you can post them and enter those separately for more chances to win.   Yay for free stuff!

Shew. what a weekend!

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

WHAT BUSY DAYS WE ARE HAVING!

It all started on Friday with the anticipation of meeting SHAY and her family. They were coming all the way from South Carolina to bring our family some new kittens. JENIG and her family were also coming. So I had to hurry and get some food ready to feed these folks as well my own family.  I ended up making some pretty nice looking deer kabobs which we cooked on the grill. Our  friends from South Carolina got held up in traffic and the rest of us refused to starve until they got here so we began eating.

Before we knew it THEY arrived! This "little" southern lady came out of her Suburban and boy was she nice! I felt like I already knew her. AND what a precious family!  Shay brought me a wonderful  music chime thing that we hung just outside our front door.  And the kittens are the cutest new barn cats that you have sever seen.

The next day we headed to Curry Farm. Angie also joined us. Now I am always blessed when I am around Angie. She is another very sweet lady. She also gave me gifts. Some wonderfully smelling hand soap and some of the jam she had just made. I haven't tried it yet but SAMIAM said it was delicious! While there Jen gave me the very hard to find TOS copy with the Civil War theme. I was delighted! Our family has been studying the Civil War and I have been searching for it for some time. Mission accomplished thanks to Jen. I also got to try Coies goat milk. I thought it tasted like.. well...milk. I am not a milk drinker but I did it for Coie cause she is such a great girl.   What a blessed momma Jen is.

Sunday our family went to church and than I went out shopping. My oldest daughters wedding is coming close and we are having a second shower for her. So she will soon be the owner of a new purple vacumn. I hope it works as good as it looks. We also picked up a couple of other things. One thing being the prettiest pitcher and goblets I have ever seen. I almost bought a set for our house.  I'm thinking now that if she decides she doesn't want it I will take it back. hehehehe

Monday we started off early with our A.T.I.C. day in the park. It was a success! There were a few bloggers there except THIS ONE who was blessed to be in Panama City for the week. I got to meet THS FAMILY whose blog I bumped into last week. The amazing thing is that we were on a similar farm land/ house journey but the Lord took our families on different paths. Our doors have closed, theirs continue to open. Isn't the Lord  amazing! I am so happy for their family.  I am also happy that they brought some great stuff  that I scooped up to add to my cluttered  home sweet home.

It was an amazing day. It really was fun to bless one another.  I was surprised at how much was left over and that it all fit in the Ig's trailer.

Boy that Coie can do just about anything. She drove the trailer back home herself!

Here are some pictures of the day

My 40 year old husband and my busy days

Posted in Spring
One of the highlights of the past two weeks was celebrating my husbands 40th birthday. We were really good about keeping his surprise party a secret. I tried not to bring it up too much with the little ones, just in case they'd let it slip out by accident. They were all so very excited to surprise dear "old" daddy. It all was going rather well. No mention of a party, and he didn't seem to notice anything different until the morning of which was amazing to me.

The day and night before the party I spent several hours in the kitchen.  I wasn't just cleaning.... I was doing my best to prepare food for the next day, secretly. Remember now -- I'm really not very good at anything in particular, but I am clever at putting parties together and organizing events. You can just ask some of my friends.

I remember that on the morning of the party day it was so lovely outside.  It was nice and warm, the flowers were blooming and the birds were singing and the yard work was calling my name. My family was outside enjoying the sunshine. No one came inside to ask me to play nor work or come see this or that.  I was glad because there was still plenty to do.

The surprise was still on even after  this..............

My dh came into the house and noticed that I was making a rather LARGE tray of fresh fruits. It included pineapple, cantaloupe and grapes. He admired it and said.

"WOW! Moms going to town with the fruit!" After a short pause he continued with "What, are we having a party?"

I simply smiled and replied, "It's a little snack for later." My dh than proceeded to go back to the great outdoors. Was that a lie? I did begin to feel a little bit guilty. You decide.

I invited a couple of our dearest friends, which included our two friends from out of town, our homeschooling neighbors, and  my dh's fishing and hunting pals from church. We expecting everyone to arrive around 3. We needed to start decorating atleast an hour before. I wasn't sure of any way to do that and he not notice. We began to bring out the balloons the children blew a day or two before and put up streamers. As he came through the door I threw the balloons into the air and announced that we were indeed having a party for his 40th birthday.  He was very surprised and tickled with the idea. I explained that his guests would arrive by three and we than gave him our gifts. The children had each made him a card and I purchased a gift from all of us.

This may come as a shock to some

          we got him

THIS

Believe it or not, my dh had been wanting one of these for some time.
I've never sewn. Maybe I will learn one day and get really really good at it.

Instead of gifts, I had asked that everyone bring something for the dinner table.
We had a feast!

Here is the cake a friend made. She is a wonderful cake decorater. I just told her to not make anything with the black "over the hill" stuff. It was indeed not black but chocolate. It was PERFECT! Isn't chocolate always perfect!?! It even came with a deer head magnet. Perfect for my husband the deer hunter.

Don't ask me why I put 5 candles on the cake. It actually worked out nicely. I really only wanted to use 4. The extra was brought to our homechooling friend and lit while we sang Happy Birthday to him. It was really his birthdate. Can you believe this kind man came to my huband's party on his very own birth-day? Now that is an unselfish friend.

On the actual day of my husbands birthday we had another get together and invited
this family over to help move a piano out of our basement and into the buyers vehicle. It was a very fun evening. I will miss that big old grand but it was taking up too much space.

I am finding it hard to believe that my baby is 6 months old. That's half a year already!!

I love him so much.  He is such a joy to be with. He is such a treasure. I am so blessed!

My sister, my brother in law (who is like the brother I never had) and my beautiful nieces and sweet nephew will arrive this weekend, God willing.  It will surely be a full house. Full of love, full of activity and full of joy!

We will have  another birthday to celebrate, a tea party to attend and plans to make for the upcoming wedding of my oldest daughter. I won't be around here too much. This season of my life is full of tasks that occupy my time and children that seem to be growing way to fast.  I am only one mommy and sometimes my days demand atleast one more. What  a blessing it is though..... to be needed and loved by so many people. I don't deserve it all but I accept it with joy. God is good!

“The length of our days is seventy years—or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away ... Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”  Psalm 90: 10,12

ISHMAEL

Posted in Spring
We are enjoying the HSB Literary Club selection ISMAEL .

My favorite quote from today' reading is "Mark you this, dear reader --- in light and music is the Creator forever worshipped by Nature. When the sun sets, the stars shine; and when the birds sleep, the insects sing!"
Ismael by E.D.E.N. Southworth,
Chapter XX  - "At His Mother's Grave"

Isn't that lovely?!

Just Flowers ?

Posted in Spring
I remember while growing up I wasn't  a big fan of flowers. To me flowers were just flowers and they really had little meaning back than. I was also the kind of little girl that didn't play with baby dolls so what did I know??

Now as an adult  there have been so many times in my life that flowers have brought me to pause.

Flowers now show me.....
 ~LOVE~

These flowers (above) were picked from my yard just yesterday by my 4 year old son. He brought them in behind his back as he gave me a great big smile. SAMIAM placed them in a vase for me and than took this picture. You can see her reflection in the glass.  The love of my children!

This vase of flowers is extra special. My dear husband has kept it full of fresh flowers.  I've recently noticed that I've neglected to note that he has replaced them with fresh ones when the old ones get thrown out. The love of my husband.

Last month my best friend was so proud of the fact that she remembered my birthday but did not know my age. That alone is love. She brought me these flowers that still look wonderfully fresh. Along with the flowers she included a vase showing red hats with purple ribbons standing for the RED HAT SOCIETY  of women. She made me laugh. It was cute and I hated to tell her that I wasn't quite old enough to join up yet. The love of a friend.

Last weekend I hosted a bridal party for the attendants in my oldest daughters upcoming wedding.  She was engaged this past Christmas and the wedding will be in mid June. I purchased these beautiful spring flowers to put out on our porch.  I had to do a little front door spring cleaning and I wanted them to be the first thing that people saw when they reached the door. Normally you can find rocks, muddy shoes, sticks of all kinds, muddy shoes, cat hair and an occasion treasure from the creek, woods or yard and we usually have lots of muddy shoes.

Today flowers don't just remind me of weddings, and birthdays and the everyday. Flowers remind me of the awesome Creator that made them. He gives us flowers for us to marvel at and enjoy. I am amazed at the time and creative hand that has gone into each petal, stalk and all the breathtaking colors.

Flowers are also a very necessary aspect of life, and God just happened to make them beautiful. Why?

Just because He loves us!

Flowers remind me of His Love.

About Me

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under the sun. A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill and a time to heal ... a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance ... a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to lose and a time to seek; a time to rend and a time to sew; a time to keep silent and a time to speak; a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
