Aug. 10, 2008 Updating in August
We started "back to school" this past Monday and took Friday off.
It was the perfect day to be outdoors. A great
We ended up in Gatlinburg. We did some window shopping. We had lunch just outside some fountains. Talked to the tourists. Visited the Aquarium (we have season passes) and caught up with some friends.
The most exciting news of the day is the fact that I was able to park my vehicle without having to use a parking garage. We've always been funny about paying for parking but with having taken classes to the Aquarium this past school year we had to park in the lot several times and shell out $3 - $5 each time.
Well that really isn't the only exciting news for that day for me. Only the half of it. THE most exciting news for the day is the fact that I not only found a parking space on the road but that I was able to successfully parallel park my gigantic vehicle between two cars. Trust me this is an awesome feat for this woman. Now if I had been driving our little economical Nissan, there would be no need to bring this up. But this indeed is one for the record which I will not forget for years to come.

Flowers along the river walk.

While we walked to the Aquarium I noticed this lovely butterfly flying from flower to flower.
I immediately thought of TNLisa who has posted some pictures of some beautiful butterflies that she has seen this summer.

And one last thing. I am so proud of my daughter Sarah. She has taken such wonderful care of the new flower beds her daddy started around our flag pole. It's brought me joy to watch her fill up her buckets and pull our little red wagon to keep these alive all summer. I have to admit, I am not that good. Flowers die in my care.

I am not sure what is in store for us this school year but I do believe this promise.............
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11 |

Jul. 24, 2008 Greetings From the Garden
We have been busy and rather lazy gardeners. Thankfully my neighbor came over last night and we toured each others gardens. We were able to pick a few things amongst our weeds.

What you see is what we got. One ear of corn (there is more but I want to pick it fresh when we're ready to eat it), several green beans (DITTO) and some very sweet tomatoes.
This morning Joe and I went blueberry picking. We left the house just before 7AM and came home with 6 pounds of blueberries. It was a great date!
We all had a delicious breakfast of freshly baked blueberry muffins.
From this .............

to this.............

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

Friends please call, or e-mail me if you would like to know what we're up to.
So for now I will say farewell. I may return one day.

Jun. 11, 2008 All is not lost
Jun. 10, 2008 Strawberry Picking - NOT
Jun. 9, 2008 I should blog more
Lately it seems that many things in my life have taken a back seat.
Blogging is one of them.
I have to honestly say I don't miss it all that much. My life is so full and busy with lots of good things that need my attention, I really have to make an effort to sit here and type.
But alas, I am here writing today, tonight actually. We had a busy day in the garden this evening. I should of got some pictures but I was busy trying to keep dirt out from under my nails. Which I failed at but was successful at removing in the shower later.
Today was a typical busy day. Let me give you a glimpse.
7am - Baby arises and we both start the day running. We catch daddy and we both get to kiss him good bye before he sneaks off to work.
8am - By now the rest of my blessings are up and the animals are getting fed, the flowers are getting watered and breakfast is about done. All but the dishes. They usually have to be loaded or we have a load waiting to be unloaded. Such is the duty of dishes.
9:30 - Today we had a few errands to run so I took all the children with me and we left home early in hopes of being back before the heat attacked. We've been having some humid hot days. They have been no fun!
10:00 - We arrived at Walmart as the bank opened to make a deposit. Today we were here for diapers, wipes, shampoo & conditioner, and flowers. I also got a small pool for the little ones to splash in because it's hot and I like them to go out and play sometimes even when it is hot.
10:45 - My children were thirsty and we still had a bit to do so we stopped at Sonic for a couple of very icy cold drinks.
Our next stop was to the post office to mail my dad a Father's day gift. Thankfully I had my act together this year and mailed him the dress shorts I bought him last year for Father's Day. I also packed a card with it and pictures from the trip we took a couple of weeks ago. My sister and I made a point to get dad surrounded by all his grandchildren. They weren't perfect pictures, at least not the ones I took. One picture shows one or two looking away and another a baby crying. Surely it is better than not having any pictures at all.
I know I haven't blogged about our trip out East yet. It will be a future post, promise.
Shortly after 11:00 a.m. we arrived at the Library to sign up for the summer reading program. I haven't done those in years but I thought it may be good this year as we will be trying to stay closeer to home with all our activities.
Just past noon we finished up a trip to the grocery store and headed home for lunch. As we traveled I decided we should stop by and see daddy who was working a couple of miles from our house. We found out that he was going to wrap things up by 3. This would be a Dollywood day. So we headed back home had lunch and I attempted to get the baby down for a nap. "Attempted" is the key word. He never did fall a sleep. He has been doing that lately. Sunday however he slept an amazing 3 hours straight.
By 3:30 we were heading out to Dollywood to find that it had started raining. We later found out that it only rained in that area. We got NO rain at our house. So we spent the whole day waiting for rides to open on account of lighting being too close. They close the rides if there is lightning within 6 miles of the park. No loss really because we were going there to get wet and we surly did that as it rained most of the time we were there. We stayed cool anyway. We also got to be under cover and watch a hail storm. That was one of the greatest things that could have happened. We immediately had a science lesson.
We headed back home just before closing time which meant a late dinner.
At 7:00, instead of the usual 5:00, we were saying grace and thankful for another wonderfully blessed day. I commanded requested Samiam to unload the dishwasher and load it with the new dishes. I headed to get baby down for the night. HE WAS TIRED NOW!
We headed outside to work on the garden and plant our new flowers. I'll try to remember to get some pictures tomorrow and post those soon. We also watered. DH started a new project. He is always doing something. We were blessed with a huge shed earlier this year and he has decided to run electricity to it.
Shew........... what a busy day.
Tomorrow we will be out by 8 (that's the plan) to pick strawberries. I am hoping to beat the heat.
One thing about having several children, you have plenty of hands for strawberry picking.
I am going to totally take advantage of that! |

May. 1, 2008 Has it been that long?

All. is. well.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

Mar. 30, 2008 How do you like it?
How do you like my new template?
I love it. Thanks goes to my very lovely and creative daughter who didn't wait for me to ask. She just made it and put it up so I could be surprised and say WOW!
I haven't been here in a while. It's still a busy place at our house. My oldest son has started playing flag football. Our family is participating in a production of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe with a local homeschool support group. Our baby is still not walking but he is thinking about it. I can tell.
Caleb will be preparing for his Grad K graduation soon. Sami is going to start learning to drive a manual transmission car. I remember when I first learned.. my that is one scary memory. I'm pleased to add that when we bought this "new" little car it all came back to me. So maybe I am really not that old after all.
The girls are getting ready for their dance recital.
Many new things going on and many things coming to an end for us.
So I thought I'd post to let you all know that we are all alive and well.. in case anyone was wondering.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. Proverbs 13:4 |

Mar. 20, 2008 Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone has been the #1 foreign language curriculum among homeschoolers for a while -- next week they are unleashing a brand new curriculum, and you can WIN the *all new* Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3… FOR FREE!
This is a $219 program (and believe me it's worth every penny!) and the winner gets to pick from any of these 14 languages: Spanish (Spain or Latin America), English (American or British), Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Irish, Hebrew, or Russian.
This will also include a headset with microphone, and students will participate in lifelike conversations and actually produce language to advance through the program. Rosetta Stone still incorporates listening, reading and writing as well, in addition to speaking. Many homeschoolers requested grammar and vocabulary exercises, and with Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3, they're included! For parents, the new Parent Administrative Tools are integrated into the program and allow parents to easily enroll students in any of 12 predetermined lesson plans, monitor student progress, and view and print reports.
To win this most excellent program -- in the language of your choice -- copy these (blue) paragraphs and post it in (or as) your next blog post -- then to enter the contest, go to the original contest page HERE: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/JenIG/501132/ and leave a comment with the link showing where you blogged about it. And please make sure the link works to get back to the original contest page when you post it. And good luck! The winner will be picked randomly on March 26, and will be notified thru the link they left to their blog pg. And if you have more than one blog, you can post them and enter those separately for more chances to win. Yay for free stuff! |
