I homeschool because I love these children that have been loaned to me by God, He has entrusted me with their care and I don't want to disappoint Him. I'm also selfish and don't want to share them with the government! : )

I will homeschool through graduation because my responsibility doesn't end just because they have become teenagers.

If I could give only ONE, great, ummmmm, because you can't give them back to God if the public school system and government take control of them. Or at least it really complicates things.

1. I homeschool because I love my children, and this is the responsibility God gave us. To teach them His ways and write His word upon their hearts.

2. I will homeschool through high school because I will not throw away all the years of careful training and teaching by placing them in the worst possible social scenario I know of. High school is a feast of ill will. My children are being raised to share their faith with the world when they are ready, and I do not feel that the tender teenage years (that I am so looking forward to sharing), are the appropriate time to judge right and wrong with each passing moment.

3. The one reason I would give to someone considering homeschooling is this: If they are already "considering" the idea, then they just need to do it. It is the right choice. Period. Each day is a blessing from God, why would you not share that with your precious children?

1. Why do you homeschool?
First let me start by saying that I am a second generation homeschooler. My parents pulled my younger brother and sister out of school and gave me the option of finishing high school at home. I chose to go back to public school.
I had a horrible school experience, especially my 8th grade through freshman year of high school. School had always been easy for me, and I was always in the accelerated classes. School was boring. What made me want to go were my friends. I had friends that were having sex during class breaks, smoking and doing drugs in the bathrooms, and causing general mayhem anytime that they could. I was sucked into that lifestyle when I got my first boyfriend. He was physically abusive, and I didn't know what to do. School had taught me that my parents were stupid, and I shouldn't talk to them or value their opinion. I should talk to the school counselor. That is what I did. She told me it was my fault he was hitting me. This led to great depression and a further withdrawal from my family.
I had an eye opening experience when his anger drove him to bring a hunting knife to school. I realized if I stayed, I wouldn't survive. I went home that day and told my mom and dad that I would never go back again. I didn't tell them why.
It took me 6 months to realize my parents were not the enemy. I finished high school in a year and gradually returned to my former self. It took many years for me to realize that the abuse was not my fault.
I homeschool because I know the Lord used homeschooling to save my life. I know through much prayer that the Lord has led me to homeschool. I never want my children to have to experience something that physically and emotionally devastating. I never want my children to be taught that I or their father am their enemy. I want our family to have values that are so different from what society holds dear.
There are also the educational and spiritual reasons. Children in school can only be taught what is found acceptable by society and government. The Bible teaches we are to teach our children what is acceptable to God. I believe those things are contrary to what is taught in our schools today.
Educationally, I am able to teach my kids at the pace they learn a particular subject. If we struggle with multiplication, we can go back and go over it until we get it. Sometimes it means over and over and over again. If they pick something up just like that, we can go on and get to something a little more challenging.
One of my biggest reasons, I get to experience all those firsts. There are so many we take for granted. First word, first step, first solid food, first lemon. But what about first lost tooth, first sincere apology at hurting someone else, first acceptance of someone with a disability, first wonder at a bug, etc. We are parents for such a short time, we should enjoy every minute of it!

2. Will you homeschool through graduation?
The answer is absolutely yes! I knew that sending my children to school would not be an option for me. Some of the most formative years for our children are their teens and letting someone else be responsible to guide and direct them does not sit well with me. Especially someone who most likely has a very different view than what the Bible teaches.

3. The friend question.
Don't miss one more day with your children. Don't miss one more first. You should continue to be their biggest influence, and their teacher even after they reach school age.

I homeschool because God told me to.
My piano teacher that I had when I was around 10 had homeschooled her son and that always stayed in the back of my mind. When our first was only 3, we started researching homeschooling. I toured private schools and thought they seemed great but it just didn't "feel" right to me. I answered God's call and have not looked back.

If God tells me to homeschool them through high school, I will. I absolutely LOVE homeschooling so I pray that he allows me the privilege of continuing the journey.

Oh this is a hard one....only one reason?? Well, I guess I would have to say the closeness that you have with your children is absolutely the best reason to homeschool.

Origionally we began homeschooling because I knew that a few disagreeable things were happening in the public school setting and also I began to see it as a privilege to homeschool our own children. After all, time is short and did I really want my children spending half their lives away from me? That was eleven years when our oldest was three years old. As time went on I would hear people that were still sending their children to public school complain and tell what was happening there. I would think to myself, "how could you send your children to an institution that has such things going on?". My children are so precious and husband and I would do anything to keep them from harm. When there's a remote change of them getting hit with a car near the road we train them to stay away from the road. The same is with public school.

Sending our children to public school is not an option even for high school. I don't want our children turning out like I see today's youth turning out due to peer pressure and the socialization that is promoted. People bring up the socialization issue with homeschooling. BINGO! This is exactly a good reason why we don't send them to public school, especially in those high school years. I think of school as for learning and not a social club. Even if we were to join a social club it would be with one of our own choosing and not one where anyone could attend especially if it was being paid with teh high cost of our children's safety or even their souls. And when people ask of socialization do they not care that public school promotes bad socialization? For us, healthy socialization has to do with the concept of including people of different ages and backgrounds all together in one healthy setting. Grouping people by age groups together in one room or building for half the year is not our family's idea of good socialization. Is this teaching your children how to deal with society?

I have had several friends who have come to me with the homeschooling question on their hearts. Especially if they are christian I ask them what their goal is for their children. Most of the time it is answered that they want their children to become solid christians ready to serve in however way the Lord intends. I help them realize that the home enviroment is so much friendlier to nurturing that goal more so than any public school ever could. As parents we are able to be sensitive to our children's goals, talents, calling and burdens. We are able to help them fulfill all of those things. Are other teachers going to take the time out to make sure all of those things are accomplished to YOUR satisfaction? Is it even possible? Then if the parents are not strong christians and could really care less about what the Lord has in mind and I want to discourage them from public school I just tell them to read the newspaper! It seems all the time the public media reveals so many things going wrong in the public school setting or at least things that have stemmed from that setting.
For us homeschooling is the only way to achieve all that the Lord commands and to walk in His word....to be the salt and light.

We homeschool because we think it is the very best way to educate our children. There is nothing in Scripture telling us that we don't bear the responsibility for training up our children, quite the opposite! We are mandated to teach our children and raise them up...no where is that privilege given over to a school, government or otherwise.
We will continue to homeschool through graduation with our youngest daughter. Our oldest two have already graduated from our homeschool and gone on to college, where we continued to guide them, teach them truth and to seek the Lord's will.
If I could give a friend only ONE good reason to start homeschooling it would be because you will begin the most incredible journey you could ever imagine; a journey to your child's heart, to your own and to the very heart of Jesus!

We plan to (unless we hear God saying otherwise). Why do we plan to? Well, why not? That's the better question to ask. :o)

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

The FUN of being able to be close with your children. Homeschooling provides a great vehicle for that (it's not going to guarantee that, mind you, but it provides an excellent framework for it to happen in).

I love having my children with me and being able to teach them the values that my husband & I feel that they should learn. We also own our business and it helps to be able to have them with us and to be able to pick up and go when we have a business trip to go on.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
I think that we will. I have no plans to ever put them in public or private school. I dont think that they would enjoy it much. I would miss them and quite honestly I don't feel that is where God wants my kids.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
I beleive that homeschooling strengthens family relationships through the day to day of living life together through the good, bad, easy and stressful.

1. Why do you homeschool?
I think it must be a calling from the Lord. That is the only way I can explain a conviction that supercedes all the "reasons" we had for starting to homeschool--poor PS system, too expensive CS, daughter with seizures ("How can they take care of her?"). I continue because of this conviction, and because I can't imagine myself doing anything else and feeling the same satisfaction I get from this.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation?
I plan hopefully to continue through graduation. It would have to be something major to make it not an option.
Why/why not? Why undo all I have strived to reach during the elementary years--a closeness with family, a love of God and desire to serve him, a love of learning? Plus, I want to do it over with them. I am learning so much now. I don't want to stop.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
The rewards far outweigh the hardships!

1. Why do you homeschool?

WHY? OH SO MANY REASONS!!!!

-to teach our children to love the Lord their God and acknowledge Him in everything they do
-to instill Godly character in our children
-to teach them to have a Biblical worldview in all they do
-to teach them to LOVE to learn, rather than simple regurgitation of meaningless facts
-to give them academic excellence
-to structure our life around our family, and not around school
-to give our special needs daughter the best education she could receive
-to give our nonspecial needs kids the best education they could receive
-to teach them that learning never really starts or ends---that it is a lifelong journey
-to teach our children to celebrate the little things and enjoy the journey, one day at at time

I could go on! :) But those are the biggies!


2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?

By the grace of God we will, and by Him alone. We take this one year at a time, but yes, it is a lifelong commitment and I will be so pleased to finish it with homeschooled graduates. As stated above, learning is a life-long process that never really stops or graduates.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

Because YOU love your child more than any expert or teacher ever could. And that is enough.

1. I homeschool because I believe they are getting the best education here. Their relationships with each other are still intact and I expect it to remain that way. I believe in family allegiance. I believe that God holds us responsible for our children's education, whether that be homeschool, private, or public school. There is no excuse for not taking an active part in our children's education.

2. I intend to homeschool all my children to the end. However, my plans may not be God's, so I cannot predict what our future holds.

3. The best reason for homeschooling is the relationship you get to have with your children again. Remember the first step your child took? Remember how excited and proud you were? Now, imagine the first time their face lights up when they start to read a story and come across a familiar character. Or when they finally understand that tough math concept you've been working on for weeks. It doesn't seem like it would be that exciting (we've all been programmed to believe that is the teacher's territory), but it is every bit as exciting as watching them take that first step. You would have cried if you missed that first step (or did, if it happened at daycare). Don't miss another milestone, stay home with them.

Two and a half years ago we finally found a house to buy. Our new home was between the school district we had sent James to for kindergarten and the school district my dh and I had graduated from. I joked with my dh that if the district lines had changed and we were moving into our former district we would see it as a sign from God that we needed to homeschool...these words flew from my mouth with the cocky assurance that we were safely moving into our son's district.
We sign the papers on the house and move in.
A week later we discover that we missed James' district by a hundred yards.
True to my word I began homeschooling...shallow and unspiritual, but that was the deciding factor.

Unless the Lord leads us otherwise, we will homeschool through graduation. We may have gotten off to a shallow start, but there is no turning back now. My dh and I have fallen in love with our children in a whole new way and couldn't turn them over for government training now any more than we could drop them off at the pound...it would be absurd.

My advice to anyone considering homeschooling would be to jump in with both feet...barefoot and into mud puddles!
Seriously, if anyone told me how cool finger painting and leaf collections could be the second time around I'd have never considered public education in the first place.

Turns out I'm way better at hopscotch now than I was 20 years ago...
Were it not for homeschooling I'd have never known that!

I homeschool because my children are the most precious gift God has given to my husband and I. He is trusting us to care for them, raise them and teach them to follow Him in all they do. How could we not homeschool when these years are the most important and influential years of their lives?!? Our decision to homeschool was so easy since to us it was the only option.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
Lord willing yes. It is certainly our desire to homeschool right through the high school years. Why quit while you're ahead!?! If you've gone right through the first 8 years, why not see it to the end? I can't wait to dive into the high school years with our children. To re-learn what I don't remember, and learn for the first time, things I never learned, will be exciting and fun with my children. I also want to be available to them right through those difficult teenage years. I know they'll be challenging, but with prayer and the right attitude, those years could be the best ones yet!

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
I'd tell them that there's no greater reward than to teach and train your children to be men and women of Christ. Homeschooling will open doors with your children that you never knew existed!

** Because I forgot everything I went to nine years of college for after four children and I need a good motivator to relearn it all.

** Of course! I'm not doing all this work just to have the PS system mess them up at the end! That's like making a delicious cake and letting your dog pee on it.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
** You chose to raise your kids. Do you really want to give them up for adoption by the State at this stage in the game? (If they already have, wouldn't they like to have them BACK?)

J. Because the time I have with my kids is short enough as it is... and I had them to raise them (not let someone else do it).

T. Because we move a lot (husband's job), and it would be torture for the kids to have to be pulled in and out of schools.
U. Because we feel the Lord calling us to lead our kids (and don't like where the public schools are leading kids).
V. Because there ain't gun-toting skinheads or drug pushers in my home.
W. Because learning doesn't always have to be done at a desk.
X. Because ADD doesn't have to be medicated if you are homeschooling - ADD kids are gifted and wonderful! Just like ADD Moms (Like me!)!

I plan on it, although I'm quite sure I don't have enough strength on my own. Good thing that God equips the called, not calls the equipped.

Why/why not?
Honestly, have you seen what some of the liberal colleges are turning out these days? Just the other day some guy wrote a comment on my blog about how he was homeschooled by MISSIONARIES (Christian parents who work in overseas missions) and lost his faith when he started taking classes in a community college. I'm not so sure we shouldn't even consider homeschooling them for college. Hey - Abraham Lincoln did it for himself, why not?

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
Because they couldn't do a worse job than public schools are already doing... and besides that, God will see them through it if He brought them to it.

I am planning to! It's all in God's hands, but I have no reason to stop. If preschool was important, highschool is crucial!

You will never regret the time you invest in your relationship with your kids. My 12 year old still holds my hand in public! What more can a mom ask for?

1.Why do you homeschool?
"My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." Colossians 2:2-3 That's the main reason but there are more :).

-I homeschool because it gives me the opportunity (everyday...all day long) to teach & train my kids, and instill Biblical values in them. "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6 My kids are taught about priorities in life: GOD first, family second. My kids are taught to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" and to "love your neighbor as yourself."

-I homeschool because my kids and I can pray anytime, can read the Bible anytime, can praise and worship God anytime, can quote Bible verses anytime, and can discuss about God & His Word anytime. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on YOUR CHILDREN. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deuteronomy 6:5-7

-I homeschool because I want my kids to realize that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge."

-I homeschool because I want my kids to see that Jesus Christ is our ultimate Role Model!

-I homeschool because I want to help my kids embrace eternal perspective/Biblical perspective.

-I homeschool because I want to equip my kids so that (in hopes that) a. they will always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks them to give the reason for the hope that they have, b. they will boldly proclaim the Gospel, and c. they will faithfully serve the King of kings.

-I homeschool because I enjoy spending time with my kids. I treasure every moment (good and bad). They grow so fast. I love to witness their different stages. I love listening to my kids talk. I love hearing them laugh, joke around, and encourage one another.

-I homeschool because I get to know my kids more and more each day. I get to know and appreciate their likes, their dislikes, their interests, their talents, their learning styles, and their unique personalities.

-I homeschool because my kids are safe & secure and are learning in a loving, non-judgmental environment ("home").

-I homeschool because at home...my kids are free to be themselves...to be who God wants them to be. Free to question, free to explore, free to discuss, free to pursue what they're interested in, free to sing (make a joyful noise in class), free to lie down on the floor while studying, free to jump up and down or play basketball while doing spelling tests (orally), free to have snacks while reading, free to get mom's hugs anytime they want :), etc.

-I homeschool because I love it when my kids ask me questions and show the desire to know more. I love seeing their enthusiasm/love of learning.

-I homeschool because we can be flexible with our time management. We don't have to rush (go..go..go) in the morning. We can take breaks when we need or want to. We can take our vacation during the school year. We can go to places during the school hours and find parking spots. Yeah!

-I homeschool because I don't want my kids to be exposed to all the awful things that are going on in public schools and even in some Christian private schools (drugs, swearing, immodesty, violence, bullies, inappropriate talks/discussion, cheating, lying, name-calling, bad manners, disrespectfulness, defiance against authority, peer pressure, bad influences, etc.)

-I homeschool because I don't want my kids to be constantly exposed to sicknesses/germs like school children.

-I homeschool because I get to learn right along with my kids. It's a lot of fun!

-I homeschool because I love to see my kids help one another out. The older ones help teach the younger ones. They have developed such a strong bond. Precious memories...precious relationship, indeed!

Bonus: I get to make friends with all the wonderful homeschool parents (and their children) like you homeschoolbloggers here :).

2.Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
Lord willing, yes..yes..yes (each yes for each kid). Why? Why stop the good thing? I don't want to see all our investments yield negative returns. I am not going to throw my kids into the devil's playing field on purpose. The devil has his home court advantage in public schools for sure. Even strong players are known to stumble and lose when they play away from their home court. Let's give our kids home court advantage as long as we possibly can :)!

3.One good reason/advice?
Guard your children's souls! Keep them home. Remember that your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour!!! Don't let that "someone" be your kid.

1. Why do you homeschool?

I began homeschooling simply because it did not seem right sending my children away from me for several hours every single day, to be with people who I did not know. Even though it (public school) was all I knew, something seemed so wrong. THEN one person in our church began homeschooling, and I said "Wow, you can do that?" The other seemed wrong -- this seemed right. It took a while for me to get there, but that became my desire -- my goal. Finally I began, and have been homeschooling now since 1987. Now I homeschool for that first, original reason and many more. Benefits I didn't weigh in originally. All I knew was that they were supposed to be with me. Like, I don't have to teach to the test! My children have time to explore what they love (photography and music for my recent graduate, video editing and guitar for my upcoming grad.). I can give God's Word the priority it deserves, and teach Creation Science, exposing the many myths in evolution. I can discuss what it going on in the Middle East with an understanding that the politically correct will not give our children. There are issues there that will simply never be discussed in public school. In public school, my children's time would be wasted learning an untrue science, a rewritten history, and a whole lot of extra stuff that I would not approve of (relational ethics, sex ed., etc.) With homeschool I get to avoid ALL THAT, plus BE WITH MY CHILDREN!! Just how God intended. He created the family, not the public school. That was an idea that came from man. A bad one, in my opinion.


2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?

Yes. I just graduated one. However, my first, I did put back into public school. I had little ones, and felt I couldn't do it. I regret that, and know that I could have. I was trying to mirror "school at home" and that didn't work. Ruth Beechick's "powerful, natural method" has saved my homeshcooling life. Graduating my oldest from public school had a negative impact on her life. She's fine now -- you can visit her at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/freescholar. She agrees, that her public school experience was much less than ideal. She is now homeschooling her oldest. So I will graduate the remainder of my children at home, for the reasons listed in #1 as to why I homeschool, and because I have 1graduated from each, and homeschooling comes out far ahead.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

God gave them to us to raise. The state is the state, it is not a parent. The state is terribly flawed in its ideology, values, everything. I like to call public school "government school." That's what it is, and calling it that keeps it in perspective. Keep them home. Give them your values, your ideology. Give them you. What you get back is -- them. Time with them -- children who are growing in YOUR values. No, it isn't always easy (but Ruth Beechick has made it much easier for me than it used to be). It is a sacrifice. Funny though -- what I used to think was important doesn't matter so much in the larger picture. Raising my children in Christ has definitely become my greatest joy. Jesus said "My meat is to do the will of the One Who sent me." I guess that is why I am so fulfilled in this role. Does this count as "One reason"? It was all one thought flow!

Aug. 17, 2006 - Why I Homeschool

Why do I homeschool? Well, I started homeschooling when my son was diagnosed with dyslexia and we moved to Singapore, which has a very intense school system, and I believed my son would struggle and his self-esteem would suffer. But NOW, I homeschool because I LOVE it!! I have learned so much from my children and about my children. I know their strengths and weaknesses, academically speaking. I can cater to their own unique learning styles, interests and gifts. I'm crazy about my kids and I love spending my days learning together with them.

Will I homeschool through graduation? People ask me this all the time. Here in Singapore, homeschooling is still relatively unfamiliar, (though it is spreading in popularity all the time!) and many people don't realize that you even can homeschool all the way through graduation. I will continue to homeschool all the way through. For one, I love it. Second, my kids are able to stretch their wings in their areas of interest and ability. For example, my 10-year-old daughter is so interested in ancient Egypt and archeology that she has devoured every single book in the library on the subject, and will happily watch any documentary on educational channels that she can find on the subject. At least here in Singapore, I don't know too many kids who have the time, with the rigorous academic programs of the school system, to indulge in such an interest, even though it is thoroughly educational. In fact, here in Singapore, kids don't even study history formally until secondary school!

People ask me about homeschooling here in Singapore all the time. As I said, there is a growing interest, as so many families are finding their children are stressed out by the sheer amount of work they have. They are pushed to learn things often before there is a physiological and mental readiness, and so often learn things by rote memorization with little or no understanding. Family time suffers as children have to go back to school even during the holidays for extra-curricular activities (which are compulsory here), remedial classes (given to all children at certain grades to ensure that they do their best in their Primary School Leaving Exam), tuition, etc. There are SO many reasons to homeschool, but as a Christian, I would give the primary and most important reason to parents that they have both the responsibility and the right to raise their children to know and love God. Keeping them at home allows parents the time necessary to have a stronger influence on their children's character development and value system. I believe God expects us as Christian parents to instill certain things within our children's lives and spirits, and the more time we have with them, and the less (negative) external influences they are exposed to, the better chance we have of raising kids who love God with all their hearts, minds, souls and bodies.

1. Why do you homeschool?
The simple and short answer is because God told us to. I could go on and list all the benefits from that but obedience to God always has blessings. The blessings of obeying God in calling us to homeschool are INCREDIBLE!!!! We are able to instill God's word in their hearts. We are able to build relationships with one another. We are able to spend an entire day focusing on heart issues, if that's where we need to be a whole day.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
Our desire is to obey God and, thus far, He hasn't called us to not homeschool. I can't imagine ever not homeschooling but God's wisdom is far above our own.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
Assuming God has called them to homeschool, the best reason is obedience to His call.

1. Why do you homeschool?
Because I love my children and I want them to have the best possible education, while they are first being trained up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord for the furtherence of His eternal kingdom and glory. There is no way all of that can happen in the governments educational institiutions.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
Absolutely! I have one in high school now. I wouldn't want to put all this effort into the early years and then throw them to the wolves, so to speak, just as they are becoming impressionable young adults. I want to make sure that the structure build on the foundation is equally as solid in their Christian lives.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
If the Lord calls us to do it -- why would we do anything else? Besides, if I can do it as a single mom (entering my 6th year) anyone can!

There are so many reasons why I homeschool (and I get more every time I talk to a mother with a child in preschool!), but probably the biggest one is that I want to give my children a fully integrated view of the world. I spent 8 years as an agnostic, in spite of my parents taking me to church every Sunday, and I think that was made much easier for me because denying what I heard on Sunday mornings didn't require reevaluating everything else I'd been taught -- I never heard about God in connection to history or science, and so rejecting God was only rejecting a small part of what I'd been taught. I want to teach my children that God is the center of everything, and give them such a God-centered view of history and science that wherever they look, they see the things that point them to God.

I plan to homeschool through graduation; it would take a very clear leading from God to convince me to do something else, especially because the high school years are really what get me excited -- my oldest child isn't quite 4 yet, but I still find myself looking at the high school sections of the curriculum catalogs. (I didn't look at the preschool sections until she was already 3!)

If I could only share one reason to homeschool, I think I would share the freedom -- the freedom to determine your own family schedule, the freedom to change things that aren't working at a moment's notice, the freedom to go on vacation in February, the freedom to enjoy your children, most of all the freedom to determine what the best things are for your family and pursue them wholeheartedly.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Yes, but I think I may have my husband do some of it...he will have gone through college and will know more.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be? Because like, I think Mr. Saurez said..It's not an option and because your kids will be so much more happier and will learn to live through learning at the same time.

1. I homeschool because I do not want my children exposed to the garbage presented in curriculums, by teachers with agendas, and by other students in the public schools. I do not want to be "reacting" to what they hear at school each day, but be the one teaching them proactively in a Christian Worldview.

2. I do intend to homeschool through high school. Because the public schools don't suddenly get better in high school. In fact, they're probably worse. I want my children to become leaders, not followers.

3. You should homeschool because these children are your treasures, and no one will treasure them like you will. No one else will care about how they learn as much as you will. No school will be able to give them the one-on-one tutorial style education you can give them. Besides, then you don't have to get up early to get them out the door on time.

1. Why do you homeschool?

There are so many reasons why I homeschool. First let me start by saying I always wanted to be a homemaker even when I was growing up. My father wanted me to be a lawyer or President but my heart just wasn’t in it. I remember him always telling me you have potential to be a great leader to make a difference in the world. I remember years later when he was expressing his disappointment at my decision for my life. I told him I have done exactly what he wanted of me. I am making a difference in the world. I’m raising his grandchildren with values, morals, and a sense of God and family. With a world that has turned its back on these things, it is more important today than ever to be active in our children’s lives. So this is the main reason I homeschool because of my family. The Lord has entrusted these precious gems to me, to raise. I believe to raise a child requires me being a fulltime mom and not sharing the responsibility with the government. I want my children to stand up for God and what is right.

I must confess that in the beginning I did not homeschool. I sent my oldest to public school in kindergarten and then again in 4th grade. Why you may ask? Well I thought at the time it was a viable option. I really did think I was doing the right thing for my kids. It turned out to be a huge mistake I wish I could undo. Why was it a mistake? Well when my kid came home and told me that his teacher said Santa was real and I was lying to him, that sent up a red flag. Then later when I went to discipline him for disobedience and he said, “if you do I’ll tell my teacher and have you arrested.” That was the last straw that is why I took him out of kindergarten. See these teaching were not what I wanted for my family. I did try the Christian school for 1st grade but the tuition was more than we could afford.

Then when he was in 4th grade I decided to put him in public school again because I was having some major health issues. I consider this a lapse in judgment, for some reason I thought they could handle it. For the short time they had him I saw drastic changes in my child. My child who loved to learn and chime in during a discussion was slowly starting to hate school. He was picking fights with his brother, father, and I. My child was slowly disappearing and some foreign creature was living in my house. That is when it dawned on me the horrible error I had made. I will never put my kids in public school again. It is not the right choice for my family.

See I want family unity, siblings that play together, family discussions on topics with each person being heard. Mostly I want to be the person that sees the moment when they finally get it. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, when you see the light come on. I want my husband and I to be the major influences in our children’s lives. I want them to know God and His awesomeness. I want them to know why we have Christmas and other holidays. I want my children to be drenched in truth not political correctness. I want a family that loves each other and enjoys being together. The greatest reason of all is because I love my children and I want the best for them.

Absolutely, for the reasons given to answer question 1


3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

Remember the excitement you had when your child cut his first tooth, took his first step, said his first word. Why should that stop just because they turn 5? As a mom don’t you want to see all their first? Like the first time they read a book. There is nothing greater than seeing a first!

why do I homeschool - I always wanted to be a homeschooler, but God spoke to me very specifically that I was to homeschool. We know that God is calling us to live in Asia, and many other countries, and that I was to set up a family hub that would always stay the same for my children. Homeschool is a major part of that. Where ever we go, and no matter how often we move, our family system will always stay the same.

Will I homeschool till graduation - I have no idea. I would like to and think it would be one of the most amazing accommplishments of my life. What I tell those who ask me is I have no idea, but I sure am glad God knows!!!

If I had to give someone one reason to homeschool - I could list off a million and two excellent reasons, but for me it all boils down to hearing what God has to say to each family. He is the one who created my children, and he is the one who knows what they need for this life. I would want any and everyone to follow his advice, not mine.

This is my fourth year homeschooling and I can still say that we believe that God has called us to homeschool our children And so I would say that we homeschool mostly because we want to be obedient to God in all things. Also I love the relationships I have with my son and daughter and believe that it takes more than a couple of hours at the end of a stressed out day at public school to foster these kinds of relationships. I love learning and sharing what I have learned with my family. Also being able to take spur of the moment vacations...Uh, I mean field trips is a real bonus too!

We do plan on homeschooling through graduation, I believe our kids need to be homeschooled most at that critical time in their lives when they are really choosing who they will serve God or man. I like that they can make these life choices on their own and in their own time instead of when the rest of the group is doing it. It would take God changing our plans for us to ever stop homeschooling. Again, the obedience thing comes into play here.

If I had a friend who was considering homeschooling the best reason I could give them to start would be that God meets a homeschool family in such a special and unique way. It isn't the same experience for everyone, but it is the perfect experience for each family that is being guided by the Lord. Pray and really seek God with your husband and he will guide your homeschool to be the "perfect" place to bring about his plans for you and your family.

1. Why do you homeschool?

At first the answer to why homeschool was a combination of necessity and desire to give our daughter more than what the school could provide. The answer has now morphed into, we homeschool because it honors God, our family and our community. I can find no other way to be a good steward of this world than to raise my own children.


2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?

Although the thought of homeschooling through high school seems scary right now, we're in our first year, it is exciting to think of all the discoveries and growth that we'd be witness to. Faith is how we'll get through and if we need to use outside resources, we will.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

I've found that you cannot convince anyone to homeschool but you can plant the seed. I always try to plant awareness. If you get the parent thinking about all the influences their child is exposed to at school, the good and the bad, maybe they might do something about it. The most important convincing tool is your family's enthusiasm for homeschooling. A few catalogs never hurt either!

1. Why do you homeschool? How much time do you have??
**We started out homeschooling because of safety for our children, as there had been a shooting in the middle school where we lived in NM. As we have grown and matured in our homeschooling goals and the desires of our hearts (and especially the Lord), we homeschool as an act of submission to Our Lord.
**I know someday I will give an accounting of and be held accountable for these gifts God has bestowed on me. I felt at the time our oldest was 3, that I would be sending our children to the wolves, if we sent them to the pss.
**As our family has grown and matured, I have seen that no one else is qualified to train our children. If they were, God wouldn't have put them in our family. The church, the public schools, the Y - no one is able to train them up as the Lord desires - He gave them to us to train up.
**Only we can educate them in the Biblical, curricular, social, etc. because it is God's Plan for our lives. The pss has to constantly defend itself for the children they ruin socially, ethically, etc. I do not want my children to be another ps statistic.
**We have already seen some of the trials/temptations children are faced with in the presence of their Christian peers. Why send them into a haven of secular, sinful teaching and children who are sadly, but intentionally trained in unrighteousness?
**I love having my children home. I know who they are; they know who I am (though that isn't always a good thing!!) I would not have that opportunity if they were away at public OR private school and all the activities they suck you into.
**Life is too short not to stay home, live simply and love God. You cannot do that properly if you are serving the world and its expectations of your family!

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
**Yes, we are doing that. I will be posting Reasons To Homeschool During the High School Years today, and that will cover it.
**Other than that, see question #1, above.
**I don't think the reasons to homeschool or not change with age. We desire our children to follow the Lord all the days of their lives, not just through 8th grade, then pick it up again when they turn 18.
(*Haven't we, the Body, figured that out yet, with all of the statistics of children who leave their faith when they turn 18?)

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
**Because the Lord gave those children to them to train, and He is sufficient in all things. Besides, He already said that in His WORD!

1. Why do you homeschool?

Too many reasons to list, but mainly: ability to account for readiness, talents, skills, and interest in educating our children; flexibility; control of curriculum; fun. People are sometimes surprised that I don't say "led by God" right off. We have never felt particularly, specifically led by God to homeschool, though we see our homeschool efforts blessed on a daily basis.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?

Hmmm... we will plan to, but: In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps (Proverbs 16:9); many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails (Proverbs 19:21).

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

Our years with our children are short; do you really want to send them away to spend most of their time under someone else's authority, bonding with their age/peer group instead of their family, and learning what (and when) someone who doesn't know your child dictates?

We don’t want our children to graduate. “Graduate” insinuates completion, a finality. The only time we should be finished learning (as we are capable in earthly bodies) is when we die. Their graduation ceremony will be when our Father welcomes them into Heaven. Now THAT'S Graduation!

1) Why do we homeschool?
God gently tugged us in this direction before our children were even school-aged, first after observing the beautifully matured homeschoolers in our community and church, and second after praying and researching our options there just seemed no better way! My husband wasn't so sure, but Christian radio eventually convinced him. He came home one day, knowing how I felt, and stated, "We're homeschooling!" (yes, dear!!)
2) Homeschooling through high school?
We decided if we took the leap, we were in for the long haul. The only possible benefit our kids would get from p. school is sports, and we'll surely find/form a homeschool co-op/team to fill that need when it arises.
3) A reason you'd give when recommending homeschooling to a friend?
So many...but my biggest is that my children are each other's best friends. I've seen so many family members and friends whose children constantly bicker, and the few that did love their siblings soon learned on the school bus that it was "uncool" to hang out with family members. Heart-breaking. My girls truly love each other. And they have all the time in the world to develop that friendship!

Graduation? You mean there's an end to this? Oh no, why didn't anyone ever tell me?.

In genereal I don't try to convince people to homeschool, I believe that if someone can talk you into homeschooling, someone else can talk you out of it. But if pressed, I guess I would say that there isn't a good reason to start. Because you already have. I just turn the question back around, and ask; why do you want to stop and let someone else take over just because they're five.

It's a natural extension of what I've been doing with my daughters ever since they were born. I want them to develop their love of learning and not to associate it with a building or a fixed period of time.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
My older daughter is only 5, and we are only beginning our homeschool journey. Much could happen before she graduates, but our plan is to continually evaluate our homeschooling efforts and do what we believe is right for each child. If at some point God calls us to consider a private or public school, then we will follow His leading.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
All parents can get involved in their children's education and homeschool to some extent, even those who already have kids in traditional schools. Take a field trip, read a book together, or explore a topic of interest with your child and see where it leads.

I started homeschooling for the love of it. I did not see any advantage to sending them to school. Ever. Like in the days of old my children have a rich man's education. One on one teaching. We also wanted to keep them away from the many negative influences there are in school. Little minds don't need to see and hear most of what goes on in public schools.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?

Absolutely! Like teaching them to read it sounds more intimidating then it really is. Now is the time you really get to see the fruit of all your labors. Why miss that?

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

Do not think that you are incapable. There are materials out there that will help you overcome any deficiencies you feel you might have. With the Lord's help you can do it!

I love having my children around. I want them know how to grow in their relationship with Christ. I also want them to have an excellent education and have time to explore subjects that interest them.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
I cannot foretell the future, but at this time I can't see why I would not continue my children's education through graduation. I love seeing them grow in knowledge each year and being a part of that part of their lives. During the high school years they will have more time to pursue a career or explore subjects of interest to them. They may have the opportunity to finish high school early if they choose.

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?
Homeschooling allows me to get to know my children better and help them succeed in schoolwork at their pace.

1.Why do I homeschool?

I homeschool because I want my children to have the best education possible. I 'm not conceited enough to think I am the best teacher around. (Although, if someone else said it I wouldn't argue!) The real issue is my definition of what the “best education possible” looks like.

I hold to the idea that for a child to reach his/her full potential the curriculum must be individualized. Kids learn at different rates and any given child may be at a variety of levels depending on the subject. Learners need to be actively engaged in the lessons for optimal learning to take place. With each person having a unique combination of learning styles and personality this will mean different activities to engage different children.

Every teacher presents the material of his/her lessons through the lens of a worldview. A good Christian education looks at all subjects with and helps the student to develop a Biblical worldview.

I believe that I am the person and our family is the institution that is best suited to accomplish these goals. I know my children better than anyone and care about them more than anyone. I am responsible to disciple them, and that requires time with them.

2.Will I homeschool through graduation?

I sure hope so! Things have gone well so far. My conviction that this is right for our family has only grown since we started. I can't imagine turning this job over to someone else. However, only God knows the future and officially we are taking this one year at a time. (I guess I ought to say one day at a time - so hard to let go!)

3.If I had a friend who was considering homeschooling and I could only give them ONE reason to start what would it be?

This could be the best thing you've ever done for your family, but if you don't give it a try you will never know. You've got nothing to loose and everything to gain!

1. Why do you homeschool?

Homeschooling provides for integrated continuous learning. In High School I wrote an essay as part of a scholarship application. In it I discussed the importance of continuous learning. I said I would continue to learn every day, even when I left the formal school system. And I have learned something new every day (and I did get the full scholarship to the university of my choice). I was able to see the importance of continuous learning, but not every child will. By educating our children at home, I hope to help them see that learning and education is something that should happen continuously, not just in a formal setting. So what do I mean by "integrated". I mean that all our family activities are part of our learning. And it means that I as a father must be on my toes all the time, not just handing the teaching activities off to the State. In a similar vein, our spiritual life is integrated throughout the day, and is not just something we do on Sunday or something we do as a course.


2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?

We are called by God to educate our children at home. I can't see that changing, but I trust if God ever did want this to change He would find a way to make it clear to us.


3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

I would simply show them my children. They are not perfect, and my wife and myself are not perfect, but I think my children are an excellent testimony to the power of homeschooling to bless children as individuals and to bless us collectively as a family. I hope in the years to come people will see how my children can also bless their church and community.

1. Why do you homeschool?
There are so many elloquent and fabulous reasons to homeschool, but for me it boils down to the fact that I'm Jealous! It is said that God is a jealous God, He wants us to focus on Him and not others. Well, with my kids I feel the same, not me above God, but my influence over peers or other teachers. I'm jealous of their time. I don't think that I'm the best teacher, but I do believe that I am the best teacher for MY kids. God has given them to me to raise and train and I'm trying my best.

2. Will you homeschool your children through graduation? Why/why not?
Yes! Hopefully my teaching skills and confidence level will improve by then but I have every intention of going as far with their education as possible!

3. If you had a friend considering homeschooling, and you could only give them ONE good reason to start, what would that be?

Every homeschool family that I know has a quality that I totally admire. The siblings are FRIENDS! Not just brothers and sisters who tolerate one another but truly get along. Spending time at home they are their peers and what could be better than to have lifelong friends like that???

Why? Because God said so. I saw my friend's HS kids and wanted my kids to be kind, loving, and genuine too. God equips those that ask Him.
High School? If schools are like mine were in 1987 YES I will homeschool them forever! With girls wearing nothing and boys wearing pants to their knees like refrigerator repairmen plus piercings and tattoos! Ican't imagine dropping my kids into that environment. That is like taking my kids to a zoo and leaving them to fend for themselves for 30 hours/week.
A friend asking? If you are asking then God is tugging on your heart. He will give you your heart's desire, and your kids' hearts and give it abundantly. Jeri

I know the contest over but here is my two cents.
1. Many reasons but first and foremost because I believe that God says so in his word. It's there, really.

2. Yes I will homeschool to the end. I used to say to people I will take it year at a time but God convicted me and said if you want a good testimony you need to be convinced that you will stick it out for the long haul. That is what he wants me to do. Also, after listening ot Brian Ray this weekend at the OCEAnetwork conference in Oregon ( will you come next year?) that homeschooling is the natural default in educating our kids. I could never send them to institutionalized school.

3. Do it because it is without a doubt the best thing you can do for your kids. Period.
