A Little News - And A Little Gift for Helping

This year's Father's Day is all the more special to TOS Publisher, Paul Suarez. You see, he's expecting a new little Suarez. And it's this week that we're finally "unwrapping" the news to our friends - You. Gena is due December 15th and all six Suarez members are falling over with excitement and thankfulness to the LORD, kind Giver of all gifts. This makes number five and he or she is a "far fifth" - you see, Julia, the youngest Suarez, will be 11 years old when Baby Suarez is born (and is she ever ready!). Eldest Suarez child, Paulie, will be just shy of turning 18. Doesn't matter. The whole family is beside themselves with joy! Especially Dad. This new, precious "little guy" as we call him/her already, is an answer to much prayer.

Now here's where your gift comes in. TOS Magazine's Summer issue is getting ready to go to press and we have an important goal. We want to end our "19 Gifts" campaign this season as soon as possible. We only have about 1,700-1,800 "19 Gifts Packages" left and we really want them gone. Our thought was that if folks knew exactly what they were getting along with their two-year subscription (about $275 worth of educational goodies), they'd jump on board fast. Once the gifts are gone, they're totally gone. New subscribers AND renewing subscribers are welcome to buy the package. Subscription not over yet? No matter - we'll tack on your remaining issues to your new two-year sub. Anyway... I read Paulie's entry, and I must say how happy - I mean overjoyed - I am for you. I remember wondering what Amanda was going to say when I found out I was expecting Luc. You know, she had said she didn't want to do the "Father of the Bride" thing! lol.
She got me the cutest card saying how excited and happy she was. I just cried. And cried.
You and Paul are so blessed to have Paulie, Lukey, Levi and Julia!! They will be fighting over who gets to hold the new Little One. Hallelujah! Of course, I think Paul is the one you all are going to have to fight to hold the Baby!
I can't wait for you to have this Little One, and many more!

Whooo-Hoooo!!!!! I told dh several weeks ago that something was up and and I thought you might be expecting!! And when I kinda questioned the craving thing with the bananas you totally ignored my comment which just convinced me all the more!! LOL! Normally you would have shot me down in flames! We are head over heels excited for you and will continue to pray for Gena especially. I guess this would be just one more reason that we should come stateside again this Christmas! Congrats again!!!

All this craving talk was making it hard to stay quiet -- tired of biting my tongue (or should I say fingers).

Bethany (my oldest) was 12 when my Rebecca was born. I have 22 years between my oldest and youngest, and a few gaps - 12 years as mentioned above, then after Rebecca and Ricky there were 6 years, then Robbie and Isaac. Two years after Isaac was born came Addie, and now I'm up to 3 grandchildren. So it kind of never stopped. Love it.

There will be no loss of love on this baby I'm sure. Biggest problem will be the fighting over whose turn it is to hold and cuddle.

Praise the Lord! I am so happy for you! I honestly considered jumping up and down in my excitement, but as I'm due myself (11/8/07) I decided against it. :)

My parents had my brothers 4, 8&10 years after me, and I always wished they would have kept going. Each of my siblings added so much to my life; I very nearly grew up with only one brother instead of three!

Hi Gena!

I rejoice with you over your new little one! I wonder if you are like me, and your blood pressure goes up everytime you go to the doctor. Even with 8 babies, mine would go up oftentimes, and I would tell them that I monitor it at home and it would be mostly fine. As I have aged at little (I am 44), I have found that especially under stress, my blood pressure will go up some because I think I internalize stress. Anyway, I have never had toxemia or anything. But here are some things you can do to help:
1. Make sure you are taking a QUALITY pre-natal supplement.
2. Make sure you are getting atleast 1000mgs of calcium daily, and try also to make sure you are getting extra magnesium (many times in the calcium supplement), and yes, eating bananas and peanut butter as a bedtime snack worked well for me to get the extra potassium and some protein. (You need good protein to ward off toxemia also)
3. I drink a pregnancy tea which is a combination of red raspberry leaf, alfalfa, oatstraw and stinging nettles. This helps prepare for delivery, adds valuable absorbable minerals for your muscles, bones and circulatory system, as well as the baby's, and is relaxing. 4. Eat celery. No kidding, it brings your blood pressure down. I learned about this from a doctor. I would eat some throughout the day, and always before I went to the doctor. I would expect my bp to be 150/78, and most of the time it would be 120/70 or 120/60 and they would say, "that's really good for you!" Celery does contain sodium, which some people need to limit, but it never bothered me.
5. Make sure you drink a lot of fluids to keep flushing your system, and the pregnancy tea helps as it acts like a tonic.
6. Walk and wear support hose if you get varicose veins. This really helped me, too. Walking 30 minutes helps so much if you can do it every day or atleast 5 days a week. This will also help keep the bp down. (Before we moved to the country, I used to simply walks laps around our house and yard at night when I couldn't walk with a friend.)

I am sure you are getting a lot of unsolicited advice from everybody and her sister, but I could identify with the blood pressure concern, and thought I would share with you what I have done that seemed to help, (along with a lot of prayer and grace and mercy from God!)

No, really, I am looking up what I can about hi-pb. I love what Chris Read said about everything. You can also get the Red Raspberry leaf in capsules from Nature's Sunshine. My midwife told me every woman should be taking these, as they are important for good uterine health.
I don't have any info on the hi-bp, because my bp was usually like 100 over 60 when I was pregnant.
Low stress... take your B's. Take a good one, not just what you get otc at wally-world. Above Rubies had a great article about being acidic or alkaline.Rachel posted about it in the homesteading carnival this week.

I know, I know! We are with Jane Bullivant here in PA. She is SO neat (she wrote the Skydiving for Parents book and Dear Lord I Feel Like a Whale). Flew in from England Wed. Last night we all went to dinner at this very cool looking pub...reminded me of when I lived in England. Very Euro looking...but their menu was limited. I didn't want ROAST DUCK (gross - Paul had that). Nor did I want nasty terrigan chicken (Jane got that). So I thru caution to the wind and got the stuffed porch chop. SICK-O city. You'll be pleased to know however I only ate about three bites of it. Still - sick as a dead dog after that. Feel better this morning....off to see Jane in a bit. I speak at 1pm Eastern today so pray for me ok?

I just got that, out to dinner with my husband the other night. At the Buffalo Head Restaurant. Very large portions - we brought it home and it lasted me two more days.

High blood pressure - are you staying hydrated? Lots of water. In the book "The Body's Many Cries For Water" high blood pressure was one of the symptoms that many people saw disappear just with drinking enough water.

Disclosure: I am the co-publisher of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. All content on my blog, however, is made up of my own opinions and the Home Where They Belong team. The team and I are never paid to blog something for a company or individual with a message they wish to get out in one of our posts. Even my "pick of the week" section is simply a "show and tell" area in the blog which allows me to share resources I come across. Some however, are items included in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine's online shopping cart, which profits the company and specifically, myself.
