What Secrets Are Students Keeping From Their Parents?

The freshmen class at Deerfield High School were told to sign a paper saying they wouldn't tell their parents of the gay indoctrination seminar they were about to attend.  This isn't the first school to ask its students to do this.  Why would the school ask students to sign a paper that isn't legally binding and keeps secrets from the student's parents? 

The seminar is horrific enough, but to ask students to keep something from their parents is proof once more that public schools are not interested in the family.  I have my own theories as to why the students were asked to sign the paper.

Nov. 6, 2007 - What do single Parents do?

What do single Parents do? I am single not by choice but because my husband cheated and ran off. I have three girls. They are in a public school and I have had none of the problems you say are there. As you said it starts with the parents. I am very involved in my children's educations. They know what is right and what is wrong. Parent's who have good realtionships with their children dont have to worry about it because those children will come home and tell. I have to work to provide for my family. I refuse to live off the govt or go on welfare, when its my responsibility to teach my children. If I am teaching them correctly at home and keeping the grounded in church, then its in their hearts and their heads, they have the foundation that they need. Yes things will come up and things will test that faith. But they also need the chance to fail and the chance to know that God is always there for them. I grew up in a public school. I had a great church where they were looking out for me and I graduated from Bible College and God is always there for me. God is in everything. He will be there with your kids in a public school also. My God can move mountains. He can also take care of public school systems. My kids are a witness there. That is what we are supose to do witness to others. Cant do that at home or in a church school. Those are good, but they are also sheltered.

not sure where it says in Scripture that our children, who are still impressionable and young in Christ, are to be expected to lead other young and impressionable children in what is right while they are at school also just trying to learn how to write an essay and do pre-algebra.
this is way too big of a burden to place on young shoulders.
my oldest son attended public school in kindergarten and again for six months in grade four. he evangelized his little heart out, and also cried the same heart out most nights because of all the cruel and callous things the other kids, some of whom went to church themselves, said to him.
a seasoned woman once called me, out of the blue, to encourage me to continue homeschooling my boys as long as I am able. she quoted the passage in 2 Kings 4, where the illustration is about elisha's men being literally poisoned by the food in the pot. she made an analogy regarding our children in the public school's being fed "death in the pot".
initially I thought she was going a little over-board.
I no longer think that, having sent my boys there ...

I am very happy to hear that you are raising your children to live for Christ and that they know right from wrong. However that does not mean they will never choose to do something wrong and if it happens at public school and your child knows it's wrong how likely is it that you will find out? How long will they continue doing wrong? What if they know you believe it to be wrong but the other students or teacher has convinced them that it is not wrong? Your relationship with your children is very important but will do you little good if they are divided among loyalty to home and school.

We are not saying that no Christian children make it out of the public schools remaining Christians. Statistics show that the odds are against them though. Public schools are ten times worse then they were when I was in them.

Here on Home Where They Belong we point out many problems of the public schools. I'm not sure how long you have been reading this blog so I don't know if you are aware of the myriad of problems found in the public school system. Not all problems happen in all schools but how do you know what is happening? Schools are not obligated to tell you about any of the crime that takes place, what they teach children, or how it is taught.

It may be that this year your children are in good classrooms. There are some wonderful teachers out there. Next year could be something very different.

I'm also not saying that God can't take care of the public school system, I just don't believe that He will. He cares about the children who are in the schools but He isn't going to save the system itself unless it turns around and recognizes Him. That isn't going to happen. (I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt I am.)

What will you do if ever faced with the situation in the above post? Will it bother you that the school is wanting your child to keep secrets from you? Your child may tell you about the indoctrination but the only way you can remove your child from it is to remove your child from the school. These aren't just nice little convesations about homosexuality, they are graphic, blatant, and disgusting. They encourage the students to explore homosexuality. Having your child tell you that they had to attend such an indoctrination will be to late. Their mind will be full of what they have seen and heard and it will not go away. (Again, it doesn't mean they will act on it, but the images will always be there.)

Do you really want to wait until the problems happen?

Nov. 6, 2007 - Home Schooling.

First my question wasn't answered. Second, this blog makes us good single Christian parents feel as if we are wrong because our children are in a public school. God did not open the doors for my children to go to Christian school or be home schooled. He did open the doors for them to go to a wonderful public school outside of their district. I prayed long and hard about it. And yes children as adults are told to tell others about Jesus and their faith. I find it sad that you would say its not their place to be doing that. Its because my children have made their faith known and myself that the principle knows they are Christians and treats them with respect. Also not all and if you do poll public schools are as bad as people make them out to be. The public school my children are in have 4 churches that are listed as corporate sponsors. The members come in and Volunteer. The pastor speaks at assemblies and so forth. Also there is prayer and the pledge to the American flag during assemblies and first thing in the morning. This is a public school in NC. I grew up in VA. Va schools do the same thing. Not once have my children been talked to about homosexuality in school. One reason is because the American Defense fund.(great work for God) is taking back our rights in or schools. They have went to the supreme court and schools are realizing that Christians dont lose their rights at the doors of the school. Plus there are only a few schools in states such as MA, where parents do not have the rights to know what there children are learning. In our schools, parents are the first to know. I have checked the libraries for the homosexuality books they arent there. I have also never had my kids taught Evolution at school. I applaud you that you teach your kids at home. But its wrong to make the parents who cant feel like they are not in God's will because they do. What about the Christian teachers who are in public schools? I have at least 15 friends I graduated from College with that are teaching in Public school, they know that is where God led them and they are making a big difference. We need to reach public school kids, we cant do that if we seperate ourselves from them completely.

Not trying to argue. But the book on the link Public Schools, Public menace: It states how the schools are taking away America from our children. That is another thing that gets me. Of every school my children have been in 3 to be exact because of moving. All three have been very patriotic. As a matter of fact my children are participating in the Veteran's day Program on Friday the 9th. There will be Veteran's there and the children whole school will be singing the songs for each military branch, my daughter is singing Heroes. That book is in accurate. If it stated which public schools are doing this in which states that would be different. But the only two states that are having big issues right now with public schools are MA, and California. But Parents are standing up in both of those states and taking back their schools. Which they should. Just a thought.

You asked one question, "What do single Parents do?" I answered, "...single parents can and do homeschool." I then gave a link to a resource to read about some of these single parent families.

Onfire's comment was not that children should not share their faith, it was that they should not be left alone to the wolves to share it. In the Bible it was adults who were sent out to spread the gospel and they went in pairs.

The schools your children are attending are rare, not the norm. Homeschoolers who have had experience with public schools all over the U.S. including those in VA and NC have plenty of bad public school stories to share.

Home Where They Belong's main complaint is about the Public School SYSTEM, not individual schools although we do name those that need to be pointed out. The system is not for Christianity, the system has flat out said that children in public school belong to them and not the parents.

I also did not say that the parents rights to know what their children is learning was taken away. I said that the school does not have an obligation to tell parents that information. Most parents don't ask!

We too applaud Christian teachers. Their jobs are hard, especially those in schools that are against everything they stand for. Teachers and children are two totally different things. Many Christian public school teachers have left the public school because of the adversity to their faith and not being allowed to share their faith, at all, period.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that homeschooled children are sheltered and do not share their faith at all. Many serve in soup kitchens, Meals on Wheels, speak about abstinence in public schools, teach younger children, have jobs at all sorts of businesses, and play sports on county leagues and public school teams.

We feel that homeschooling is the best option and that as Christians God calls us to teach our own children. That is why we blog about what is taking place in a godless system.

In your next comment you state that Public Schools Public Menace declares schools to be anti-American and assume that means schools don't teach about patriotism. If you read the book and read it clearly, because your comment has shown you haven't read my previous comment clearly, you would understand what is meant by anti-American. You also want the book to point out which states are doing this but don't back up your own statement about only two states having problems. I beg to differ, every state is having problems. Granted some more then others. This entire blog can prove that. For that matter so can most of the 10,000 blogs here at HSB.

I hope you'll keep reading this blog. We do care about the children in public schools. If we didn't we wouldn't be doing what we do.
