The Da Vinci Code has become an international hit because of the lurid prose and its sensationalistic - even blasphemous - claims regarding the "true" history of Christianity.  Millions of people, who are not experts in history, art, theology, or archeology, are being led astray by the Da Vinci Code's fraudulent assertions and invented history.    The Da Vinci Deception by Mark Shea answers 100 questions about the facts and fiction of the Da Vinci Code.   Shea writes, "The Da Vinci Code draws all readers, even devout Christians, emotionally and intellectually into many levels of conspiracy theories in a way that is unhealthy.  Many die-hard, believing Christians who have read the novel have commented on how disturbing many of the book's ideas are and how, once those ideas were planted in the minds, their faith was shaken."

   Blogging friend, Maureen Wittman cites another resource to help Christians sort fact from fiction.  She writes, "With the upcoming Da Vinci Code movie this is an important title [De-Coding Mary Magdalene] to get into public libraries."

   The movie's trailer depicts Tom Hanks as a believable hero uncovering the historical mystery of the Holy Grail.  Hollywood believes, under the direction of Ron Howard, it's a blockbuster.  Christians need to arm themselves with facts, as this movie will surely be the topic at every water cooler and many future blog sites.

You are so right that Christians must prepare themselves for this attack on our faith; and, it is an attack, if you have ever heard the author speak out against Christianity. It still shocks me when fellow Christians ask me about Jesus' wife !!! And, if you watch Discovery or TLC on Sunday evenings, you are likely to view just this sort of psuedo-scholarly garbage passed off as gospel truth. Yikes! Thanks again for the reminder!

My response: The population at risk? The marginal believer, the ignorant believer, the ambivalent believer, the illiterate believer.........that's about 75% of Christains at risk!

Thanks for stopping by my site. I truly believe that this is "The Great Lie" or a major component of it. I appreciate Mike's comment with regard to just how many people will receive this "strong delusion" as fact. It's hard to believe that anybody, let alone a Christian, could so easily buy into this - but I'm afraid it will be so - and I believe Th Bible tells us as much in 2Th 2:11:

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

and Mat 24:24:

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

I hope that the efforts of people like yourself will help to bring to light the issue and help those who truly seek the truth.

This was mentioned in our Youth group consisting of over 130 teens. Our pastor feels strongly enough about getting the word out that the entire next month will be spent on understanding the truths and explain how this book/movie is out to confuse and divide. We believe it is truly Satan's attack in response to The Passion of Christ.
Hold on...we are all in for a battle!

Using Technorati tags I found 87 links to The DaVinci Code under "Currently Reading" blog entries. Scanning all 87 blogs, I estimate 80% of the people reading this book are young people from My Space blogs. Talk about impressionable minds! Do they even know the difference between fiction and non-fiction? Even if they understand the book is fiction, Brown asserts so many blatent falsehoods as FACT....this book is forming "truth" in our next generation! Scary.
