Smart Habit Saturday

Posted in Clean Heart Clean Home Challenge

Habits I'm working on have been motivated by our decision to move to another home.   First, I'd like to start and end the day with empty countertops and a clean sink.  There's something very un-motivating about starting a day with a sink full of dishes or countertops with messy  reminders of yesterday.   Second, I need to concentrate on selling/giving away  the homeschool books we are done using.   I don't need to move ALL these books.  Lastly,  until we sell this house, I need to make daily morning time in the flower garden, watering and weeding.  I love doing this in the spring, but hate it in the heat of the summer.  I don't think dead flowers are a selling point!  What habits are YOU working on?

I'm a stickler for a clean sink and clean counter tops too. It makes our homeschooling day seem farther behind schedule if we have to clean up yesterday's mess first! Good luck with your habits!

My kitchen has never been cleaner since my oldest started doing the dishes every day. Don't you have a few kids that could do it for you!

Thanks for joining us and good luck with all your habits! I don't envy your moving. We did that a year ago and the memory still haunts me!

May. 19, 2007 - Kids' Jobs

Posted by TRINITYPREPSCHOOL

The rotating jobs for kids at our house are
(2 each/day):

one load of wash,
empty garbage,
empty burnables,
load dishwasher,
empty dishwasher, and
clear and wipe down countertops.

Though they do that throughout the day, I am the last one to bed and the first one up. Between dinner and bedtime things begin to re-accumulate. The kids go from swim practice (4 nights/week) almost directly to bed. So it's dh's STUFF, pots/pans and any night-walker glasses I want to be in the habit of taking care of before the kids are even up..

I love waking up to clean countertops and an empty sink. I'm sure you're going to feel more motivated afterwards! Good luck this week!

I've got the same habit going and my day does start out a lot nicer when I don't have dishes just waiting for me and counters to clean. I even started sweeping the floor each night. And if I can offer you a few tips before you move {as a person who just did}. I'm sure this isn't your first move but sometimes we forget things when we don't do it regularly. Anyway, I suggest setting goals for yourself for packing - like so many boxes a day/week/whatever works for you. Also, I saw that you want to get rid of old homeschool books - that's great. Get rid of anything that you don't use/wear/display/whatever on a somewhat regular basis. Unpacking is a lot less frustrating when you're not tossing one box for every four that you open, that you just moved.

Good luck this week!

I really need to make some new habits and one a week seems so doable! And yes it really stinks waking up to a dirty kitchen/counters! I think that is an excellent one to start with!
