We just use regular moms to teach our co-op to keep costs down. We just share supply costs. Isn't it expensive to staff your co-op with experts?

Jul. 26, 2007 - Staffing a Co-op: Answer to Your Question

Jenn,
Two of the experts ARE homeschool moms! But for all the teachers it is nearly volunteer work, depending on the size of the class.
Each student pays $20/class for a 12 week semester. That's quite a deal for the student/parent. And if a teacher has 12 kids in the class she has $240 in tuition money for teaching the 12 classes. Teachers may also charge a supply or copy fee (~$5/semester).
I think with this fee structure everyone wins. The magazine editor who is NOT a homeschool mom is passionate about her work, and considers it "giving back" to the community....it's also good PR for the magazine.
Thanks for asking!
Maureen
PS In the first co-op I started, each mom had teaching responsibilities.....but as time went on, and the kids got older....paying looked like an attractive option for some moms and getting paid looked like an attractive option for others. We're lucky to have the right mix.
I just heard we have over 100 kids signed up so far for the classes which begin in September. We're offering 20 classes....this is our 2nd year using this tuition-based format.
