Boys To Men: Life Skills

Posted in Family

According to this month's edition of my thirteen year old son's  Popular Mechanics  magazine, these are the "25 Skills Every Man Should Know":

Patch a radiator hose

Protect his computer (firewall and virus security)

Rescue a boater who has capsized

Frame a wall

Retouch digital photos

Build a campfire

Fix a dead outlet

Navigate with a compass and map

Use a torque wrench

Sharpen a knife

Perform CPR

Fillet a fish

Maneuver a car out of a skid

Get a car unstuck

Back up data on a computer

Paint a room

Mix concrete

Clean a bolt action rifle

Change oil and filter

Hook up an HDTV

Bleed brakes

Paddle a canoe

Fix a bike flat

Extend his wireless network

Hmmm....I found this an interesting list.  I'm not sure I agree with everything on list as the top 25 skills.  I'd rather have a husband or son who could do some simple plumbing before cleaning a bolt action rifle.    Maybe the HDTV people paid to have this skill included on the Top 25 list....one would have to buy an HDTV to learn how to hook one up!   I think my husband has a lot of work ahead of him as a mentor to my two young teen sons.   What skills would be on YOUR list?
