Just For A Season

Posted in Faith and Formation

The web cloud has become a new form of art; a summary of words scattered throughout my blog....a quick glance at what I do with my time and where I place my priorities.   It is a computer-generated, random selection of references throughout my website.   A few absent key words?  Salary, promotion,  401K and career advancement!  They ring vaguely familiar from my past life, but were purposefully neglected 12 years ago.

I will soon be attending my 30 year class reunion.  Feminist acquaintances  from the 70's will shudder when I answer the standard questions about my career.  Yes, I left my profession 12 years ago.  No,  I don't get paid for my current work.  No, I have little hope of career advancement or a promotion over the next 10 years.  No,  my 401K account is NOT going through the roof.   I can claim my salary has doubled since last year though!  [0 x 2=0]

But of these things I'm sure.   This is a season to be treasured.   My children are investments which are growing in leaps and bounds.    I'm not worried about cutbacks or becoming obsolete.  I've replaced my career with a vocation I pursue with passion.  This is a season of no regrets or looking back.   The future is filled with optimism.  The "return on my investment" will remain for generations.  For this season, I claim my web cloud as it stands.

I love what you said about your children being your investment ... it's all so true. I find myself a little shy about running into people from college sometimes, for I hate the term "stay-at-home mum" ---- it doesn't say anything about what I do. But you're right. I never worry about my job being obsolete. And I'm going to say that I've tripled my salary. LOL

Great post. I had my 20th reunion two summers ago for high school. I got a few raised eyebrows (I had graduated in the top 10 of my class and attended William and Mary, but I also was pleased to find several of my friends were homeschooling and the support I got was great!
