Hi there. The Yearling takes place around the Pat's Island area on SR19 in the Ocala National Forest where I live. The trailhead is at the Silver Glen Springs entrance. It is a 6 mile hike to get to the springs and all the way around where the original people(the Long's) had their residence. This where the author visited as a young girl and first heard the story of the yearling as well as many others. You can swim in the springs which are always 72 degrees and picnic there also. We haven't been yet but we are looking forward to it. There are a ton of places to camp out here and they cost anywhere from $7-30 per night. We are not far from the Villages if you take CR 25 and HWY 314a out to the Forest. Hope that gives you some info. Let me know if you need more

I noticed you walked three miles....good for you! I probably need to put a tracker on mine so I would get up and get moving! ;)
