Another Educational Alternative

Posted in Mindless Meanderings

A  democratic school is the newest alternative to traditional school.   The press release reads: “Students follow their own inspiration, design their own curriculum; the staff helps them follow their own path.” Individual attention is stressed and because it is “learner-led,” all learning styles are honored. The theory is that since curiosity drives learning, learning comes much faster and, because staff members aren’t enforcing a curriculum, students are more receptive to it.  HHmmmm....sounds like they've been reading some homeschooling books to me!

Child-Free Moments

Posted in Mindless Meanderings

Is it acceptable for a stay-at-home mom to dream about child-free moments?   Why is it such blissful news when my dh announces he is taking the kids out for a few hours?   Recently, he proposed taking them to an overnight event.  It was all I could do not to break out in a happy dance!

Momentarily, I allowed myself to daydream about all the things I could accomplish without the distractions of having kids at home 24/7.   Sadly,  my initial list included pulling apart their closets and drawers to de-clutter.   Second temptation?  Reorganizing our sagging bookshelves so I can actually find the books I'm looking for.   Stripping and waxing the floor almost made the list, but I courageously rejected this option.

Once something visible was accomplished I moved to my secondary list.....reading a book cover to cover,   changing my blog template and graphics,   getting a pedicure,  meeting friends out for lunch AND dinner!

Do you long for child-free moments?

What would you do with YOUR time?

Are You Above or Below Average?

Posted in Mindless Meanderings

On average, new homeschoolers change their philosophies or curriculums seven times during their first two years.  I guess I was below average!

Are you above or below average?
