Getting ready for our next school year.

That is one of my favorite summer activities. I clean out our school cabinet and check our shelves and make a list of what we need for next school year. Thankfully, I do not have a lot on my list for the upcoming year. I am very excited about that. And I have several items that I am going to sell that will help off-set my cost. I just have to decide where I am going to list my items for sale.

The children like to look at the books they will be using next year while I am doing this, and they get excited again about school. We have a few things that we will be doing over the summer, but mostly we are just going to enjoy our summer off.

I will spend some time in July on planning. I like to plan out my unit study weeks, so I know what to be on the look-out for during the summer. It also makes my year go better to have a plan sheet ready ahead of time.

I haven't fully decided on when we will actually start back. Last year, we started the day after Labor Day. This year, we will have a new baby in the house, so a lot will depend on whether he sleeps good at night by Labor Day.

What do you do during the summer to get ready for the next school year?

Have a blessed day! Tami

Jun. 8, 2006 - what do I do?

Posted by Suzanne

panic!!! :-)

Seriously, I can't really answer this since we are just "finishing up" Kindergarten. I haven't a clue if our child learned "all she ever needed to know." We just used reading (me reading aloud) as our "schooling." but, we do that all the time anyway.

Guess I'm just rambling. oh well. Have fun going thru "stuff" and making decisions.

Oh, now I remember what I was gonna type. An acquaintance from church (whose children are both under 3 and who will most likely send to public school) asked me if I'd be interested in a book club... ladies getting together to discuss Christian fiction books. I told her with prepping for VBS and for homeschooling, I didn't know. She said something like, "but it's summer! You don't have to do that now." I said something like, "Do you think 'regular' teachers take the summer off?"

I need to get some rest. It's 2 a.m. I'll be glad when/if our children are able to sleep thru the night again. I think they're just helping me to be more sympathetic/empathetic to mothers with newborns... like you and my sister.
