Welcome to the 92nd Edition of the Carnival of Homeschooling
Thank you for stopping by this week's Carnival of Homeschooling. Our theme this week is FALL!!!! I am so thankful to see fall come. We have had a very hot and dry summer. We are looking forward to cooler temperatures and, hopefully, some rain.

So grab a cup of your favorite fall drink and enjoy this week's posts.

In the article, Helpful Art Resource, Anne of PalmTree Pundit shares with us information about borrowing free art materials from the National Gallery of Art.

At the Percival Blakeney Academy, they are planning to attend an opera performance over the winter.  I've found some great resources online for learning about opera, in the post Barber of Seville.

Kathy reminds us that October is Fire Safety Month! from her blog My Quivers Full. Here are some ideas to celebrate and prepare your family.

Nissa presents Keeping Charlotte Mason Simple for Our Family - Part 5: The Material  posted at Renaissance Academy.

Margaret asks, "How many hours of education a day?" as she gives her thoughts on tracking hours or days of learning to fulfill the homeschooling law in her new state on her blog Two Kid Schoolhouse.
Jennifer in OR presents Too Many Choices? posted at Diary of 1.

Gary presents Homeschool Review of The Drawing Breakthrough Book posted at HomeSchoolBuzz.com.

Dawn gives a review of a multiplication drill game that's a big improvement over most drill software in her post, "Review - Timez Attack" from her blog Day by Day Homeschooling.

Rachel put together this study unit on Ancient Egypt because most of the ones she could find online were very internet-heavy (and she's trying to keep her kids out of that vortex for now) and also more geared toward older children. This one is designed to be used with Grades 1-3, and is more reading/activity oriented from her blog undefined.

HappyCampers presents Log Cabin Village  posted at Reese's View Of The World.

Hurry and
enter the Fall Five Kodak Printer Give-Away at Sprittibee's Blog. Kodak and Sprittibee are giving away an EasyShare 5300 printer!  You can use her contest as a springboard to do some learning about photography and fall crafts.

Elena LaVictoire presents Our Homeschooled High Schooler posted at My Domestic Church.

Melissa shares a link to a wonderful website about Native Americans in her post First People of America . There is a ton of information for homeschoolers to share with their children from her blog Yesterday's Hopes
On Ask a Stupid Question Day, Rose at Learning at Home ponders the usual question posed to homeschoolers along with some fun questions for kids.
Barbara Frank talks about Living Within Your Means Should Be A School Subject. She says that given what's going on in our country right now, every parent, and especially homeschooling parents, should be teaching their children how to live within their means from her blog Barbara Frank.

Dana also presents A homeschooler's guide to unhappiness  posted at Principled Discovery.

Andrea Hermitt presents Homeschoolers: Well intentioned Amateurs  posted at Notes From A Homeschooling Mom.

Katherine asks, "can we say 'waste of time'?" in her post that reminds us that finding fellow homeschoolers in a new place is sometimes quite difficult from her blog No fighting, no biting!

SuperAngel of The Daily Planet asks, "Are We Following The Original Intent of the Founding Fathers??" . She says that one thing she loves in school is government and law. One of her assignments this past month was to take a closer look at original intent. Here is her essay that tells how far we have strayed from the Founding Fathers Original Intent.

Trent Hamm presents Review: The Read-Aloud Handbook  posted at The Simple Dollar.

Lynn presents Nature Study and Baby Birds posted at Homeschool2.0 Blog.

Janine proposes a set of laws that explain how homeschooling really works, and she asks for suggestions on additional laws in her article Homeschool "Laws"  from the blog Why Homeschool.

In the article, Homeschooling In Between Times, Julee talks about times when life takes over and homeschooling takes the back burner and how to deal with it on the Homeschool Daze Blog.

NerdMom presents Nerd Family: It's Time posted at Nerd Family.

Stephanie presents Sweet Sensitive Nolan posted at Adventures in the 100 Acre Wood.

Elisheva Levin presents Chol ha-Moed: Facing Fear and Fragility in the Debris Hut  posted at Ragamuffin Studies.
In this week's article, Patti, gives us a link to a page of ideas for teaching geography and a look at a very helpful geography resource, the Geography Coloring Book. This is a book of  many types of maps, flags, etc., all designed for coloring and tracing. It's a fun, easy way to learn basic geography, and the descriptions of the countries and maps are useful. Her blog is All Info About Home Schooling.

A MWIA contest is going on at Phonics Homeschool Blog.

In the post, Reflections Of My Time Post, Jocelyn of Lothlorien says, "I was thinking yesterday of how much the order of our house reflects the way we get our homeschool accomplished. Being orderly or not
can be daunting. You can get overwhelmed with a schedule that is too constricting and suffocating. Having no schedule can being overwhelming too..."

Alasandra says that she is participating in a cookie exchange in their Spanish Class. She shares with us a recipe for Pumpkin Cookies.

Jacci presents The Weekly Nature Walk :) posted at The Educational Life.
Jacque, of the blog, Seeking Rest in the Ancient Paths, is using The Girlhood Companion as a supplement to our homeschooling.  She and her daughters love the way the beauty of girlhood is expressed in lovely girly crafts, godliness, and "proper" etiquette for the heart of loveliness.

Timothy Power presents Hojotoho! posted at Sometimes I'm Actually Coherent.

Judy Aron presents Do You Know Who Has Your Student's Information? posted at Consent Of The Governed.

Denise presents Reading to learn math posted at Let's play math!

Doris Chua presents An Innovative Learning Program  posted at Doris Goes Shopping .

Jeremy Aldrich presents Can kids do well with distance learning? posted at Global Citizenship in a Virtual World.

In the article, Economics 101: College vs. Apprenticeship, consider the financial value of a college degree in today's world, when compared to spending the "college-age" years working as an apprenctice building one's own business.  This is particularly important for homeschoolers as they consider their highschool plans.  Many are convinced their kids must attend college and spend a lot of time preparing transcripts and effectively letting the college admissions officer establish their high school curriculum.  For some, this may be the path God intends but we need to carefully assess what we are doing and why, particularly as we seek to finish strong in the home stretch of our children's home education.  Certainly, a rarely challenged cultural assumption in modern America is that "you must go to college" or be forever lost as a second class citizen trapped in life long poverty. We take a calculator to these scenarios. References and links are provided for costs and other assumptions on the blog Every Good Path.

Thank you for joining us for this week's edition of the Carnival of Homeschooling. A special thank you to the Cate's of Why Homeschool for starting this Carnival. And also a hearty THANK YOU to the past hosts of the Carnival and all of the faithful readers!

Next week, the CoH will be hosted by Apollos Academy.
