My Friday the 13th Post

Spunky had a great idea to blog about our day on Friday the 13th, so I took her up on the challenge of keeping up with what we did today. So here you go.........(Sorry it's a little long)

A Day in our Lives as a Homeschool Family

I was awakened at 3:30 this morning by our 6-yr-old. He had a bad dream. Got him settled in our bed and went back to sleep. Around 4:30, I woke up again with the 6-yr-old and DH taking over the bed, since I was stopped up from a cold, I decided to move to the sofa for the remainder of the night. I was awakened again when DH got up to leave for work at 6:45. I went back to sleep until 8:30.

I got up and took care of my morning routine and spent a few minutes checking emails and reading comments to my blog. My neighbor called and asked if she could walk over to pick up some books I ordered for her. I told her that was fine, but I had not combed my hair yet. LOL While I waited on her, I checked on my internet sales overnight. I had a small order come in. YEAH! I also received payment for an E-bay auction from last week.

The boys started waking up just as my neighbor arrived at 9:00. I took care of her order and came in to feed the boys breakfast. I noticed that DD was up as well. She has had the same cold that I have, and we both have moved a bit slower this week. I fed the boys breakfast, and then after they finished, I had my breakfast and quiet time with the Lord while they played. I have been reading through the Bible, and I am currently in the book of Luke.

It’s now 9:30, and I am adding to my daily journal. When I get off the computer, I will get a shower while the children get dressed and do their morning chores. I’ll check back in with you shortly.

Chore time and shower time are over, and we are ready to start school for the day. It’s now 10:30. One thing I like about Fridays is that we have a lighter schedule than the rest of the week. We work really hard Monday through Thursday, so we can have a shorter school day on Friday.

The boys and I had lesson time at the table. I had the 5th grader start with grammar, and the 1st grader started his math, and I helped the 4-yr-old (who will be 5 on Sunday!) with writing his letters. The 2-yr-old sat beside of me in his highchair. He has a few toys, books, and crayons with paper that I rotate for him as he gets bored. Our 15-yr-old worked on her Switched on Schoolhouse Algebra I at the computer. As they complete a subject, they have a lesson plan that tells them what to do next. I just supervise and explain things as needed.

We worked until 11:30, and I needed to stop school time in order to get an order ready to process with my distributor before 12:00. Got that done and the order placed at 11:56!!! YEAH! That means my order will be here on Monday for my assistant to ship out.

At 12:00, we fixed lunch and ate together. The kids cleaned up the dishes while I went back out to the office to ship an order that came in this morning right after I stopped writing in this journal at 9:30. The boys played a Spelling Bee BINGO game together while Ashley gathered pictures from our Florida trip. She is the family scrapbooker. And Quinton went down for a nap.

I was finished shipping orders by 2:00, and all I have left to do is take the orders to the post office. I spent a few minutes checking email and writing in this journal. I think it’s time for a little nap. I am really tired from being awakened several times last night.

I had a little nap, and now the 2-yr-old is up from his nap. It’s time to make a trip to the post office to mail out my shipments for the day. I also need to stop by the grocery store to pick up a few items for dinner. While I napped the three middle boys played Legos and sorted football trading cards. And DD continued working on the scrapbook.

After I returned from my errands, DD and DH, who was home from work, started dinner. They were going to cook a fragrant meal, so I went to the office/garage to work. I caught up on paperwork while DH had fun connecting with the kids in the kitchen. The smell of dinner was not appetizing, so I had a sandwich.

After dinner, the boys played, and DD and I worked on boxing up some books for a bookfair we are going to next week-end. She decided that she likes to operate the pricing gun. LOL The boys came in and out of the office during the evening.

We tucked the boys in bed at 9:00, and DD and I played a game of Othello while DH studied for his Sunday School lesson. After some time on the computer for me, I am going to hit the bed around 11:00.

Have a blessed day! Tami
