The Lost Boys----Boys are falling behind in school.
This was the headline from Newsweek on my MSN.com news page today. Click here for the link to the article.
Inside the the article one quote says what I have known for a long time as a home educator:
"The Trouble With Boys
They're kinetic, maddening and failing at school. Now educators are trying new ways to help them succeed."
There are several story links within this story. And I know the best way to educate these boys-----bring them home!! That is what I did.
If you have been reading Gena's blog this week, you will see that she has had a common theme to what I just wrote.
Have a blessed day! Tami

I agree.I homeschool my boys and they couldn't be happier. They socialize at sporting events, have lots of friends, and behave very well.My oldest started high school this year and is now in public school,he is on the honor role.He has been in all the school plays, which goes against the myth that homeschoolers are backward and shy.The problem with these boys is not that they are boys, the problem is the school systems.

that this was a "news flash." Hasn't this been common knowledge *forever*? DUH!!!
Like your other commenter, when I put my oldest son back in public school for high school, he was soloist for show choir, best soccer player on the teams he was on, honor roll, had the lead in the all school play as a sophomore (which had never been done before be anyone), and so much more. Do I think this would have happened if I had not hs'ed him? A resounding NO!
My new dil teaches 5th grade, and is trying to incorporate a lot of hs teaching methods, ideas, and curricula in her classroom. Her class, in her first year of teaching, scored higher on the state testing than any other classroom in her building. So this year, in her 2nd year of teaching, she is head of the Lang. Arts committee to form curriculum and teaching ideas for the future. So some hs ideas work even in a ps setting---amazing but true.
