It's time to bundle up for an evening of sky watching. With a pair of
binoculars, you can tour the Moon. Sky and Telescope's article
"Touring the Moon with Binoculars" gives you instructions and a moon
map to get you started. Our Moon Phase gadget will tell you the
current moon phase, so you can make plans. Yes, our focus is astronomy
for this update! You'll find links to the above and much more in our
Moon Unit Study Resources article as well as in the focus listings on
the main page.
We're also in the process of updating our site search. We've already
done so at EHO Lite. The main EHO site is a little more complicated
because of its size. We hope to have the new site search online there
before the next update. Your purchases through the Eclectic Homeschool
Resource Center have made this upgrade possible. Thank you. We'll
finally be shed of the need for Boolean search terms....that statement
alone tells you how much we needed a new site search. What's a Boolean
search? Sounds alien.

Faithfulness in Accomplishment
Having homeschooled for 24 years and with many more years to go,
Maribeth wonders if God's call to homeschool changes when you get
older and start feeling your years. We all get tired as Maribeth
acknowledges and God can tell you to do one thing with one child and
something else with another. But if God's call hasn't changed, then
our response shouldn't change. Need your resolve strengthened?…let
Maribeth's cloud of witnesses point you in the right direction.

Phishing Game Warns Users
Featuring a cartoon fish named Phil, the game, called Anti-Phishing
Phil, has been tested in CMU's Privacy and Security Laboratory.
Officials with the lab say users who spent 15 minutes playing the
interactive, online game were better able to discern fraudulent Web
sites than those who simply read tutorials about the threat.

The Book of General Ignorance
by John Mitchinson, John Lloyd
$13.57 – 32% Off
Think Magellan was the first man to circumnavigate the globe, baseball
was invented in America, Henry VIII had six wives, Mount Everest is
the tallest mountain? Wrong, wrong, wrong, and wrong again.
Misconceptions, misunderstandings, and flawed facts finally get the
heave-ho in this humorous, downright humiliating book of reeducation
based on the phenomenal British bestseller. Challenging what most of
us assume to be verifiable truths in areas like history, literature,
science, nature, and more.
The Book of General Ignorance is a witty "gotcha" compendium of how
little we actually know about anything. It'll have you scratching your
head wondering why we even bother to go to school.
Revealing the truth behind all the things we think we know but
don't, this book leaves you dumbfounded about all the misinformation
you've managed to collect during your life, and sets you up to win big
should you ever be a contestant on Jeopardy! or Who Wants to Be a
Millionaire.
Besides righting the record on common (but wrong) myths like
Captain Cook discovering Australia or Alexander Graham Bell inventing
the telephone, The Book of General Ignorance also gives us the skinny
on silly slipups to trot out at dinner parties (Cinderella wore fur,
not glass, slippers and chicken tikka masala was invented in Scotland,
not India).
Thomas Edison said that we know less than one millionth of one
percent about anything: this book makes us wonder if we know even that
much.

A Child's Missal
by Patmos
$17.95
This Child's Missal takes an unusual approach to bringing children and
parents alike into the mysteries of the Mass. In a harmonious mix of
artwork, photos, Scripture, and text, it presents the story of how
Christ's life and the Mass are one. Going beyond the obvious
connections of the Mass with the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, it
shows how the rich symbolism of the Mass touches upon the rest of
Christ's life. Soon enough we realize how far reaching were Christ's
words when he said of the Mass, "Do this in memory of me".
Lofty though the ideas are, the story is told quite simply. The
beautiful artwork is inspired by the best of Catholic icon tradition
but re-created in a child-friendly style. The photographs from the
Mass blend seamlessly with this art to create an integrated expression
of what is being remembered in the Mass with what is being done.
This durable, hardbound Missal also makes a worthy catechism. It is
highly visual, richly theological, and poetically beautiful. It will
open the eyes of any child of God to the mysterious and wondrous
reality of Christ's life in the Mass.

Reaching for the Moon
by Buzz Aldrin, Wendell Minor (Illustrator)
$12.74 – 25% Off
Buzz Aldrin retraces the incredible journey that led him to the Moon!
"It didn't begin when I stepped on board Apollo 11 on July 16,
1969. It began the day I was born– Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr., whom
everyone called Buzz. Becoming an astronaut took more than education,
discipline, and physical strength. It took years of determination and
believing that any goal is possible – from riding a bike alone across
the George Washington Bridge at age ten to making a footprint on the Moon.
I always knew the Moon was within my reach – and that I was ready
to be part of the team that would achieve the first landing. But it
was still hard to believe when I took my first step onto the Moon's
surface. We all have our own dreams – this is the story of how mine
came true."
