Passover
Passover begins April 2nd and this week we will be studying so we can celebrate with our own Seder at my Mom's home. I was able to watch part of Zola Levitt's presentation of a Seder on ABC Family tonight. You can go to www.levitt.com and watch the same presentation. He also teaches the Messianic significance of Passover.
I will be using the Spring Holidays e-book from www.biblicalholidays.com for our study at home and will also watch the Zola Levitt video online.

Teaching our children the Bible/Teaching His Ways
When I began my research for home school curriculum I knew it had to include God's Word. The Lord was leading me to separate my children from the world and teach them about Him and His ways. This is why I named our home school Teaching His Ways.
I came across the Heart of Wisdom website because I was looking for a place to buy The Family Guide to Biblical Holidays. I noticed there was a home school section and began to read about it. I studied it for several weeks, going back and reading page after page, printing out articles and trying to get a feel for the teaching methods. After much prayer and consideration I felt the Lord was leading me to use this curriculum to teach my children. Using this curriculum brings God's Word into almost every subject - history, science, writing, vocabulary, spelling...all language arts, can be taught using God's Word. Math....well, I am actually reading a book about teaching math from a Biblical perspective but until I am finished I don't feel it would be right to discuss it. I need to read the book, pray and see if everything lines up with the Word of God.
Well, this being our first year to home school has been very challenging and eye opening. In reading the Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach I learned that public education system is a Greek method of teaching which focuses on literature and man's reasoning. I learned that in order to teach my children God's ways I would need to approach it from a Hebrew method which focuses on God's Word and faith. Wow! Why on earth has a country, founded on Biblical principles, allowed God to be pushed aside? Why are we allowing all influences, except godly influences, into our government, homes, churches, and schools?
I attended public school. I graduated from public school in 1987. I was blessed to be in a school where they allowed us to pray and talk about the Lord. While my son was in public school they wouldn't allow him to talk about the Lord. He did it anyway but not out of rebellion against the rules. Jesus is in his heart. It was a very natural thing for him to talk to others about or to question something he was learning and try to match it up to where this fits into the Bible. I was amazed and I think his teachers were also but they weren't allowed to say much for fear of causing a problem in the workplace. I never want my children's love for Jesus to become something they are afraid to speak about openly.
It has been difficult letting go of a public school mindset. The scripture the Lord gave me when I prayed about homeschooling was Matthew 6:33 - Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. I can go for awhile and stay on that path, allowing the Lord to guide and direct, teaching my children the ways of the Lord. Then I find myself slipping back into the public school mindset, scheduling like a public school teacher, looking for new resources to add to our current array of things to do. Then the Holy Spirit whispers Matthew 6:33 and reminds me to stay on the path. The most important thing I can teach my children is who God is(and I am speaking about the one true God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Lord God of Israel.) and how He loves us so much that He sent His Son to be our Redeemer. God is the same today as He was yesterday. He will be the same tomorrow. He never changes. His Word is Truth, it is our handbook, it is our comfort. If I seek Him first in all things and teach my children to do the same then we will always have all we need. I claim that for their education also. They will be able to learn all they need to with a strong Biblically based foundation. They will obtain all the math, reading and writing skills they need. They will learn history and science from God's perspective not man's. They will know about prophecy, what has already been fulfilled and what remains to be fulfilled. They will be prophetically prepared for what is to come. But most of all, they will have wisdom, discernment, knowledge and understanding.
