Clay Center
Today we (me, my kids, my friend and her kids) went to the Clay Center in Charleston
WV. I'm sure it's a wonderful place but we were not
impressed. We went today because it was Home School Day at the
Capital and the price was reduced. It is normally very
expensive. So we went and tried to ignore the snooty
attendant at the front who was not going to let a man and his young
daughter in because they were not part of any organized group. I
said from behind him "He's with US!" and the lady shot me a snippy
glare. There was some debate if the daughter was old enough to
even BE schooled (she *was* tiny) and I said "she's home PRE-schooled,
prove that she's not." The lady reluctantly allowed them entry
into their hallowed hall of snootytude. So I walked up to pay and
the dude acted like I was ruining his entire day by selling me a ticket
and I said "I'll pay for all that we're able to see" which was
just the 360 movie and the exhibits at this point. No
problem. Well,, we got preoccupied with the exhibits and missed
the movie by 2 minutes and they wouldn't let us in. Our fault,,
disappointing, but I understand. When we were in the downstairs
exhibit (which was practically abandoned , we were 6 of 8 people down
there) a snippy lady followed our kids around like they were
somehow going to "make a mess" or "break" the hands on exhibits.
She annoyed me. Lastly, we went to the gift shop and the lady
behind the desk said "are you guys homeschoolers?" (disgustedly) and I
replied "yes" and she then sighed heavily while asking "are there any
MORE of you people?" UGH! What was their problem? I
won't be back unless there is something really major. I found
them snotty, unaccessable, incovenient, and unfriendly. I might
throw in expensive too. Anyway,, just a review for
any of you WV homeschoolers who are considering going. I also had
a toothache today which may have colored my mood at bit, but I'm
sticking to my story.
