May. 24, 2009 - Happy Memorial Weekend!

Well my trip from Virginia to Alabama went great.  And thank the Lord  that it did not rain.  I do believe that we all know that tomorrow is Memorial Day.  The best thing that we as Christians and Americans can do is thank the ones who have served and are currently serving.  These men fought for the country they love and nothing makes them feel happier than a warm thank you.

I pray that we all have a great time with our loved ones this holiday.

May. 20, 2009 - The Past Month

Hello there my fellow bloggers.  I am truly sorry about the epic gap since I last posted.  I do have a fair explanation for it.  Soon after Easter God blessed me with an incredible job opportunity which has kept me busy till now.  Right now I'm getting ready for a massive trip to the south!  Packing and preparations will consume time like you won't believe.  Thursday is when we all head out.  Kentucky will be our first stop because we all enjoy seeing my great grandmother who is 93, God bless her.  Then late Friday night we will start for Alabama where I lived in my early childhood.  On May 27th I will be heading to the TeenPact National Convention in Dayton, TN.  It is my first time and I will run for Representative.  Please keep me in prayer that I will be a blessing and challenge to others and for a time of sweet renewal in my life as well as all campers and my family.

And that’s about it. Drama classes are over for the year. I'm done with Math and still have a few more subjects to finish up.   My pastor gave me the leading role in our VBS skits as a penguin.  YES I have always wanted to be one.  I know I’m all about Star Wars but I have to admit that 2009’s Star Trek was sweet.  Wolverine was the best X-men movie yet and Terminator is right around the corner. I tell you what; God has been such a tremendous blessing to my family and me.  My father couldn’t be any happier with being back with the State Police, my mother and sisters are doing wonderful and I have lost track of how many things God has done with my life lately.  God in heaven is my saviour, protector, shepherd, teacher and best friend.

I'll see you all in two weeks!

Apr. 12, 2009 - My King is Risen!!

Happy Easter everyone!  I hope that all of you have a great day.  And just to let you know, I am having an awesome Easter so far.  I have a great church to go to, a wonderful family and best of all, a King who died and rose again for me.  I’m not sure what the rest of the day holds but I guess I am going to find out.

Here’s a picture of my family and I.

Apr. 9, 2009 - Walking the Streets of Romania

ROMANIA!!!!  Being a missionary was the best thing to ever did.  I loved it with all my heart.   I lived there for so long that my friends there almost seemed to be blood related.  I inhaled every moment of joy and adventure in Romania.  God was always there in the bad and good times.

I can remember to this day walking on the streets of Romania. First I would grip the hard and cold metal knob that was on the door that led outside.  I then shut the door behind me breathing in the summer air and then started down the following steps.  I trotted towards the gate which had another door and on the other side of the gate was our street.  After I exited the courtyard, I turned to lock the gate’s door.  My eye then shifted to the right seeing that a few neighborhood buddies of mine were dying to play basketball with me.  I told them I had to walk to the corner store to purchase some bread, soda, milk and chips for lunch and that I would play when I returned.  I then embarked on my long journey to the corner store.  Three minutes later I walked into the tiny shop looking for the desired items on the list as I waited in line.  Finally I was next. I told the very friendly lady everything that I needed, paid her the money and wished her a happy day.  As I got closer to the street that intersected the one I had to get to, a huge transportation truck drove right in front blowing all kinds of gasses in my face.  I then took a look in both directions for any oncoming cars.  Even though it was a clear I sprinted across the road.  Walking back home was always difficult for me then because I didn’t have the arms I have now.  It was because I had to carry a bag full of bread, milk and chips and in the other hand I had a couple of two liters of soda.  I would have to stop every 4 yards to reposition the drinks in-between my little fingers.   I would occasionally see a little kitten running around with 5 others or maybe worse, getting chased by a stray dog.  (If I ever mention I don’t like dogs at all, you will know why. Stray dogs were everywhere, always on the prowl.)  There was this one time I saw a goat eating weeds in the cracks of the side walk.  And speaking of sidewalks, they all looked like they were left there from World War II.  That being said, if I was given a dollar every time I tripped because of the bad sidewalks, I’d be a millionaire.  Once I arrived at my final destination I unlocked the gate, ran into the kitchen putting the newly purchased items down, I ran back outside of the gate with my basketball ready to play.

Walking in Romania was a ton of fun.  I not only walked to the small store but everywhere; the mall, the beach, bowling and to a friend’s house.

Well I hope this was a fun story for you.  Please leave any questions and I’ll be more than happy to answer to my best ability.

Apr. 7, 2009 - Permission vs. Forgiveness

We have all heard the saying, “It is better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.”  Well I say that is WRONG!  This is only a lie that the world has come up with.  It encourages children to become rebellious.  It is a deceitful mindset that leads them down a dangerous path. I say “It is wiser to ask permission first than to beg for forgiveness.”  If someone wants to do something that they don’t want their parents to know about, they never ask permission.  That’s just a part of sin nature.  If someone ever says “It is better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission,” almost every time they are leading you into doing something that is against your parents and God.  If you ask for permission first it will save you the headache of getting in big trouble.  Permission is something that you ought to practice. It’s a tool that allows your parents to guide you. They have better judgment and are trying to keep you out of harm’s way. When they say no it is NOT because they don’t want you to have fun.  Asking for permission is basic communication.

Of course, if you have wronged someone it is necessary to ask for forgiveness. It is the thing you need to learn to show others. “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven”. Matthew 18:21-22   Forgiveness is most needed when one calls out for God to forgive them of their sin.  That is a true example of “begging for forgiveness.”  For you are saved by grace.  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:” Colossians 1:14

Apr. 5, 2009 - April 2,3,4

Hello everyone.  I’m sorry if I have kept you waiting; I’ve had a busy weekend.  Let me tell you what happened today and the past three days.

04/02:  The 2nd was the big day for my “Hunchback of Notre Dame” play.  Yes I did play Quasimodo and it was a hard task to make facial expressions and bend my knees for the entire performance.  But it was worth it all in the end.  That was one of the craziest plays I’ve done so far.

04/03: Friday I had work in the morning which went well.  Then most of that day I just hung out at home, waiting for my dad to arrive home from the VSP academy.  The greatest thing happened this week. God answered our prayer for my father to get transferred to a station closer to home rather than Roanoke (a two and half hour difference).  PRAISE GOD!!

04/04:  The fourth of April is a very special day for my parents.  As of yesterday they have been married for 22 years!  Also on that day my sister and I had ACT tests at a nearby public school, and it was a lot of fun!!  After my parents had a great time together and the tests, I had to go to work and ended up enjoying myself.  There is this one manager that I work with and every time I work with her I’ll invite her to church; no luck yet.  Please pray for this lady.  She and her family need to go.

04/05:  Today is my most favorite day of the week, Sunday.  I love going to church and being with the people.  I love, getting to suit up.  But most importantly, I love worshiping the Lord my Savoir.  The best part about this month is that I get to be one of the ushers for the entire month!!  This morning I was talking to one of the most respected gentlemen there (he might tell you differently) about Rush Limbaugh ties and how they don’t sell them anymore.  When I arrived for the evening service he came to me and gave me one of his Limbaugh ties!  I thanked him so much; I’ll try to post a picture of me wearing it someday.

That’s all for now.  Talk to you soon.

Mar. 31, 2009 - Gabriel Woodward for Representative

Hi guys, I'm sorry that I have not been able to post anything. I’ve just been catching up with a lot stuff.  But you're probably wondering what this “Gabriel Woodward for Representative” is all about.  Well a month and  a half ago, I was a student at TeenPact Virginia.  Since I went there I get to go to the Alumni camp called National Convention (NC).  The NC is similar to TeenPact just 10 times better, from what I have heard.  There you can choose sign up to run for TeenPact office.  I enjoyed running for Senator so much at TeenPact that I really wanted to give it another go this summer.  This is a great opportunity to put myself in a leader’s position (win or lose.)  In the end, there will only be one President and Vice President, four Senators and nine Representatives.  Right now in my campaign I’m just trying to get more Name/Face recognition.  In about two weeks I’ll start buying my campaign materials, for example: posters, flyers and business cards.  NC is in the end of May to the beginning of June.  So please pray for me and that I might win and more importantly have fun and make great friends.

Thank you for your support.

Mar. 28, 2009 - 300 Phone Calls

This past week my landscaping boss (Jason) offered me a small job.  And I said “yes” willingly without asking what it was.  This is what he said “I need you to make 300 phone calls for me.”  My instant response with a little sarcasm was “Great!”   About a couple days later we met up and he gave me a 6 page list of the numbers.  I’ve been working on it for about 3 days and I finished it today!  It could have had taken one day but I had a lot of stuff going on throughout the week.  Have you ever been assigned to make 300 calls within 6 hours?  It’s crazy just thinking about it, phone call after phone call.  My arm fell asleep on my desk as I made the calls.  I even got to the point to where I started to sound like a recording.  I would say “Hello my name is Gabriel with (the company name), how are you doing today?”  Some people asked “is this a recording?”  And others would just hang up, it was pretty funny.   And now I am not afraid of calling people I don’t know at all.

Thanks for reading.

Mar. 26, 2009 - My Stand on the Dating System

I do not date.  I do not believe that dating is Biblical. It is a corrupt system that draws teens away from God, their family and friends.  I am blessed that for all these years that I have been able to create a friendship with my savior. I am thankful for the time that I have had to be able to develop close relationships with my family members.  I am going to wait for that Christian woman that God has waiting for me down the road.

One night about four months ago, my pastor and I went to look for some makeup to use in our church’s Christmas cantata.  After we were finished getting the supplies that we needed, he and his wife invited me to have dinner with them at their house.  Earlier that day, Pastor asked me where I stood on the dating factor.  I told him what I said above.   During dinner, the pastor’s wife was washing some dishes as he and I ate.  I asked him if it was worth not dating all those years and to just simply wait for God’s best.  The second I said that, both of them turned to me with an immediate “YES!”

I believe that because of my choosing not to get involved with a girl romantically, God has blessed me with friends that I could have had never imagined.  And if God's will has no woman for me, I still have Him and will still continue to love Him.

Mar. 25, 2009 - A Bill on Abortion

Something about me:  I, without a doubt, am pro-life.  Kids are one of my passions.  Babies are a bright light shining for the future.  Besides the gift of life, a baby is one of the best gifts in this world that God can give to a married couple.  I stand strong in my position of being pro-life.

About a month ago I was told that Virginia is trying to pass a bill that involves abortion.  As of right now, making abortion illegal is only possible by God.  But there is a bill that might help to greatly reduce the number of innocent children who are cruelly and thoughtlessly murdered each year.

Here’s a fact about this UNGODLY choice.   Some women who consider abortion can choose to have an ultra sound.  Sixty percent of the women who request the ultra sound will decide to keep the baby or give it up for adoption.  The mentioned bill states that every woman going through abortion MUST first have an ultra sound.  This will help immensely with this treachery.

I only ask that you pray for this bill to pass.

Mar. 24, 2009 - Ask For a Prayer Request

I assume that you guys pray for your church and the individuals that have specific requests.  But do you ever walk up to someone in church and ask them if they have anything that you could be praying about?  People will realize that you are a person they can turn to in times of need.  I know that generally you feel more comfortable asking the ones closest to you.  But the real leaders will step out of their comfort zone and ask the ones who are in the background; whether it is in church, work or school.  This is what I’m going to do this coming Sunday.  I’m going to go to a few people there and that I know but I don’t talk to that much and ask them if there’s anything that I can be praying about for them.  It does not matter if it is an unspoken prayer or something they don’t mind telling you.  If you ask someone personally for a prayer request it makes them feel like they’re in a place where even the youth care for them.

I thank you for your support on my blog.  Please let me know if there’s anything I can pray about for you   in your life.

Mar. 23, 2009 - Four of My Greatest Heroes

I would suspect that some of you guys were wondering who might be my heroes in life.  Well we all know that Jesus is number one; but these guys are my earthly heroes.

The newlywed guy to the far right is my youth pastor.  He is a big inspiration in my life because of his caring heart and loving God is what he shows most about himself.  He is always up to the task, ever so ready to roll out.  The greatest thing about him is that he’s not super strict about everything but he’s laid back and always has a desire to have a good time.

Then the young gentleman to the far left is my landscaping boss.  Just the way he looks in this picture is the way he acts all the time.  God could not of had blessed me with a greater boss than this guy.   His ability to run a business is extraordinary; because of his deep love for God he is the nicest man to work for.  The moment we first met we thought that we were long lost brothers and we have been hanging out and working together ever since.

And now the third hero that is just to my left is my pastor.  This “Man of God” cannot stop preaching the TRUTH, and he will never stop, praise God.  This is the man who gave me an acting part in the Christmas play and allowed me to speak on one Wednesday evening.  He also let me become an usher at the church.  Because of his passion for Christ, God has blessed him with an AWESOME church to shepherd.  He is by far one of my greatest encouragers.

And last but not least, my greatest of all heroes; the one I love the most, the one who has always been there for me, the one who I am crying about right now; is my father.  Yes, the man to the right with very little hair on his head is my best friend.  I’m sorry, but I cannot tell you all the great things he has done for me because it would take more than just one entry.  This is the man who led me to Christ, to become a born again Christian.  He also baptized me.  He brought me up to where I didn’t have any desire to date, that I should wait for that Beautiful, Smart, God Fearing, Brave, Pretty, Loving and Caring Christian young lady that God has waiting for me.  My dad brought me up to love good, to love America, cars, baseball, guns and most importantly, God and His word.  Ever since I was a baby to this day he will come to me and say, “Gabriel, there is no one in this world who loves you more than your mother and I.”

Those four Great, Godly Leaders are the men that I want to become.

The TeenShip series will start again tomorrow.

Mar. 22, 2009 - My Bodacious Weekend

Well, I didn't plan to have a lesson today because I just wanted to show you what I have been doing this weekend.  First, my youth group and I went bowling this past Friday.  There was about 12 teens there and we all had a blast.  The youth pastor said that whoever wins gets to pie the loser or him.  After our two hours of bowling real hard, I ended up with the highest score.  Unfortunately my sister had the lowest, and I knew that she would never forgive me and everyone wanted the youth pastor to get pied.  So, I did what was best and pied my fellow hero.

The next day after church visitation with my Dad, my family and I went to go Birthday shopping.  My birthday is this week and my dad will not be home.  So we are just celebrating it now.  The past two months I have just woren my black sport jacket and have been wanting a pin striped suit, and that's what my dad and mom bought me.  My family also gave me a red shirt and that cool tie you see in the picture.  Today at church I had a lot of people comment on it, and my boss is jealous.  He said that he's going to go buy one just like it.

These are the books that I am currently reading.

Well that's all for now.  If this is your first time here please take a look over my past entries.  Thanks.

Mar. 21, 2009 - Letter to Heroes

Every leader loves encouragement!  Parents, pastors, youth pastors, grandparents, Sunday school teachers, policemen… the list is endless.

A few weeks ago I was a student at TeenPact [ http://www.teenpact.com/ ] Virginia, which is a program that teaches young Christian teenagers the importance of leadership and politics.  The greatest impact on me, without a doubt, was the TeenPact staff.  They were great young teen leaders, who I grew to admire.  Most of them were one or two years younger than me.  I appreciated them so much that on Wednesday night I wrote them all an individual letter of encouragement and thanks.  When I handed them out, each one of them thanked me with sincere gratitude without having read it yet.  The next day after having read the letter, each one came to me on separate occasions thanking me for making their week.  Most of them said that they had always wondered what it would be like to get any feedback from someone whose life had actually been changed and greatly impacted.  They had been deeply encouraged by the written letter of thanks and appreciation.

So today, I challenge you to write a letter to that person who blesses you or is a hero/heroine of yours.  It will make their day beautiful, and they will always be looking out for you and encouraging you in return.  Whether it be your pastor or your parents; hand it out to them in person or send it by mail.

That’s all for today; and it’s “My Pleasure” to be talking to you “Wonderful” people.

Mar. 20, 2009 - Becoming a Leader MUST Start at Home

Before we start, I just wanted to say that, "TeenShip" means, "TEENager LeaderSHIP."

Remember this, everyone likes a compliment.  Today, at home, make at least one compliment to your father, mother and that annoying sibling.  Becoming a leader MUST start at home.  If the opportunity arrives make a compliment to someone in public; you know, places like: Wal-mart, Church, the movies, the mall…

You don’t want to be a person that says compliments like this; “Oh, I just love the pink bodacious shirt.”  No, it needs to be more like this.  “Holly, your hair looks beautiful this morning.”  (Holly is my 10 year old sister.)  And don’t just make any compliments just to say you can, but really mean them.  If you have a hard time complimenting people then the only thing I can say is pray to God to give you the desire.  Complementing your siblings alone will give you that extra feeling in being a leader in your own home.

So come on, give it a go, make at least one, right now.

And remember to say “My Pleasure” everywhere.

Mar. 19, 2009 - My Pleasure

Sorry that this entry could not be on this morning; I was at work.  But I thought that today I would start my series "What You Should Do Today" with "My Pleasure."  This way of saying, "Your Welcome" does not really get you anywhere in becoming a great leader; but, more people will smile and get a kick out of it.  Today, every time someone says thank you, you say "My Pleasure."
I got this habit of saying my pleasure working at "
Chick-fil-A."  And I began to
realize that every time I would say it out side of work, people would enjoy it; and it does impress adults and higher officals.

So, come on, give it a try and try to get use to it.

I am also going to do a "quote of the day."

Mar. 18, 2009 - W. is my Middle Name

Hello there everyone, my name is Gabriel W. Woodward.  I thought that my first entry should be some facts about who I am.  Well, like I just said, my name is Gabriel, and some call me Gabe.  I'm also fortunate that W. is my middle name, it stands for William, not Walker (just in case you were wondering.)  I'm not 18 yet, but I will be on the 23rd of this month.  Right now I'm working at a Skating Rank, it is not the best place to work at all; because they only pay 6.75 an hour and their managers are tough.  All the employees get on my nerves; but this is a great oppertunity to be a STRONG, GODLY LEADER.  I also LOVE to act on stage, my next play is called "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," and you guessed it; I am playing the hunchback himself.
I am also the only teenage usher at my church, called "Truth Baptist Church."
Things I love to do:
1. Read the word of God.
2. Smile
3. Hang out with my father.
4. Draw
5. Make funny faces at little kids at church.  (They just laugh at me.)
6. Read History
7. Music
8. Bowling
9. Helping out my Pastor and Youth Pastor.
10. Making Movies (Have not made any good ones yet, but I'll let you know when I do.)

Thats just 1% of the things I love to do.  My sister is a great photographer, so I'll try to get a picture of myself on here by Sunday.

Tomorrow I am going to start my series called "What You Should Do Today."  It will tell you what you should do that entire day.  One step that will transform you into becoming a Great, Godly, Leader.

I should get going now, I'll see you all later.
