Spring 2008 TOS

The Spring 2008 issue of The Old Schoolhouse magazine is hot off the presses! And with a new way to subscribe that will save you money, shelf space and waiting time! You can subscribe for the new DIGITAL EDITION. You can view a sample of Summer 2007 as a digital issue to see how it works and how convenient and easy it would be to have that type of subscription.
Now, back to the Spring 2008 issue. I read this issue cover-to-cover (as usual) and came up with this article to share with you, just to whet your appetite a bit.
"The Inside Scoop on Washington, D.C." by Maggie S. Hogan (pg. 152 ff) was such an informative article about what to see, what to do, and hints on how to get it all done when you visit our nation's capital. Maggie has noted specific points of interest and added hints on taking children and even on parking in D.C. (I don't recall any hints on driving in D.C. which is a challenge unto itself.)
Also this Spring 2008 issue has lots of article concerning the Preschool years, so if you have toddlers and preschoolers, you'll certainly not want to miss this issue. Enjoy!

TOS Winter 2007/08
I received my The Old Schoolhouse magazine and boy is it chocked full of fun and informative articles! This is the issue with all the Convention news as well as an entire section devoted to FREEBIES! You can read about the Freebies at this link.
My favorite article this issue is "Following the Iditarod" and it begins on page 134. We have been reading about sled dog racing and Siberian Huskies so this is a great time to follow this year's Iditarod (which begins on March 1st this year.) The author of this article, Dena Wood, has given us many resources to find at our local library, as well as on-line resources to help us with our study of the Great Race.
If you don't have a subscription to TOS, you may order just this one issue at The Schoolhouse Store or you can subscribe and receive all this great information at your home every quarter!
Enjoy your Winter Issue! (And meet me and my family on pages 40-41)

50% off sale!
e-books, audio books and magazine back issues are all 50% for one week only!! At The Old Schoolhouse we know that there is more than one right way to homeschool. We believe that each family has to figure out what method and educational philosophy "fits" their family best. Some parents may be juggling work responsibilities and homeschooling. Others are homeschooling as single parents. Some have special needs children, while others are still learning the basics of home education. In all of our products, we strive to present a variety of authors and resources which will inspire and encourage you as you tailor your homeschool to your family's needs.
And now for seven days only, we're putting all of our TOS e-Books and audio books on sale for 50% off. Plus our back issues normally priced at $9.90 are 50% off too. Sale Ends midnight Sunday, January 27. International customers please note, due to high international shipping costs, audio books are only available for US customers and back issues require a shipping upgrade.
See the Schoolhouse Store for these and other great resources.

Homeschool Nations needs HELP!
We are in need of more state blog coordinators!! The main thing a state blog coordinator would need to do is to help keep your state informed of events, homeschool ideas, laws, and just plan fun stuff to do around their state. I enjoy writing on here weekly (and sometimes more) and I've learned so much about our state by doing this blog.
So if you know of other homeschoolers in the following states/territories that you think might be able to help with their state blog, then please have them contact Pat Mills!! It really is a fun 'job'.
~ Betsy
States needing coordinators:
Delaware
Idaho
Indiana
Louisiana
Maryland
Mississippi
Montana
Nebraska
New Jersey
New York
Rhode Island
South Carolina
South Dakota

Washington DC
Territories:
Puerto Rico
Other countries:
Canada (many different Provinces are needing coordinators)
England (check with Pat on which areas need help)
Check out Homeschool Nations to visit other state blogs and see how it all works!

TOS Survey
It's almost time for us to close our 2007 Homeschool Survey
But you Can Still Participate!
Over 3000 homeschoolers have already shared their opinions with us, but we say "the more the merrier". We even have two free ebooks to share with anyone who completes the survey.
One is our newest ebook, Homeschool Dialogues, which features some of the most popular interviews from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine over the years. The other is 20 Homemade Learning Games from our friends at Trigger Memory System! We definitely think you'll enjoy reading both of these books. Be watching; once you complete the survey, you'll be directed to a page where you can immediately download both ebooks.
We truly appreciate all of you taking the time to participate in our survey and look forward to reading all of the results. It truly helps us to be the best magazine that we can be!
And won't you please share the link to the homeschool survey with your homeschool groups or friends so they can participate and get the free ebooks before Friday? We'd love to hear from them too!
Sincerely,
Your Friends at The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

The Old Schoolhouse Fall 2007
The Old Schoolhouse Magazine Fall 2007 issue has arrived at my house! Has your's come yet? If you don't subscribe to TOS you can purchase just this one issue from the Schoolhouse Store with FREE SHIPPING. Just click on the image of Fall 2007 and you'll go right to the Schoolhouse Store!
I haven't gotten a chance to read my issue cover to cover like I usually do right away, but I did find a special article that I wanted to tell you about.
The Many Blessings of the Clothesline by Lisa Vitello can be found on pages 166-167 of Fall 2007. This article talks about the wonderful smell of freshly dried laundry and the costs that you can save if you don't use your dryer. I love the outdoor fresh smell that you can get from hanging your laundry out! Ms. Vitello even discusses what you could possibly do if you are 'outlawed' in your area from having a clothesline.
I remember when we used to hang out the clothes when we lived in Honduras, Central America. In that tropical heat, the laundry was always dry by the time the next load was ready to hang! And boy did they fade if you left them in the sun for very long at all. Therefore, they didn't hang out very long, and they didn't have that fresh smell we get here in the States because they weren't out there long enough. Okay, enough reminiscing.
If you can, pick up this issue of The Old Schoolhouse and pour over it like I do. You will learn so many things. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel right at home. You can order a subscription here and receive lots of free goodies as well.
