Free "learn to build" programs
Local Hardware stores offer free building programs for children!
The "How to Build" clinic for kids is THIS SATURDAY, November 10th at your neighborhood Lowe's hardware store. Your child will receive a small building project kit, a Lowe's apron, safety goggles, certificate and patch stating which project they completed. Tools are provided to use to complete your kit at the store.
Follow the drop down menu for "Projects and Video Center" to "How-to-Clinics" for more information and to register your 2nd - 5th grader.
Remember Lowe's has this "How to Build" for children class EVERY SECOND and FOURTH SATURDAY of each month. Here's a picture of my son and a project that he made last year at our local Lowe's Hardware store:

Home Depot
"KIDS WORKSHOP" is a free, year-round program provided by The Home Depot. Every 1st Saturday of the month at Home Depots nationwide, kids up to age 13 are invited to come between 9am and 12 and build, learn, and create. When you arrive and sign in, each child receives a complimentary apron (for 1st timers). Each month the stores provide a "do-it-yourself kit" and all the tools needed for each child to do their project with the assistance of a parent or other adult. The projects usually take 15-30 minutes to complete. Upcoming projects are:

Homeschoolopoly
We received our Homeschoolopoly game yesterday. What a game! It was originally going to be a Christmas present, but I was much too excited to wait until Christmas to play! The boys immediately set out to see how it works. The game plays with most of the basic rules we are all used to with the other 'opoly' games. The tokens are these adorable little pieces that look like a boy, a girl, a dog, a globe, a bicycle and, my personal favorite, a rocking chair.

Some of the "properties" represented on the game board are homeschool suppliers we all know and/or use ourselves. Like Sonlight, Christian Liberty Press, KONOS, & Rainbow Resource.
Other areas include Grace and Mercy cards, HSLDA and HomeschoolersConnecting.com. Of course with an HSLDA membership card that you might draw from the Mercy or Grace stacks, you get out of Court free!
Transportation areas include the "Many Van", "Cool as can be SUV", "Wee Little Wagon" and the "Big Family Bus". Those are always ds's favorite properties. You are able to purchase Stacks of Books or, the ultimate, Key of Knowledge to put on your properties in order to collect more rent.
Our own Homeschoolblogger and The Old Schoolhouse Magazine are featured on the Mercy and Grace cards, as well as The Schoolhouse Store on the game board itself.
Neat rules are if you land on "Home Sweet Homeschool" you receive $500 instead of the normal $200 for passing "Home"; and if you land on "Field Trip" you get to take all those fees you've been putting in the middle! Fun, fun, fun.
Also included in each game box is this handy Homeschool Resource Guide that will help you keep your favorite homeschool companies at your fingertips. Many of the suppliers offer discounts in this Resource Guide.
Homeschoolopoly is a great, fun game! We all enjoyed it so much, even though I was the first one to go bankrupt.
I think this would make a great Christmas present for any family that homeschools. And keep a look out for Homeschoolopoly Junior available in 2007. Check out the web site at Homeschoolopoly.com!

Weekend getaways!
Maybe you need to step back from your
stresses as a homeschool family and just get away for the night or
weekend with your sweety. After all, Valentine's day is
approaching. Just wanted to share the link to the Christian Hospitality Network
- Tennessee. This link will take you to the bed and breakfasts in
Tennessee that are part of the Christian Lodging Association..
Sweet times to share with your sweety! I can personaly vouch for the Whitestone Inn in Kingston as being VERY accomodating! ~Betsy
