Mar. 17, 2007 - The Music Part of School

Well, at the beginning of the school year, my husband and I decided to outsource music since it was becoming too much for me. We are in March. About a month from now, my children will be performing in the homeschool fine arts festival. I am nervous because my younger son has been learning Suzuki violin and my older son has been learning the piano. These are two instruments that I played as a child. Thus, I could teach them myself, but I do not know the Suzuki method.
So far, my sons are doing well. My younger son is learning how to hold the bow and violin in place. He finds it hard because the teacher wants him to place his fingers and head a certain way. I understand that all of the positioning is to help him make a better sound. That is how Suzuki has been going with my younger son.
My older son plays the piano. The teacher feels that he excels in his work. He can read the notes and play. He diligently practices and it shows in his playing every week. The teacher put him in a higher level piano to the beginner in January and she said to me this week that she still cannot challenge him enough. He is outstanding once again. You know, you always feel like your children are outstanding, but it is nice when others say it about your son. I hope that they do well in the fine arts program.
That is what is happening in the music part of school. Pray for us because next year they will take the violin and the piano.

for visiting my blog and commenting. It's good to hear how other people are affected by wonderful writing and/or ideas. As the to music: I also learned violin Suzuki method as a child. I loved it. We moved 3/4 of the way through 6th gr and the new teacher tried to teach me notes and not Suzuki at all. I was confused and discouraged and quit : (. Now one of my boys wants to learn violin too and I'm looking into Suzuki for him. Enjoy the recital.
