May. 12, 2008 - The Birds DVD that I have been watching

I have mentioned in the past that I am cheating on my birds nature study by watching stories about birds on DVD. I am watching an old Discovery Channel DVD called the Life of Birds. We learned how birds fly and what their feathers are made of. We learned how meateaters hunt and bug pickers catch. I feel badly because I am not always outside watching birds, but I discovered that I am wrong.
The other day, I was driving along the highway and a bird was flying very low. My younger son called out, "look at that bird how he stretched out his wings after flapping." He said, "he must have just taken off and is just starting to fly." I asked him if he remembered that from the DVD. He said, "yes, and look at the size of those wings." Well, I am shocked that he is even paying attention. Whenever, there are birds in the backyard, he is observing them. He has taken an interest in their movement. He even found a bird's feather. It is very dark and about eight inches long.
Who knows what I started just from watching a DVD on the life of birds?
Thank you for letting me share.

It sounds like you don't really have too much to worry about with him. He's catching more than you realize. :)

Yes! Those are the DVDs. Just to let you know the very first one is very evolution in its flavor. A lot of guess work and computer generated ideas. After that first episode, the rest of the stuff is excellent. It is mesmerizing. My sons were instantly captivated and you learn soooo much!
Blessings on your homeschooling journey!
