By the word of their testimony

Jul. 9, 2008 - My sons' IOWA test scores

This has been a bitter sweet moment in the IOWAs.  My older son did well.  Overall, he score in the 96th percentile.  My younger son was a crying shame.  I feel that I have failed in my homeschooling career.  What am I to do?  He bombed big time.  I tell you my younger son keeps me humble.

I am eating humble pie as I read these numbers.

I would like to say though that I am confused about what my younger son's struggle is.  I have a feeling that he did not understand what the test was asking him.  Many times that is the key to testing well.  The reason I say this is my younger son came in first place in the Spelling Bee this year.  Many of the words in the second grade test were words in the Spelling Bee.  I think that he did not understand what was asked of him.  I also feel that he did not pay as much attention as he should have.  I realize that my younger son needs to practice taking tests more to understand how to succeed in them.  I am going to continue to work with him on understanding certain subjects.  All I can do is pray.  However, I know that my younger son is bright.  I just think that IOWAs are not reflecting it.  So, I realize that I probably should teach my son how to master the IOWAs.

Thanks for letting me share.
