Jul. 6, 2009 - My Ministering Weekend

I have returned from a long four day weekend. I spent four days in the Catskills. I worked those four days like a work horse. So, my fourth of July was spent teaching children about Jesus Christ.
Every year around this time, I go to minister to children in the Catskills. The name of the church that I do this ministry for is called Boon Church. It is a Chinese church in Flushing, NY. The name of the Christian Resort that we stay at is called Miracle Mountain in Freehold, NY. It is run by an all black congregation from Harlem. This year was different because I had to run the children's care program this year. This is what happened.
We all ministered. My husband lead worship. I taught the lessons and my sons did the puppets. So, we were basically a ministering family. We only had about thirty children this year. I had some others and my mother who helped with the children. The program went over very well. It was just difficult. I worked my hardest to allow the children to have an enjoyable time. We worked from 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM. We were always trying to do different things to keep the children busy, occupied, and yet focused on Jesus. I had all kinds of games and candy. I think the best game for the weekend was the water balloon fight. The second best was the shaving cream game. The focus of the weekend was to be a doer of the word and not just a hearer only.
I taught them the lesson of the parable of the seed sower. The children learn how the seed, which is the Word of God, is thrown on different paths. Each area represents what kind of a hearer they were. For example, the seeds that fell on the path. The birds ate them. So, the birds represented the devil. Those hearers did not accept the Word and allowed the evil one to come a snatch it from them. I did each type of ground that the seeds fell on every day. I hope that people will learn from the lessons.
We took homeschooling to a new level because my children got to minister to others and play with the children as well. They were able to learn about how to minister Jesus to others. We had our ups and downs during this weekend, but overall I think it was enjoyable by everyone.

In this picture, the children are preparing to get ready to do some game.
