Dressmaking…

I am learning to be a dressmaker. I am working on a beautiful dress for my youngest sister. It has a lot of lace trimming and has an overskirt. I hope it turns out well. I will get to learn how to put in a collar, put in sleeves, line a collar with fusible webbing, put in lace and how to gather fabric on a large scale. I have sewn a few articles of clothing before. I made myself a pair of pants when I was about 11 and I have made a few old-fashioned doll dresses for my doll named Georgiana (named for Georgiana Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.) The doll dresses are made from the patterns sold on a website called
Sense and Sensibility. There are time period dresses for children and ladies on that website as well. I hope to make several of those for myself when I am more experienced!

I am not sure what color fabric my sister’s dress will be but I think I want it to be yellow, pink or blue. Probably blue because that color brings out her beautiful blue eyes so well.

When I am done I plan to post a picture of the dress.
