Apologies and Q&A

Posted on Nov. 24, 2007 at 4:35 PM

- - -

First of all I would like to apologize especially to Rachel, Jocelyn, Arya, Sylvia, Rose (from Rellamom) and anyone else who I have seemingly ignored for not returning comments. Our family’s DSL (our internet access) is broken and works so very slowly that I have great difficulty opening any blogs from HSB. I thank you all for your comments and please know that I am not ignoring you.

Q&A:
After my last post I was asked a few follow up questions. First I received the following question from Sylvia: “It was good to read your answer to Mary. I have another question to add: do you plan on doing distance learning to earn a college degree?” then this one from Amanda: “I like your answer to Mary too!! I was wondering what you will be doing for college also. I would like to take some classes at the local college here. What do you plan to do if anything!!”

Well the answer is no I have no plans to do distance learning to earn a college degree.  I have no reason to earn a college degree and therefore do not plan to do so.  After I graduate I plan to continue to study at home. I will be doing a lot of reading and writing. Maybe some more Science for fun. Hopefully I will be studying languages too. I would love to learn Hebrew and Greek as well as Spanish and Sign Language. More importantly then these I will plan to learn to be a Keeper At Home so that someday LORD willing I will be a good helpmeet to the man the LORD brings me. Most importantly however after I graduate I hope to study God’s Word even more than I do now and learn to know HIM better as a result.

To the LORD be all glory, honor and praise!

Rewritten History?

Posted on Sep. 18, 2007 at 4:15 PM

- - -

I like to read Mr. Doug Phillips blog on the Vision Forum website. I have learned much from what I have read there. In the first half of this year, much of what he was writing was about our nations history and what our nation is now considering our nations history. It set me to thinking:

It is a sad day when our nation rejects God’s hand as a blessing in our history. When they call the early settlers “invaders”. When they say that Pocahontas was forced to become a Christian and was actually murdered! (That is not all they say about her.) When they call Captain John Smith (a true Christian) a liar. It is sad that all these things are happening, but they are true. When all these happen one begins to ask “why”.

Why are they making up these horrible stories? Why are they trying to rewrite history? I think it is because they want to get rid of the memory of God in history as much as possible.

They have already done their best to take the LORD’s hand out of the beginning of the earth and our creation. Now they want to take His hand out of our nations history as well. Our country does not want to admit that an omnipotent God exists. If they can rewrite history without Him, they will feel more comfortable. They will not be confronted with what the LORD has done if they erase it from the history books.

Our nation needs prayer. Our world needs prayer. We as Christians must pray for our fellow man and not only must we pray - we must shine. We must be a “light” to “the world.” We must be like the city on the hill that “cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14) We must shine for our King. We must show the world that He does exist. He created our world and us. He does have a hand in history. He created history. History is His Story!

Praise the LORD for what He has done in HIS-story!

One more time...

Posted on Jan. 19, 2007 at 2:33 PM

- - -

I wrote a post a few minutes ago, but when I tried to publish it I lost it!

Oh, well.

I was writing about how much I love rain. It has been raining all day and on top of that it is VERY cold. It is in the lower to middle 40's. It is so wet and cold our dog does not even like it - he has not tried to go outside to play at all today!

Sometimes when it is raining, I think about the flood of Noah. Though I love rain, thunder and lightning, I can imagine how dreadful it would have been to the people outside of the ark on that day.

Great flashes from the sky, the earth trembling as the fountains of the great deep erupted, thunder blasting through the air like the sound of a trumpet... Those outdoors must have ran home in terror. Those at home may have run outside.

As the flood waters started to rise, perhaps they ran to the hills, or crawled onto the roofs of their houses. It must have been a dreadful time!

Then I wonder what it was like to be in the ark. The crashes of thunder must have been magnified or perhaps it was built in such a way that instead they were quieter? As the waters rose and the boat swayed back and forth - or perhaps the boat was so big that it barely moved. It must have been an interesting experience and yet sad at the same time as the rest of the population -  humans and beasts - perished under the waters.

How blessed Noah and his family must have felt that God chose them to survive the flood!

Just thought I would share my thoughts...

Rebekah ~ The Lord's Daughter

P.S. It is raining pretty hard right now!

A Testimony

Posted on Oct. 13, 2006 at 6:32 PM

- - -

I wanted to share a recent experience of mine. A few months ago, a great change came for me and I wanted to tell about it.

For some time I had been struggling as a Christian. My relationship with God was not very intimate and I did not often pray very earnestly unless I wanted something. I would ask God to forgive me for my sins, but did not make much of an effort to not sin again. I behaved as if I could do whatever I wanted as long as I asked God to forgive me later. This is not exactly what I thought, but that is how I acted.

I believe I was a Christian. I did occasionally have some very earnest prayers, but I was a very corrupt and ungodly Christian. I also know I had a not so good affect on my three younger sisters. Without realizing it, they were getting bad habits from watching me. I thought that they should be able to take care of their own actions. I did not realize what an unbounded influence and great responsibility an older sibling has towards its younger siblings. I did not really care either.

As time went on, I kept living in this manner. I had serious thoughts now and then and even resolved to change my behavior at times. It would last a very short while, and then I would go back to the old way of living. I was quite unhappy. I could not feel at peace.

In May of this year, we started attending a new church. The first sermon seemed to speak to me. The Pastor spoke of having “form” in the Christian life, but having no “substance” with it. Without the “substance”, the form is no good. He gave an illustration of a coffee can made into a candleholder. You could punch a beautiful design on the outside of it and that would be the “form”. However, unless you put a lit candle inside of it (the “substance”) the “form” wouldn’t do any one any good.

I began to question how much “substance” I had. After the second sermon I heard, in which he spoke some more about “form” and “substance” along with other things, I began to realize how wayward I had become. I did not even have much “form” to speak of, much less any substance. I began to really pray that God would help me. I began to pay more attention to what God says in the Bible, but still I did not change very much.

One day I was feeling very miserable about my life. I was not sure what to do so I just cried out to God to help me. I reached for my Bible, which was near by and began to flip through it. My hand felt as though it was guided by some strange power and my eyes guided by the same. Each verse I read was for me. A few in particular I felt so much that I marked them in my Bible, a thing I rarely do.

Since that time, I have felt nearer to God. He is my Father and my very best Friend. I can tell Him everything. I can talk to Him at all times, about any and everything. I have a joy and peace that was never mine before in my memory.

It is for God’s glory that I write this. May He be glorified in this writing. Praise His holy name!

Weather and a Verse

Summer is here! The temperature is in the 100’s and the humidity makes it feel hotter! The clouds overhead make it shadier everywhere, but it is still hot! I like Summer, I am fond of Spring, I enjoy Winter, but I LOVE Fall! Fall is my favorite season and just think - its only a couple of months away!

We are expecting thunder storms today it looks like. I hope they come. I love thunder storms and rain! I am sooooo glad God created rainy days as well as sunny days!!!

"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."  Matthew 5:44-45
