Aug. 26, 2008 - The Fair is Over and No more Job and more

We officially made it through this. The fair is this weekend but all the judging was finished last week. We are excited to go to the fair this weekend and see all the projects.

For the past year, I have been working a part-time job. We have talked for awhile about me quitting this job but this last week, my schedule was changed on me and just will not work so the decision was made for me. I guess it's back to being frugal and cutting coupons, oh that's right already do that. This will take faith because of our thin budget but I am looking foward to a more open schedule to have more time for recreation or should I say cleaning.

Ten years old? My daughter is going to be ten and we want to mark this day a special one. Problem is a tight budget and lack of ideas. Any suggestions for a birthday party theme?

Aug. 28, 2008 - Party Ideas

Posted by jsgay97

Not knowing your daughter, it's hard to make suggestions, but here are a few ideas.

General themes are usually the cheapest because you can use a lot of what you have (table cloths, basic balloons, stuffed animals, etc) to decorate. If she really wants a "famous" theme where you'd need to buy licensed decorations, you can usually cut down on what you need to buy and use your own stuff that matches the color scheme of the licensed stuff.

This time of year a Hawaiian or beach theme would be easy to do. You could find a lot of decorations and party favors on sale at the party shops. Bake a coconut cake, grill some dogs, cut up a pineapple or two, and you're set. You could even make "Nada-coladas" (non-alcoholic pina coladas), and Limbo and "hula" hooping might work as games.

Well, I hope that helped some.

Did you have that party yet? Any theme that she is interested in would be a great place to start. You can do a great party for minimal price.....

Glad your schedule has opened up, even with the lack of extra money coming in -- God is good and He will supply! Jehovah-Jirah!

Sep. 11, 2008 - I'm a bit late

I've been behind on blogs, so don't know if you even need ideas any more for parties, but, you could make your own pinatas, one year we made a whole series of planets and hung them from a tree in the yard. I share that because I just shared it on another blog comment, it was a lot of fun and was inexpensive. An animal theme could be fun, if you have a lot of stuffed animals you can scatter them everywhere for decorations rather than spending extra money. Print coloring sheets cheaply and have the kids color their own placemats and such, this can become an activity as well as the usefulness of the placemat. You could do the same with party hats: cut paper strips for decorations on hats, make simple cone hats yourself before the party, and allow the kids to marker on them to decorate. Without knowing more about your daughter, I'm at a loss. I hope you have a blast!! Or already did. :-) Hugs!!
