Hitch

Posted in Movie Reviews

My husband and I just recently watched this movie on DVD for the first time and we loved it! It was so funny and we liked the character of Hitch (Will Smith). I liked it because it was quirky. No one took their clothes off either (that's a big plus for us)!!!! The movie looks at how people hook up and what makes them stay together. There were two times in the movie that I thought Hitch would get in trouble because of the compromising positions (they were really silly) he found himself in while trying to help Albert (Kevin James), but it didn't happen. After seeing the movie I looked at an extra on the DVD and saw that the writers had involved psychologists so that the characters acted like typical men and women. I remember one scene where Hitch's love interest was mad at him but didn't tell him exactly what she was mad at until the next day. I thought, that's very true to how typical women act in a relationship. All in all, it was a very tasteful movie. I really liked it and recommend it as a date pick.

Brown Sugar

This is my favorite relationship movie of all time (so far). Sidney (Sanaa Lathan) presents the picture of what I want to be as a wife (as far as reverencing is concerned). She loved Andre (Taye Diggs) for who he was. The contrast with how his wife, Reece (Nicole Ari Parker), loved him and how Sidney loved him is striking, to say the least. Her love was simple. She believed in Dre and all of his ideas. She was his loudest and only cheerleader. That's a lesson I need to learn. We as wives should be our husband's loudest and, sometimes, single cheerleader. The story and plot line are great also. I loved all the African-American stars you get to see in this movie and the old school music you hear. Brings me back (especially since I'm from NYC). I highly recommend this as a date movie too.

Out The Box - The Movie

Posted in Movie Reviews

Studio: BMG Distrbuting
Release Date: 2004-08-01
Length: 120 minutes
Genre: Christian/Music
Recommended: Yes
Score: 10 out of 10
Summary: Extremely satisfying
ISBN: B00067BBZK

This movie is very satisfying because there are some things on the Out The Box CD that you hear but you know you're missing out on because you can't see what's going on. The taping of the live recording was great. All of the added special effects are very interesting. It seems like it's his first time so he's trying out different things because he hasn't found what works for him yet. One thing that does work for him are his dance moves. You'll see he resembles Michael Jackson and actually does the move from the Jackson Five's dancing machine on his song "Alive". If you remember Sheila E. from the worldly music scene in the 80's you get to see her tear up the drums and her sticks (she goes through at least two new sticks while she's playing) on Todos Juntos. His wife (Ms. Tonex) is also in the movie and there's a whole section dedicated to their love (it's so sweet). All in all, he just has a good time with the talent that God gifted him with. I'm looking forward to other movies from him in the future.

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl

Posted in Movie Reviews

Studio: Walt Disney
Release Date: 2003-07-09
Length: 120 minutes
Genre: Action & Adventure/Swashbucklers
Recommended: No
Score: 10 out of 10
Summary: Johnny Depp!!!!!!!

This movie is one of my all time favorites. I really like Jhonny Depp's acting performance in this movie. His quirky moves are perfect! He brings his character (Captain Jack) to life...as he does in most of his movies...

Anyway, Orlando Bloom was good too. He was a great sidekick for Johnny (might get offended if he heard me say that, but anyway...). Keira Knightley played a good part too. I love her line, "Bloody pirates!" Hilarious!

The plot took me a few times seeing it to get. I was intrigued by the promos. That's why I saw it. I'm so glad I did. I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel!

Oh yeah, I didn't recommend this movie because I've talked with other Christian friends who can't take the evil implications. It obviously doesn't bother me, but I don't want to get anyone else in trouble. I would recommend it only because I don't remember any cursing in it. That's so refreshing. Cursing just hits me like a slap in the face.

Ocean's Twelve

Studio: Warner Home Video
Release Date: 2005-04-12
Length: 125 minutes
Genre: Mystery & Suspense/Crime

Score: 8 out of 10
Summary: Loved the intrigue!

After Ocean's Eleven I had to see this movie. I love the suspense and drama. I wouldn't recommend this movie because different people have different tastes and it's not a must see. I just loved it because of all the slight-of-hand action that goes on. I thought it was cool. The question I was left with after watching it the first time was, "So when did they do it?" After you see the movie you'll know exactly why I asked that. It's fun to try to figure out. It's great for an addition to your DVD library. This one may require many times of re-watching to figure out.

Letter Factory - Leapfrog

Studio: Warner Video
Release Date: 2003-01-01
Length: 35 minutes
Genre: Kids & Family/Educational
Recommended: Yes
Score: 10 out of 10
Summary: Learning fun!
ISBN: 0-7907-8894-2

This is a wonderful video program that reinforces (and can even teach outright) letter sounds. They don't do double sounds (like for "C" and the vowels), they rather focus on the harder sounds including short vowel sounds. My kids love this and ask for it constantly. My husband even commented on how good it was. I'm using this one as a supplement and review of the letter sounds for the kids. It's by the Leap Frog company. I'm starting to realize most products from the Leap Frog company are done very well and are completely educational as well as entertaining. There is also a word building and math video that I want to get. I highly recommend this!
