The Old Sschoolhouse Magazine, Summer '07 - Homeschooling and American Heritage Girls

Posted in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

I'm so glad for this article! I have been looking over AHG for a few months now. My daughter is a social butterfly (takes after her Mama) and loves having the interaction with other children. We are unlike most home schooling families in that we don't get out much. Yes, she plays with the neighbor children, but it's not everyday. We also attend our church where she interacts with the other children, but that's sometimey too. I know my daughter longs for more. She loves being with her family, but I also know that she would love to do something on a more regular basis with others outside her family.

I love the idea of like-minded children of various ages getting together and working for common goals. When my daughter was younger I could tell she would be a follower and thanked God that He had already steered us to home schooling. I wouldn't have to worry about what crowd she's trying to gain acceptance into. After about two years of home schooling she is proving herself to be quite the leader. I've seen her take the high road and do the right thing when she doesn't see anyone watching. This encourages me that there's a godly character growing in her heart. I'd like to reward her with the thing she greatly desires. There's a troop near us based in a Christian school. This article just confirms in my heart that bringing her there would be a blessing and contribution to her godly character development.

TOS gift #18

I've been waiting for this and wondered when it would come. I didn't take into account that magazines print every two months.

My first edition of TEACH magazine arrived yesterday and I have lookd through the articles. It has touched my heart as an endearing magazine of great worth, but it's not like I'm dying to get it. Some articles really spoke to my heart, but others weren't applicable to me. I'm glad I have it to look through for six months. Their resources are great. I would love to purchase most everything they have. I'm interested in their back issues as well.

TOS gift #17

I have finally received my $10 gift certificate to Family Christian Stores! I am so happy. I love shopping for things of quality to give my children. I don't think I'll opt for another video (since we've cut down T.V. they barely watch them anyway). I'm leaning more towards a good book. I do have my list of books that I've wanted to get for them... I just hope they're under $10...

I'm just receiving my 13th gift from the Old Schoolhouse subscription bonus. I was given a flyer for homeschoolradiohows.com All-Time Favorite Living Books sampler CD. I'm just realizing the worth of this gift. I can play these radio segments of classic books on my media player and then copy them to a CD. I can play it as my oldest goes to sleep for her nap (thery're only 29 mins. long) and not interrupt her too much! I was so concerned about them listening to the story and not falling asleep until the story was over. This is a wonderful gift and again I am so very thankful to TOS for the chance to be exposed to all these wonderful products. I don't know if I'd ever have found all these on my own. TOS you're the best!

I recently received my Quick Study study guides and am so happy with them! They gave me a math and english study guide along with a kitchen conersion chart! With me being a graduate of the public schools I find I need to use that quick study chart quite often. I had been using the chart in the back of my cookbook, but now I can just whip this out! It's laminated so I don't have to worry about spills either! What a wonderful product!

This is the gift from Marmee's Kitchen. It's a nice poster that you can hanf up in your dining room near the table. It lists 12 table manners. The font is cursive so I'll probably have to read it to my children, but it looks wonderful as a display. Now all I have to do is find a nice frame to go around it and I'll be set!

There's been a little lull in the receiving of my gifts. I was wondering if nothing else was coming when I received my Rod and Staff sample books and catalog yesterday. I have heard much about Rod and Staff and wanted to know their foundation. They're Christian, but they're Mennonite. I don't even know what the difference is.  I looked through their catalog and saw lots of things that interested me (like books that encouraged you towards holiness). Their curriculum seemed to be mostly geard towards Sunday school teachings or Christian school settings. I konw you can use them in your home too. The emphasis of the curriculum seems to be workbook style which is not right up my alley. I do like some of their preschool books and might get them, but won't be teaching it throughout the years.

I didn't know what to expect with this gift. The card said I would get a set of P.B. Bear books from Family Books At Home. I'm so glad I have these. My daughter loves them! She wants me to read them to her over and over again. She likes the kite one and is very good at finding the little bear in each picture. The book is easy to read but not silly. It's good for her age and I'm excited for her to start reading it to herself. These books are top quality!

God Save The Queen & Mr. Steady

Posted in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

I read these articles and just sighed. I've wanted to read that book even before it came out. Every opportunity for me to receive it hasn't worked out. I guess it's just not my season to receive it yet. My husband keeps telling me to just read the Bible. =) I love that man....

Anyway, these two articles are hard for a lot of women to swallow and receive. I hear that those people who are starkly against it are mainly feminists (who only care about their rights. Don't ever mention to them, by the way, that those that are saved are bought with a price and have no rights but to please the Father that made them. They might start hitting you or something). It takes much humility to conform, period. To bring yourself under someone else's authority is extremely humbling. Most women remember the history and the abuse that some women with this mentality endured and they end up hating the theology that they, falsely, think caused it. It's not the theology that's wrong, it's the devil that's wrong. Those that buck this message of complete submission under their husband's rule are sorely missing their blessing from God. If anyone would just trust God and see with their eyes of faith I am convinced that He will deliver them out of any and every situation that isn't like Him. Those that buck are the people that try to fix it their own selves because they think waiting and trusting in God won't work. I rebuke the devil in Jesus' name! That's a spirit of unbelief. The Word (which will never pass away) says my God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6). That means He will answer you when you seek Him for a particular thing, Notice that it's not when we seek Him one day and then decide it's not working that He will reward us. Nor is it when we've been seeking Him for a week or even a whole month and we decide it's not working that He rewards us. It's only after diligent seeking. That means seeking and seeking and seeking....until you get it. Who actually does that? Those that are righteous. Those that are pure in heart and humble in spiritdiligently seek God. They receive the rewards of God. I sincerely believe that the answer to all of our questions are found in humbling ourselves before God. There's no other answer than to seek God. He will reward you. He knows what you're going through. His Word says He'll give us good gifts (Matt. 7:11; Luke 11:13). Bottom line is if you love yourself more than God you'll never be able to follow His commands.
