Heart Shall Be Bolder

• Oct. 20, 2006 - Battle of the minds*

*Assuming that you qualify my fuzzy thinking as a 'mind', which certain people highly doubt.

In some senses, most of what we do in our interpersonal relationships is inherently political by definition/nature. To argue against something being political/politicized has always seemed to me to be silly. This is the playing field! These are the rules! If you don’t like how the game is playing out – either play better than everyone else or get the field/rules changed. Or … create something new that everyone else has to react to – which is what homeschoolers have done, I suppose.

Whatcha think?  We're talking about representation of homeschoolers - Christian and/vs secular - over here: http://www.cronje.ca/article/76/homeschooling-dads---new-target-of-the-rightwing-fringe

Other, regularly scheduled posts will be forthcoming, whenever I feel like getting around to it.

Interesting little debate going on there. I started skimming quite a bit near the end, but it's interesting to me because he used quite a few "Relativist" arguments (all his stuff about pre-judging: how can you NOT judge what people do? It's impossible!) I would maybe suggest to you to get on the same page with him as far as: are you both using the word 'judge' the same way? That might clarify issues. Does this man even have a clear view between the different of judging in passing a judgement upon someone while having a critical spirit, or passing judgement upon someone's actions using critical analysis (see how critical can be used different ways too!) :-)

Also, he seems to distrust anything that has to do with politics or the government (those dirty rascals):-) organized movements in general, or anything that has criteria. (very American: I'm going to do it my own way!) You may have to work on bridging that (pointing out not all organization is evil, not all politicians are evil, not all political movements are evil?) I know this type of thinking well, after all my fiance has these tendencies:-D (can you imagine the *fun* discussions

That was me your not-so-local homeschooler-who-now-works-for-the-government:-) - Alexandra

Bignut: perhaps you could answer my questions as well? I just noticed that it seemed that you and Thor were using the word "judge" differently

(as you can see one of my pet peeves is using the word judge so that everyone has to hold a Relativist worldview! Ack!) If that IS your worldview I bet that's the crux of the differences of opinion in this discussion!

Also, it might not be so that you seem to inherently distrust organized movements and politics, but it did seem so to me. I was a psychology major though, so sometimes I overanalyze. I can tell you from personal experience that a lot of people in politics are dirty rascals - but not all of them! (Usually not even a majority of them.) This could be different on a national level, (I work for a state House of Representatives) but I have met at least one or two politicians on the national level that are pretty good people. Also, there are some good political organizations and some bad ones.

Alexa,

Big Nut is a Canadian, fyi.

He and I have, to a limited degree, come up with a semi-mutual understanding of judging. At least enough that we're hopefully arguing about content rather than packaging at this point. Insofar as we keep arguing about that.

How many days until the wedding?

Hi Alexandra,

I have answered your questions in the comments of my blog-entry, to prevent a fragmentation of this discussion.

See http://www.cronje.ca/article/76" . I hope that works out OK. Feel free to join in!
