Dh and I decided that we had to get out of our house and take advantage of the beautiful surroundings before the snow comes in again and closes the roads up a little to the south of us. We also like to have a "family fun night" every weekend, so we combined the two and headed up the road a couple of miles to some nice picnic and hiking areas.
We arrived around 11:30, so we started off with a little campfire, hotdogs and s'mores. It was so nice outside, and the food was delicious!
This was a nearby view!
Then we drove on up the road to the trail-head, where we took the above and following pictures. It started to rain so we didn't get to hike, but we drove around some more, then came home for Elly's nap.
I wrote a big post a couple of nights ago and when I went to post it, it got lost in cyberspace. I didn't have the energy to start again! We are really enjoying our new house. I got all of the pics hung, so as soon as I straighten it up again, I can take pics to post. Dh helped me clean the deck too.
The girls are enjoying school much more this year, but we're usually ready for the weekend when it comes. That is probably a sign that I'm doing too much! I'm reading Charlotte Mason's book on Home Education, and hopefully that will help me focus on what is really important. So far it has been mainly about making sure the kids get enough fresh air and good food! I can't wait to get into the other stuff. Unfortunately I'm usually wiped out by bedtime so I fall asleep trying to read!
We have hummingbirds around these days so much that they clean out two feeders everyday! I am having trouble keeping the feeders full enough, but they are fun to have around. Last year we didn't have very many winter birds - maybe we're too high in the mountains, so I like to enjoy all the birds while I can.
Well, I want to read some other folks' blogs, so I will post this one now.
so excited about our trip in October !!! I can't wait to see it for my very own self. (0: You take the best pics ! I am glad you liked my story about meeting Handsome. That is my most favorite story to tell. lol. God Bless my SSiC.
In Him,
The scenery is so beautiful! One thing that I love dearly about the Rockies is all those 'arrows' (trees) pointing straight to God. You can't help but have your focus drawn upwards....it's all around you. It makes me think about how much the creation points to the Creator. Sometimes quite literally!
How nice to have such beautiful nature so close! Sounds like a fun day.
Chandler goes full days, everyday. Me and Robin do miss them but it's nice to know you're being obedient to God's call, ya know.
Jaci wasn't sure what a pen pal was but then told me she would like to do that. Were you thinking email or "snail mail"? Either way is fine with us.
Oh, I really like your new avatar picture - what a beautiful bunch of women!
It is absolutely gorgeous. Now I remember why Colorado is one of our very favorite places to visit. Our kids' first camping trips were in Colorado at very young ages...9 months old for our oldest son, and dd was 4 months old when we first took her! We snuggled in under down sleeping bags. I think our next two boys were a little older than that when we first took them to CO.
We have not gotten to visit in three years now, opting for Norhtern New Mexico instead (for various reasons...visiting extended family being one of them).
I just love the mountains. Our praries and even the desert has its own charms, but I love the mountains.
Enjoy CM as much as you can. If you need some ideas for shortcuts, you can look up a topic in the indexes in the backs of the volumes, if you are wanting quick and specific quotes or info. Vol. 1 tends to be for the youngest grades, vol. three goes through Jr. High ages, and Vol. 6 covers through the high school years. It has info on the younger years, but also through high school. Another benefit of Vol. 6 is that it was written toward the end of her life, after years of putting all her methodologies and philosophy to the test.
One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord.
This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (11, 9 and 4) and a two year old son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek and serve God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
