Well, on the advice of one of my friends here, I've learned that to cook at this altitude (8600 ft), I should add 1/2 more flour than the recipe calls for, and decrease the leavening (baking soda or baking powder by half). Yesterday the girls and I made some lemon-blackberry muffins (see in picture below) and today I made some peanutbutter-chocolate chip cookies. They both turned out great! I did have to add a little more milk to my muffin recipe, but it still turned out wonderful!
Below you will see our morning tea (it has become a daily ritual, and the girls will put on dress-ups whenever they get the chance).
We made the muffins yesterday, and the tea is actually hot chocolate (sigh). 3dd2 loves tea, but for our pretend parties, they always want cocoa!
This next shot is the muffins close-up:
The muffins really are huge. You can't appreciate it as well in the pictures.
This last one is my oldest and youngest dds waiting for their sister to come to have tea:
I hope you all are having as good a day as we have had!
My girls love to dress up and having a tea party is just the best in their eyes. :-) Glad you figured out the cooking at high altitude. I wouldn't have a clue having lived at sea level all my life.
You might not remember me, as I've not been in touch for awhile--we just did the DTS in MT as a family, and we live in Germany. I just checked your blog for the first time in months, excited about having free internet access for the first time in months. :-) I desparately need to update my blog, but I can't seem to remember my password--might get that straighted out today. After two months in Thailand, one week back at the base in Montana, and two weeks in Peru, we're in the U.S. again for one week, with friends, and head home for Germany next Sunday. All we know for sure is that the children are NOT going back to school, still working on the legal details...
Anyway, I'd like to keep in touch with you, and will at least continue to follow your blog, especially when I'm back home.
What a great looking tea party. How fun. The muffins look delicous!!
I remember doing that with my girls when they were younger. Now we go get flavored coffee on special occasions together ( well me coffee, them fun cold drinks.)
One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord.
This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (10, 9 and 4) and a toddler son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
