We got our box of Sonlight books for reading for 1dd9 (aka Mountain Princess) and 2dd8 (aka Snow Crystal). I put the books together in the order of their schedules.
These books will be Mountain Princess's reading for her language arts. This will by no means be exhaustive. These will be the ones I will assign her. She devours many more books each day! Lately she's been reading the Magic Treehouse books. It takes her about a half hour to read a whole book! She reads all of her sister's books too.
This next picture is the collection of books that 2dd8 will be reading for her second grade year. She's on the second one already. Sonlight recommended a couple more that I didn't order because they didn't seem to be right for us. She is a budding reader, and I'm proud of how far she improved over the last year.
This year I am covering each of the paperback books with contact paper for book covers. It works great and helps to make the books last much longer.
We are doing MFW however I still use sonlight readers and read alouds. We did these exact readers last year, my son loved them-you will have a great year.
I did Sonlight for years. Some of those books for MP look so familiar. I kept my stuff and now MY DD is using them for her DS1 (3rd grade). Oh, happy Sonlight days--read alouds, especially. Although I must admit, there are a few duds in the Read-aloud department. Sometimes those Newberry Honor books are more trouble than they're worth. LOL
Now I'm off to homesteadblogger to see the root cellar. I'm FarmWife there.
Wow! That's a LOT of neat books. We have several of those on our shelves or baskets :) For some reason, I thought you were a MFW user....hehe! I'm mixing up people!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Those are some great books!
Julie is a HUGE fan of The Magic Tree House, too! ;-)
Also, I cover many of our books in contact paper - especially teacher's guides that are just 'paperbacks'. They'll never make it through me teaching all 4 otherwise!
I like clear contact too. It absolutely increases the life of the book.
It looks like you have a winter by the fire all planned out.

ooo we love books here too, looks like alot of good ones there!
To answer your question about who did all the research for the genealogy info... alot of it we knew already just from conversations with grandparents. When the first part matched "4 brothers came over on the boat" then we started asking more questions.
My husband and Sally each knew of the relations each was talking about from the area, and knew which aunt/uncle the cousins were from so then it was rather easy. My MIL has a framed paper of the documents for passage on the ship. The history before that time would be harder to find :)
That looks like a lot of great books! My ds1 is a voracious reader as well. He enjoys the Magic Tree House books and is waiting (impatiently) on the newest to come in at the library (we're on the waiting list).
You had asked in a comment on my blog about where we would be going in GA and when. We were fortunate to be able to purchase 11.4 acres earlier this year in a teeny little town in northeastern GA, somewhat near the SC border. We will not be able to move until we finish remodeling our current home AND the housing market here (sales of existing homes) picks back up. The latter was being predicted at about a year and now realtors are saying it could take up to 5 years.

I need to check out Sonlight's catalog for some ideas for readers for my 9yo. He suprised me the last couple of weeks and has been reading whole books in one day, which I didn't expect from him. So I'm running out of books! Thanks for sharing and giving me the idea!
Great S&T Carol! We just love box day to *grin* K is really into the magic tree house books as well and can devour them in a matter of minutes it seems like! I just found out that there is a canadian series similar but they ride on a sled and it takes them on a journey and it is actual canadian history in it so that should be fun : )
Blessings,
Rosina
Your DDs are going to be very busy this year! Books are wonderful educators and it looks like your selection will help grow their minds.
Blessings,
Mama K
One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord.
This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (10, 9 and 4) and a toddler son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
