These are two Mennonite Cookbooks that I wanted to share. The top one is my very well-used copy of More-with-Less that I got for a wedding gift. I had an even more used one before that that I had taken with me to Europe when I was a young lady. This cookbook is awesome because it cooks without the extra sugar, and uses all natural ingredients. I can cook many things from scratch using it. It came in handy to make salad dressings and other things that I couldn't buy in Europe in the early 90's. Sometimes my dh brings it over to the base kitchen, and I can't find it...boy does he hear it!
This next one was sent to us from a man who visited with my husband while he was the program director at Camp MennoHaven in Tiskilwa, Illinois. He came across this cookbook and sent it to us out of the blue. It was published in the 1950's and has all sorts of traditional Mennonite foods in it. I used it last week, and will probably be using it much more. I also appreciate that it uses natural ingredients (as opposed to "a can of this" or other prepackaged foods.
I don't think I've ever seen a copy of the More-with-Less cookbook. I believe it's one our library system here does not have. I bet the Mennonite cookbook is great. I enjoy looking through ones I find at the library.
Those look wonderful!
DH's company prints cookbooks and once in awhile they will have a booksale for the employees where all books are $2. My first couple of times I came home with armloads full of cookbooks, and now DH has 'forbid' me from getting anymore cookbooks because I think I filled up an entire bookcase with them! (The worst part is...I'm STILL an awful cook - lol!)
I have the first one ! I will have to look for the second one now. [0= I am always looking for books that don't use a can of this and a package of that. That would be a treasure to have. YOu are blessed. Thank you for sharing this. I really enjoyed this.
Thank you for sharing, I am going to look for these at the local bookstore next time I am there! This is just the thing I have been looking for.

I saw your comment about Sukkahs at Tamara's blog and thought I would give you the scriptures for it. Leviticus 23:33:44 Explains the ned to make "Booths" or Sukkahs. Nehemiah 8:13-17 shows how great the joy of the people was as they discovered the Word of the Lord that had been hidden from them so long ago.
Verse 17 is one of my favorites, it ends And their Joy was great.
Hope this helps.
I love your ccokbooks. That is a great Show and Tell.
I have the Mennonite Treasury Cookbook (my parents' families are all Mennonite) which must be very similar to the second one - I LOVE it!!! I have marked the recipes in it that my Grandma used. I recently asked my aunts for their copy of the More with Less Cookbook, because I know they have it and don't use it any more. What a great show & tell!!! You will have to share which recipes are your favorites, and we'll compare notes! ;~)
Thanks for sharing this. I have the More-with-Less Cookbook, but mine is in perfect new condition because I have never used it - good intentions. Do you have any favorite recipes that you use a lot from it? I pulled my copy out and yes, I need make something from it. And the second book I just looked up and see I can get it on Amazon. Hmmm...I wonder if I should get it? lol
One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord.
This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (12, 10 and 5) and a three year old son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek and serve God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
