Saturday Update 11-3-07

This is an early Monday Meanderings, as I know I won't be able to meander in blogland after I go home from work today due to computer problems at home.

I thought for my Monday Meanderings (which are usually done on Sunday anyway!) I am going to do a week in review as well as planning for my next week.

Bible Study/ Devotions ~ I've been studying the book of John with the girls for morning Bible time.  I am also feeling challenged by the Lord to start having my own times with him again.  I haven't figured out what to do consistently though.  I have the challenge of trying to get up without my two little ones hearing me and thinking they have to come get up too!

"Must Do"~   I have a few dresses and blouses that the bottom hem has come out of that I need to repair.  Didn't get to it.  I can't think of anything else that has got to be done pronto!

Home Blessing~ I still need to go through old clothes to send to India and Thailand with the DTS group that is going there in December.  I didn't do much housekeeping this week except keeping up with the laundry and dishes.  DH put in some new kitchen cabinets - very nice!  Now I just need to wait for the Lord to provide some more money so we can get a new counter top to go over them!

Train Them Up~ I can't think of anything special in this area.

Homeschooling Plans~ We're on about our 14th week of homeschooling this week.  In Bible time we've been memorizing some scriptures from Romans (1:16, 3:23-24, 5:8 plus added Romans 6:23 and 8:28).  We  may add one or two more this week too.  We are slowly reading John for the Bible class the girls are in on Sundays.  We've also been reading a little out of the Egermeier's Story Bible - both old and new testaments.

In History we have about 3 lessons left to do, but they have lots of activities with them, so I think they will take another 2-3 weeks to complete. In bedtime reading we are still reading The Secret of the Andes.  So far it is still keeping our attention.

Math is going well for 1dd10 as she made our way through her green Miquon book (2-4 lessons/day).   2dd8 started Shiller Math and it has gone very well.  We started on exercise 52 and went through 100.  They are very easy for her, so we are whizzing through it, but I feel it is giving her a good foundation and fun with it before we catch up to the "harder" stuff.  I figure at the rate of 30 minutes a day she will continue to do 10-15 activities a day and get through this first book by December or by Christmas at the latest.  Then we will move to the second book and see how she does and set the pace the same - 30 minutes a day - and see how much she can get done.  I've also decided to do the same length of time with 1dd10, because she often whizzes through her two-four pages, and she might as well do more so she can get caught up.

We are loving the new spelling program (Sequential Spelling).  We are up to list 30 now.

Mountain Princess's reading list has included about six Magic Treehouse books a week in her free reading,  and finished Pocahantas and the Strangers.  This week she starts a book about Squanto.  Snow Crystal is still working on The Secret Valley.  Mountain Princess is doing Sonlight Language Arts level 3 and she just finished week 7.  She also does Susan Marlow's Writing Workshop  (I highly recommend this if you have a child who likes to write stories).  Snow Crystal is doing Sonlight LA grade 2 and she just finished week 7 as well.  She also does Explode the Code book 5, and Handwriting Without Tears cursive handwriting.

We didn't do much science this week.

Dora Lover (3dd3) I think I am going to try to do a Five in a Row week with her using How to make an Apple Pie and See the World.

What is Happening Ministry-wise:

This week we will have a speaker here from the Navajo nation for the DTS students by the name of Rod Wilson.  Please be praying for him and for the students that God's Word would be spoken and received.

Our current DTS is about half-way through its 3 month lecture phase.  This week they are in Estes Park, Colorado at a missions conference for the week.  They left this morning.  They just learned this week that they will be heading to Thailand and India in December for their 3 month outreach phase to complete their training.  They are a really good group of about eleven students from all over the country and also New Zealand.   Pray for them as they are trying to obtain visas, immunizations, and plane tickets over the next couple of weeks.

If you would like to participate simply add your link on  Mister Linky at Tiany's blog directing folks to your “Monday Meanderings” post!   Link back on your post so that others can join us and or read through everyone’s “Monday Meanderings”. This is for ALL Moms you do not have to be a Homeschooling Mom to participate!

Looks like a busy week! I, too, struggle with finding some time alone in the mornings w/out my youngest (3yo.) He just believes that if I am up he must be up too lol. We "rowed" How To Make An Apple Pie in FIAR a few weeks ago...yep, even my boys enjoyed it. We are going to try Cranberry Thanksgiving this week. Hope you have a wonderful week and your computer problems are fixed soon. Julie

Ooo! I am looking forward to hearing about your FIAR experience. We haven't read that particular book, but plan to yet this Fall. Are you going to be lapbooking, as well?

The book of John -- great book!! I think we will do that one in December.

Blessings, Beckie :o)

I am so glad you are feeling better. Life sure can get us in a funk sometimes. I try to stay so plugged in to the Lord, but suddenly it can just sneak up on me! We had a computer crash last weekend, too. Thankfully, my older girls had their laptops, but none of our programs, email addresses, anything is on there. We are also having a job crisis. So far, I am at peace, but I know I am always only one thought not taken captive away from losing it. I am so glad the Lord is always there patiently waiting on me.
Oh, my. I didn't mean for that to turn into sharing all my stuff, and my own personal mini sermon to myself!! : )

Shalom!
Sorry I haven't been around. I've just been keeping busy.
I wanted to let you know I've updated, and will hopefully continue steadily from now on!

Shalom,
Lois the SIMPLE

Hello

One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord. This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (10, 9 and 4) and a toddler son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
