I love resale shops! What one pays for something new in the right resale shop, you can get 5 or more of the same thing! We have this little shop that is in Ridgway, Colorado, that we always find great bargains at. For example, we went there on the first of March and found about 5 Disney movies for $3 each in very good condition. You can't buy one of these new for the same price I got all five of them for! You can't get them online for that price either - especially after you pay shipping for them! My dh found a fleece name-brand pull-over for about $2-3. He also got some cookbooks for about $2 each! I found some wooden stackable kitty-cats for about $3 - a great heirloom toy and it comes from Russia! I found a dress for dd10, and also some Merrill shoes for her ($2 each I think). It was an awesome trip, and worth it! Our local nearby town has several retail shops that I don't get quite the good prices, but I keep my kids in clothes this way, and, ya know, once you wash your own new clothes they become used too, right?!
I can't wait for June !!! I get to go shopping at some in Redmond Wa. I will be buying as much as I can for a years worth of clothes there. I look for the half price off tags and then what I can't my moms senior discount will help us. [0; My mom can spend a lot on us but this one area she helps us with. [0= I guess I will have to list what savings I get when I come back after the trip.
I love thrift stores. It seems mostly we buy books that way (just bought 2 this past weekend for ds1 at a thrift store we stopped by while we were in another town for a curriculum fair), but every now and then I will find some clothes for a great deal. I've also found plenty of other odds and ends over the years like housewares, crafts stuff, etc.
I love resale shops. The only good resale shop I have found since we moved is a book shop though. We get Cd's for 50 cents to $2. Books for $1-$5 and DVD's for $4. I need to find a good clothing resale shop. Better ask my friends.
I tihnk resale shops are the wave of the future. As more of us understand that money doesn't grow on trees, second hand or gently used items will become more in demand.
Blessings from Indiana,
Mama Karen
I am a resale shop addict! I love them, and I almost never buy anything new! My kids love them too, they already get that their money goes farther there!
Great tip!

I shop at resale shops to. Our store's here in town, I don't think are that great and their prices aren't that great either. I can sometimes find brand new items on the clearance rack for less but it does take a lot of time to shop like this. I am looking forward to garage sells to.
To answer your question - we live in Idaho.
Love buying used and at deep discounts!!! A while back a friend of mine took me to a basement store that sells all of Target's leftovers - it was in a nasty part of town, but a fun discovery. Amber got her Easter dress there for this Spring - nothing fancy, but white.
I do!!! We LOVE Goodwill, and we are fortunate that our town actually has 3 Goodwills!
It's funny because they have really changed the way I look at buying things for my family, though. I have a really hard time paying full price for any clothing now (except socks/underwear) because I *know* I could find it cheaper at Goodwill.
I won't even look at the clearance racks in stores anymore - because even $10 for a shirt seems outrageous to me - and I am NOT going to pay more than $7 for a pair of jeans!
(It makes me feel really guilty if I DO spend more than $10 on a piece of clothing!)
The same goes for books, toys and housewares - although I was really sad to find out that Goodwill will no longer be carrying toys - because of all of the recalls. :-(
We love thrift store shopping. We don't get to go too often as we don't spend a lot of time in town, but we usually get good deals when we do. One of the second hand stores is kind of pricey, and it's hard to get just what you want, so I frequent the clearance racks too. Just the other day, Fred Meyer had additional 70% off the clearance price. I bought my daughter several tops for less then I usually pay at the second hand shop. They were about $4-5/item.
I think I will finish this as a post on my blog! Haha!
I'm literally allergic to shopping--the chemicals in new clothes make my throat itch and my nose and eyes run, and if I have to stay in a place like that for more than 10 or 15 minutes, I get a horrible headache, too. So I always thought I hated shopping, until discovering a thrift shop while in the U.S. two years ago. Not only am I not allergic to USED clothes, I found a lot more that I could stand style-wise, AND it was cheap, which I also loved!
I still don't like shopping and am grateful for the friend with two daughters who passed along everything to us and the friend with the son who does the same. :-) But thrift (or resale or whatever) shops do make shopping a little less painful, just that there aren't many in Germany...
One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord.
This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (10, 9 and 4) and a toddler son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
