Weekly Wrap-up

Our school time is going well.  I’ve been praying about what curriculum to use next year, and I feel the Lord gave me His answer taking me back to Sonlight.  I hope to be able to purchase our core program (3+4) soon since I would like to start the core history and geography to be able to spread it out over more than the usual 36 weeks to make it more gentle.  We will be continuing with our American History studies, using a Charlotte Mason approach – narration, dictation, short lessons, nature walks (when the weather permits), and so forth.  As I learn more about HOWTA, I hope to be able to mix in those things as the Lord leads.  I feel Sonlight offers a good mix of literature with a good Christian foundation from which I can disciple my children.  I love that the schedules are already made up, and that the kids love to learn from the books.  We will go back primarily with Singapore for math, with flash cards and games to help us get the math facts down better.  I miss the Sonlight Bible lessons and memory verse program.  We will try the Sonlight science again.  We will continue on in language arts from where they are now with Sonlight.  I am pleased to see that there will only be a couple of books that are overlapping with the core 3 readers we used this year.  Yea!  I hope to be able to continue the Time Traveler’s units that go along with this material and do notebooking too.  It will be a lot more to do than this year, for sure.  Electives I’d like to start are Rosetta Spanish, piano, and maybe art.  I guess I will have to figure out how to teach them piano myself until the Lord sends an experienced teacher to provide lessons.

This week I have been reading out of Egermeier’s Children’s Story Bible and am pleased with how much the girls remember from earlier passes through this material.  I ask the children to tell me what they remember from the lesson prior to the reading (step 1).  Next I read the passage while the girls draw about what they are hearing.  After the reading, I’ve been asking each girl to ask a question about the reading for her sister to answer, or I ask her to act out part of the story, or tell back what she heard.  They get their interest peaked with step one, gather information with step two and tell back what they’ve learned with step three.  They are learning, and I’m pleased with how it is going.

I only had to cook one meal this week.  We did honey mustard chicken in the crockpot, served with instand brown rice.  It turned out yummy!

My diet is going well.  I've lost 9 lbs so far in about 6 weeks.  I think it helps a large bit that I am doing the serious walking in the mornings, but I am disappointed that I feel like my tummy isn't shrinking much.  .  I'm hoping that eventually the weight loss will turn to that part of me.  My gluten intolerance is flaring up again, and so I need to get back to a gluten free diet.  That usually helps a lot in weight loss too.

As for the discipleship training school, the students are putting their things together to leave for Nepal on outreach soon.  God is doing a good thing, and I am very excited for them.  Pray for them as they travel next Tuesday!

Wow! IT sounds like you have it all planned out. I am leaning towards adding The story of the World to our studies for the littles but sticking with FIAR. However, Winter Promise really does look good although exspensive.

Sounds like you've got it mapped out pretty good :) We're going to continue with Sonlight as the core of our school materials because like you said I to love the schedule, abundance of great literature and bible focus. But we are enjoying the apologia science so I think we are going to stick with it for the coming year and we have stopped using Singapore and have found a really great math book called MathSmart that K is enjoying and I find it is par to Singapore and MUCH cheaper :) Other than that I'm not sure, I have to incorporate more Canadian history this year so I'm researching on that right now and trying to figure out what to buy for that. Hopefully I can find most of it used again this year to which would be an added bonus! Way to go on the weight loss to! I need to get back to a more strict diet but haven't really set my heart into it yet so until I do I know I won't succeed. It's on my list of goals though :) Have a blessed Sunday,
Rosina

Hello!

One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord. This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (10, 8 and 3) and a toddler son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
