This has been a full week with little breathing room. I'm exhausted! We spent every day in town this week except Thursday and Friday. Phew!
Monday we took the kids to town for their last official Audience of One meeting. They will perform next Friday night for a fundraiser. While in town I signed the kids up for swimming lessons this summer. That was a real ordeal, and after at least an hour, one of the girls still didn't end up in the right class. Of course the class is full now, so we we have three kids on waiting lists... I also signed the kids up for the summer reading program that starts this Tuesday.
Tuesday I worked in town all day.
Wednesday I took the kids into town because my oldest daughter has been suffering from back pain for months and it just isn't going away on its own. We took xrays and then hung out at McDonald's. In the evening we took the kids to the circus. That was a fun, albeit expensive recreation. It won't be a regular thing, but we enjoyed splurging this once.
Thursday night we enjoyed spending the afternoon and evening with visitors who are fast becoming good friends. We were sad when they left after lunch on Friday.
Of course I am still weighing my homeschooling options, and at this point feel like we will probably go back with Sonlight, our own Bible, Five in a Row and perhaps some Homeschoolinthewoods supplementation for the older girls.
On the Homefront:
Tim is making great progress on the chicken coop.
In the School Room:
We've made it to the last week of our official school year. This week we've doubled up on spelling, did math, Bible, and state reports. Our read aloud continued to be "Little Britches", but we are almost finished. The language is a little too much, so I often have to change the words as I read it. That is the beauty of read-alouds, though, isn't it?! The girls also finished the biography of Juliette Gordon Low and worked on their girl scout projects. They did one day of nature journaling, but we've had a lot of rain this week. We should finish officially this next week.
Preschool: We had a couple of good days, and in them we got through about two weeks worth of school!
On the Mission Field:
Things are beginning to ramp up around here. This week we will start another Discipleship Training School. The teams in Pak and China/Mongolia are sending good reports. Pretty soon our community will be more than doubled. Things also went well again at the clinic.
In the Literary Scene:
I finished This Beloved Land, the 5th in the Arcadia series by Janette Oke. I really enjoyed all of this series. I also read the book that completes the Little House series written after Laura Ingalls Wilder's death. Did you know Laura had a baby brother between Carrie and Grace? They lived in a little town called Burr Oak, Iowa for a season between Minnesota - On the Banks of Plum Creek and South Dakota - On the Shores of Silver Lake.
Feeding on His Faithfulness,
Carol
If you would like to join me in this theme, just write up your own weekly summary, using mine or your own categories. Then click onto the Mr. Linky below and leave your name and the link to your summary. I'd love to read your weekly summaries too! I hope to post mine on each Friday or Saturday. At the latest it will be on Sunday. If you get yours done before I do, just leave your link in my cbox and I will put it up for you when I get mine done.
I am so glad you got to take the kids to the circus. It is so expensive so I know how hard that is to do! The barnum and baily circus comes here each year and we have only gone once. We try to catch the free parade the day before.
I remember swim lessons and the craziness that goes with it. A must have skill though. Praying your kids get off the list and into a class.
I love your chicken coop! Those are gonna be some great eggs. Grass and bug fed chickens lay very yellow yoked eggs that just taste so much better.
Praying for your dear ones back pain. For an answer.
Praying for peace in the midst of all the "stuff".The Lord knows the big picture and has all in His hands. Hugs!
Congratualtions on being on your last week! We read Little Britches this year too and I also found myself changing words. I love how Sonlight saves the "changing words" books for our read alouds and not the silent readers. Lord bless your final week!
Tell me more about Sonlight...I know it is pricy. But I am creative and able to find used or borrow. My gals will be in 8th and 10th this year. We will do the same history. One ( oldest ) needs to read more. She hates reading ( how with a mom and dad who eat sleep and breath books I do not know). Anyway is this curriculum too young for a 10th grader? Or does it cover the facts enough for her to have a good spine in this era for history? I am not interested in her knowing it all but knowing the key elements and understanding how the past formed the present ect. We prefer hands on and I love historical fiction. She has a couple of hard classes this year and I would like history to be more enjoyable for her. Her sister would love all the reading and history.
Love the new look on your blog! We have been running around here too. I think it is just that time of year. It is supposed to be cloudy with a chance of rain all week. It is almost a relief. With all the daylight and sun being such a rare thing (usually) you just don't want to waste a minute of it. I have been falling asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Looks like your chicken coop is coming along. I'm going to try and take some pictures today and post them tomorrow. Missing our chats online, but it is such a busy time of year for both of us. Hope you are having a beautiful warm day!
I'd love to take my kids to the circus sometime. It always comes in March and March is never a good time for us to go. The chicken coop looks grand. How many will it hold?
Jenn
What a full week you had there, Carol. I'm glad that you went to the circus - it was probably a wonderful reprieve from all the responsiblities you carry.
I'm glad school is wrapping up for you, too. Enjoy your summer - you need the break!
Antoinette
I haven't been to a circus in years. I hope they can find some help for your daughter's back.
Would you stop by today, if possible, and read a prayer request on my blog?
Thanks!
Letitia
Yeah for the progress of Tim's mobile chicken coop ! We are lifting your dd up in prayer.
Was that a live animal circus ? I thought they didn't do that any more. That is soooooo cool if it was. I miss those. The ones we see up here is people circus acts only. ((sniff, sniff))
Missing you and am counting down the days till you all come.
Thanks for your comment and prayers, Carol. I definitely agree that there are some things that God convicts individuals on, that he may not convict anyone else around them. These things that concern us are things they they think are additionally required for and to keep salvation; instead of it being a free gift of God. I don't know how this meeting this morning will turn out, but we have some assurances from God, and we are claiming His Word in this. Thanks again!

HA HA! I thought I was the only one who did this, and it seemed so un-CMish to me until I felt guilty! Isn't that crazy?!? I am so glad to see that someone else changes the words in a read-aloud for their home. I don't even use the word 'stupid' as it's crude and not what we teach our kids to say to or about anyone. I adjusted Ralph's language, too, or I should say, the language of his cowhand friends, which I believe was put there intentionally to show their rough, crude nature as opposed to his family's more mannerable ways.
Wow, you have been busy this past week! We went to the circus - once - but the one that comes to our area, the people were so scantily clad that it was embarrassing - gross! We won't do that again.
You are going to have some pretty spoilt chickens I see - nice house & run. I gave up on trying to have a run for our new batch and just let them free range - so far they spend most of their time between the barn & coop, so it's working out okay - hope no preditors come.
The cute bear photo that you use for the Weekly Wrap up button, is that from your place? A neat photo - I love it!! Much of the wildlife we have been seeing here are deer and wild turkey - not as exciting as bear. lol
One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord.
This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (12, 10 and 5) and a two year old son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek and serve God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
