Monday Meanderings

Bible Study/ Devotions ~ I'm making progress in my NIV Daily Bible.  I only have two months left.  I'm working at making my relationship with the Lord to be more about expectancy than expectations.  More about relationships than a to do list or expecting God to do things for me.

"Must Do"~ Order a recertification boards study guide.  Pray about what Bible/devotional material to have the girls use this year.

Home Blessing~ This week I left most of the housekeeping except laundry, cooking, and dishes for Friday so we could have a nice clean house for Sabbath.  That made Friday very stressful!  I will have to reconsider this since Fridays will be about schoolwork too here soon.

Train Them Up~ We are working on relating to each other with respect and honoring one another.  I don't feel we are making much headway!  This week we will finish our old math workbooks so the two oldest girls will be more on track when they start the new school year the next week.

Menu Planning~ Monday:  1dd10 plans on making pancake supper for the family.  Tuesday:  Spaghetti, french bread, salad.  Wednesday:  Hotdogs over a campfire, macaroni salad.  Thursday:  I work late, dad prepares.  Friday:  Taco Salad.  Saturday:  Leftovers.  Sunday:  Pizza, salad.  Hopefully I will make some desserts to have on hand this week.  Has anyone heard of Kambucha?  My husband has been making that lately.  It is supposed to be really good for you.  It is a special kind of tea.

Saturday Update 11-3-07

This is an early Monday Meanderings, as I know I won't be able to meander in blogland after I go home from work today due to computer problems at home.

I thought for my Monday Meanderings (which are usually done on Sunday anyway!) I am going to do a week in review as well as planning for my next week.

Bible Study/ Devotions ~ I've been studying the book of John with the girls for morning Bible time.  I am also feeling challenged by the Lord to start having my own times with him again.  I haven't figured out what to do consistently though.  I have the challenge of trying to get up without my two little ones hearing me and thinking they have to come get up too!

"Must Do"~   I have a few dresses and blouses that the bottom hem has come out of that I need to repair.  Didn't get to it.  I can't think of anything else that has got to be done pronto!

Home Blessing~ I still need to go through old clothes to send to India and Thailand with the DTS group that is going there in December.  I didn't do much housekeeping this week except keeping up with the laundry and dishes.  DH put in some new kitchen cabinets - very nice!  Now I just need to wait for the Lord to provide some more money so we can get a new counter top to go over them!

Train Them Up~ I can't think of anything special in this area.

Homeschooling Plans~ We're on about our 14th week of homeschooling this week.  In Bible time we've been memorizing some scriptures from Romans (1:16, 3:23-24, 5:8 plus added Romans 6:23 and 8:28).  We  may add one or two more this week too.  We are slowly reading John for the Bible class the girls are in on Sundays.  We've also been reading a little out of the Egermeier's Story Bible - both old and new testaments.

In History we have about 3 lessons left to do, but they have lots of activities with them, so I think they will take another 2-3 weeks to complete. In bedtime reading we are still reading The Secret of the Andes.  So far it is still keeping our attention.

Math is going well for 1dd10 as she made our way through her green Miquon book (2-4 lessons/day).   2dd8 started Shiller Math and it has gone very well.  We started on exercise 52 and went through 100.  They are very easy for her, so we are whizzing through it, but I feel it is giving her a good foundation and fun with it before we catch up to the "harder" stuff.  I figure at the rate of 30 minutes a day she will continue to do 10-15 activities a day and get through this first book by December or by Christmas at the latest.  Then we will move to the second book and see how she does and set the pace the same - 30 minutes a day - and see how much she can get done.  I've also decided to do the same length of time with 1dd10, because she often whizzes through her two-four pages, and she might as well do more so she can get caught up.

We are loving the new spelling program (Sequential Spelling).  We are up to list 30 now.

Mountain Princess's reading list has included about six Magic Treehouse books a week in her free reading,  and finished Pocahantas and the Strangers.  This week she starts a book about Squanto.  Snow Crystal is still working on The Secret Valley.  Mountain Princess is doing Sonlight Language Arts level 3 and she just finished week 7.  She also does Susan Marlow's Writing Workshop  (I highly recommend this if you have a child who likes to write stories).  Snow Crystal is doing Sonlight LA grade 2 and she just finished week 7 as well.  She also does Explode the Code book 5, and Handwriting Without Tears cursive handwriting.

We didn't do much science this week.

Dora Lover (3dd3) I think I am going to try to do a Five in a Row week with her using How to make an Apple Pie and See the World.

What is Happening Ministry-wise:

This week we will have a speaker here from the Navajo nation for the DTS students by the name of Rod Wilson.  Please be praying for him and for the students that God's Word would be spoken and received.

Our current DTS is about half-way through its 3 month lecture phase.  This week they are in Estes Park, Colorado at a missions conference for the week.  They left this morning.  They just learned this week that they will be heading to Thailand and India in December for their 3 month outreach phase to complete their training.  They are a really good group of about eleven students from all over the country and also New Zealand.   Pray for them as they are trying to obtain visas, immunizations, and plane tickets over the next couple of weeks.

Monday Meanderings

Bible Study/ Devotions ~ Continue to journal my prayers and read from the One Year Bible daily.  We finished the Child's Story Bible with the kids, so I may just start reading from my One Year Bible with them and see how that goes.

"Must Do"~ Sew on buttons on the girls' clothes that are missing buttons.  (had that finished by Tuesday, I think).  Finish covering the girls' reading books and Sonlight Core K books.

Home Blessing~ I need to clean out the mudroom and the coat closet, getting rid of stuff we don't use and getting ready for the snow that will probably start to fall in the next few weeks.  (Didn't do any of that last week ).  I've also got this new schedule I've put together, so hopefully I will be a bit better about getting things done:

Catch up laundry

Take out trash and recyclables

Make new homeschooling schedule

Monday

Tuesday

Saturdays - on alternate days that I don't work

Train Them Up~ Continue to work on first time obedience, and not arguing with me when I tell  ask them to do something.  Start an education program with 3dd3.  (The first week of her prehomeschool went well). Start Sonlight language arts with the older two girls.  (This too went well).

Monday Meanderings

  1. Bible Study/ Devotions ~ I didn't do so well.  I want to make this a priority above computer time this week.  I want to journal in my prayer journal, and spend more time at Jesus' feet before I ever turn on the computer!
  1. "Must Do"~ Last week's I “Must”s
  • Start thinking about weekly menu for next week - so I can be ready ahead of time!   I did this a little.
  • Go over things I still need to order for school and make the order!  Done.  Made the order Sunday!
  • Go to the urologist and go over my test results from a few weeks ago.  I have surgery scheduled for October 1, but I am having second thoughts.  I think I may back out of it.
  • Take Josiah to his 9 month well child check.  Done.  He is doing well.  Still 90% for weight, and over the chart for height!
  • Start doing scrunches and back exercises to tone this tummy and improve my posture.  I also need to get back to doing kegels (ah man!)  Didn't get this one done!  Bad Carol!

This week's I "must":

  • Finish sewing on buttons and doing some sewing that I've put off far too long!
  • Write up a schedule and stick to it for housework and chores.
  • Prioritize family over computer.  I'm much happier when I keep up with the household chores and take care of the girls, than when I let myself get carried away with computer time and let those things go.

3. Train Them Up~ Working on schedules for both the girls and for myself.  I need to be a better example of what I do with my time when the girls are around.  I also need to be a better example of wife and mother by keeping the house cleaner and more organized.

4. Menu Planning~

Monday: Rainbow trout (again because dh will be fishing all day with a friend).

Tuesday: Cheddar and cauliflower soup

Wednesday: Stirfry

Thursday:  I'll be working in town.  Dh will be in charge of this meal

Friday:  Pizza or Spaghetti night.

Saturday:  Leftovers or dh will make, as I will be working all day.

Sunday: As usual this is family night and we will have popcorn, cheese and apple slices as we do a family activity together.  Last night we watched some old Little House on the Prairie shows.

Dessert:  Kiefer smoothies, and probably make something out of the peaches I froze this past week.

To view more menus for MPM hop on over to Laura's blog!

If you are participating in "Monday Meanderings" or "Menu Plan Monday" be sure to leave a link on Mister Linky and link back so others can share and join in too!

I hope you all have a wonderfully blessed week!

One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To behold the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His temple, the temple of the Lord. This is my everyday thoughts about being a mother to three little ladies (12, 10 and 5) and a two year old son. We serve God full-time, and I am a physician assistant. I have the most awesome husband in the world. I am trying to seek and serve God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength.
