My Fathers World

Friday, August 10---Curriculum
What curriculum do you use?

I have had a lot of questions about My Fathers World homeschool curriculum so I am going to share as much as I can in this post though im sure there will be many more posts to come on this great curriculum. We love it!!! It has been a very easy, sibling friendly and fun curriculum to use. I know for Kindergarten and 1st Grade a curriculum is really not necessary but I am not the most creative person in the world (though im getting better) With this curriculum I don’t have to plan anything (which can be so time consuming) With 4 little ones, using this curriculum for me has been a lifesaver. The lesson plans are so well thought out. Each lesson is mapped out for me day by day and it is fun but most importantly it has a biblical foundation. Each lesson has a Biblical concept and for our family this was a must. To see an overview of all the lesson's click HERE.

As far as prep time I usually take a good 30-45 minutes to get the weeks lessons together. Prep for each lesson includes a fact sheet that I pull up off the net for the week’s science topic (Encyclopedias would be ideal but we don’t yet have a set)

For example this weeks lesson is on Leaves and tree's, I will use the following sites for my facts and crafts...
Leaf & Tree facts

Leaf Crafts

On the weeks flash card I write out an outline for each day including the "Words to remember" and the weeks scriptures. I use this as a quick reference tool so I don't have to keep going back to the book. (My memory is not what it used to be) LOL

(Excuse my very sloppy writing )

We also have our library trip to find the coordinating books needed for each week. I also take a few minutes during my bedtime routine to make sure I have everything in order or have everything I need for the following days lesson.

Everything is very neat and tidy, takes up no room at all. I have each lesson for the year filed in a large accordion file. As I pull a fact sheet or ideas for crafts I add them to the appropriate lesson in the accordion file.

I pulled up a few things from the MFW site that might be of interest to those of you deciding if this might be a curriculum for your children.

About MFW

  • Recognizes the Bible, God's truth, to be the foundation of wisdom and education.
  • Utilizes hands-on, unit studies with daily lesson plans that are easy-to-teach.
  • Enables families and multi-age groups to learn together. Many of our programs may be taught to a range of ages simultaneously.
  • Combines the best of Charlotte Mason's ideas and classical education with a Biblical worldview, an international focus and our own observations of how children learn.
  • Uses a comprehensive sequenced learning program beginning with preschool learning toys to develop readiness skills. Our complete unit-based curriculum includes a phonics-based learning-to-read program and focuses on God's amazing creation (kindergarten), the world of the Bible (first grade), and U.S. history (second or third grade). Then a year of geography sets the foundation for four years of chronological world and U.S. history.
  • Provides easy-to-teach, integrated curriculum that is enjoyable, academically strong, and focused on character development.
  • Is committed to the Lord of All, who tenderly searches for people from every tribe and language. A portion of our profits helps support mission work overseas, especially Bible translation projects. Our heart's desire is that someday soon all people would be able to read of God's love in their own language.

Thanks! Share those ideas and thoughts with me too!!! Hey I might need them or might not have thought of them! :-) Everything I have learned I usually have learned from somewhere or at least got an idea from somewhere . I think that is the greatness of blogging like this, we can glean so much from each other! :-)

Tiany, Thank you so much for taking the time to post this info on MFW. I really wish we had bought this curriculum instead of what we are using now for Kindergarten. We are using Calvert...a secular curriculum. (My hubbie decided on this one) I have found that it is somewhat boring for my son to use. And there are hardly any crafts at all...which I think is one of the things that you should definitely have in Kindergarten. Anyway, thanks so much! Maybe I will search on ebay for this. Blessings to you! ~Holly

Oh Tiany, you seem so organized. I really respect that and it looks like it is paying off beautifully. I am sure that the Lord will continue to bless you for all your efforts. I have heard a great deal about this curriculum. We are using Konos this year and I am enjoying it as well. I love all your ideas on schooling and character training. I am a firm believer in the latter, and it looks like you are too.

It is so hard to know what curriculum to go with. Especially when you are first beginning. I only have one more to go with teaching reading unless God works a miracle! :) In a way I hate to change, but when I see things like this I wonder if it would be better. Anyway, I love to look regardless so thanks for helping make my window shopping so pleasant! :) Praying for you! Eva

Thanks for all the information about the curriculum. Currently we are using Abeka for my 8yr old, for my 4yr old-I've been printing sheets off the internet daily(this can be very time consuming!) I agree having the curriculum saves time since it's all planned out.
You have all your information so organized and neat! juliet
