East to West

Posted in Weekend Praise

Find more Then Sings My Soul Saturday songs here!

As some of you may know from previous posts...there was a short period a few weeks ago when I was struggling spiritually, physically and  emotionally  and this song touched me and ministered to me  like no other could have at that time, it was exactly what I was feeling, what I needed to hear  to shake it off so to speak and tread on, moving up to the higher calling which the Lord had before me!

He knows every thought, every hurt, every moment of anxiety, feeling of failure and he sweetly can minister to us and prayerfully walk us out of that dark place if we will only allow him to take it from us, if we can just find that quiet place where we can hear him speaking to us so clearly and lovingly!

In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
'cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other...

CASTING CROWNS LYRICS

"East To West"

Here I am, Lord, and I'm drowning in your sea of forgetfulness
The chains of yesterday surround me
I yearn for peace and rest
I don't want to end up where You found me
And it echoes in my mind, keeps me awake tonight
I know You've cast my sin as far as the east is from the west
And I stand before You now as though I've never sinned
But today I feel like I'm just one mistake away from You leaving me this way

Jesus, can You show me just how far the east is from the west
'cause I can't bear to see the man I've been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
'cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other

I start the day, the war begins, endless reminding of my sin
Time and time again Your truth is drowned out by the storm I'm in
Today I feel like I'm just one mistake away from You leaving me this way

I know You've washed me white, turned my darkness into light
I need Your peace to get me through, to get me through this night
I can't live by what I feel, but by the truth Your word reveals
I'm not holding on to You, but You're holding on to me
You're holding on to me

Jesus, You know just how far the east is from the west
I don't have to see the man I've been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
'cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other
One scarred hand to the other
From one scarred hand to the other

Have a very blessed weekend ladies, I love you all!

For the Beauty of the Earth

Posted in Weekend Praise

This is my favorite Hymn, I first heard it in one of my favorite movies the 1994 version of "Little Women".

Go here to learn more about Weekend Praise.

"For the Beauty of the Earth"

 Listen Here~ "MIDI"

Short history of the famous sacred song "For the Beauty of the Earth," and profiles of author Folliott Pierpoint and composer Conrad Kocher.
  • Hymn: For the Beauty of the Earth
  • Hymn-writer/author: Folliott S. Pierpoint (1835-1917)
  • Composer: Conrad Kocher (1786-1872)
  • Name of Tune: "Dix"
  • Scripture Reference: Hebrews 13:15 - "Let us, then, always offer praise to God as our sacrifice through Jesus, which is the offering presented by lips that confess him as Lord." (GNB)

"For the Beauty of the Earth" expresses so many wonderful blessings of life often taken for granted. It directs a grateful praise to God, the creator of all things beautiful, and His most perfect gifts.

Folliott S. Pierpoint, the hymn-writer, reminds us of all our blessings - the physical beauties surrounding us and the joys of home and friends. Finally, he gives thanks for the ministry of the church, God's house of believers who do the divine tasks and purposes on earth.

Words/Text: By Folliott Piermont

Pierpoint was born in Bath, England, in 1835, and was a lay member of the Anglican Church. Following his graduation from Queen's College, Cambridge, he taught the classics for a time at Somerset College, and later became a freelance writer. He published 7 volumes of poems and hymn texts, many of them showing his love for nature. He was about 29 years old when he wrote the text. It was in the late spring while enjoying the surrounding area of his native city of Bath in England that he was awed by the beautiful countryside with its winding cool and peaceful river, Avon, in the distance. Overwhelmed with emotion, he expressed his feelings of gratitude by writing this sacred song.

He is best remembered for this one beautiful hymn "For the Beauty of the Earth."

Music: By Conrad Kocher, Tune Name: "Dix"

The tune name "Dix" came from the association of this melody with William Dix's hymn, "As With Gladness Men of Old," another beautiful hymn, often sung in Protestant services on Christmas to celebrate Christ's birth. Its composer, Conrad Kocher, born in Wurttëmberg in 1786, was an important musician and reformer of German church music.

The Hymn: "For the Beauty of the Earth"

This hymn first appeared in a collection of poems published in 1864. It was entitled "The Sacrifice of Praise" taken from the Scripture in Hebrews 13:15. It consisted of 8 six-line stanzas of which four are omitted in some hymnals. A verse not included in most hymnals gives thanks for God Himself, who has made all of the joys and beauties of life possible (refer to source consulted below, by Kenneth Osbeck):

"For Thyself, best Gift Divine! To our race so freely given;

For that great, great love of Thine, peace on earth, and joy in heaven:

Lord of all, to Thee we raise, this our hymn of grateful praise."

"For the Beauty of the Earth" has proven to be a favorite hymn for children. It was first written as a communion hymn in the Anglican Church service but has since become one of the favorite hymns during the thanksgiving season.

First stanza of "For the Beauty of the Earth":

For the beauty of the earth,

For the glory of the skies,

For the love which from our birth,

Over and around us lies:

Refrain:

Christ our God, to Thee we raise

This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies.

Refrain

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour,
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon, and stars of light.

Refrain

For the joy of ear and eye,
For the heart and mind’s delight,
For the mystic harmony
Linking sense to sound and sight.

Refrain

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth and friends above,
For all gentle thoughts and mild.

Refrain

For Thy Church, that evermore
Lifteth holy hands above,
Offering up on every shore
Her pure sacrifice of love.

Refrain

For the martyrs’ crown of light,
For Thy prophets’ eagle eye,
For Thy bold confessors’ might,
For the lips of infancy.

Refrain

For Thy virgins’ robes of snow,
For Thy maiden mother mild,
For Thyself, with hearts aglow,
Jesu, Victim undefiled.

Refrain

For each perfect gift of Thine,
To our race so freely given,
Graces human and divine,
Flowers of earth and buds of Heaven.

Refrain

BFF Award & Weekend Praise

Posted in Weekend Praise

Wow, what a busy week we have had. Our Field trip to the firetruck factory was so much fun, my ears are still ringing from the 15 or so children that took turns playing with sirens and speakers but it was worth it! Of course I have lots of fun pictures to share too!

Today I babysat for a friend and the boys had a ton of fun with her boys. My boys took such good care of her little one lavishing hugs and baby kisses on him. I don't know what it is but I have some majorly affectionate boys. I tell Troy its because for the first year of life my lips pretty much don't come off of them , after a year they are to busy running for all of mamas lovin  If there is a baby within 10 feet of them they will find it and dive in to kiss, hug and caress its little face (including strangers mind you) I have had to teach them to ask before they touch someone else's little one. They hug each other constantly and I love yous are tossed around the house all day too. I love it!!! I wouldn't have it any other way. Makes this mams heart soar!

Something else that makes my heart soar are my friends both near and far! I think you know who you are, you put a smile on my face, make me laugh, brighten my days and encourage me along this wonderful path of  motherhood! One friend specifically that does all things and more is Linda! I cant help but smile when I think of her and her precious family! She has blessed me more time then she could ever know! Linda I appreciate you, I genuinely care for you and your family and I wish we did not have to live so far away because I would be creeping over to your house for coffee as often as possible :-) Be sure to stop by her blog "Homeschooling 6" and glean some wisdom from this wonderful mother of "6"!

Linda blessed me last week with a very special treat! An "oh so cute" award!

I don't normally pass many awards on for more then one reason but I thought I should share this one with a few ladies that have become close and dear to my heart. (through blogging of all things) I want them to know how much I appreciate them and all that they share on a daily basis! I am a better person for having "known" them and they brighten my days in many many ways! The list could be endless but I will try to just pick a few this time around :-)

Weekend Praise

Posted in Weekend Praise

We have had one busy week here at our home and on my bloggy home too We have had homeschool group outings, a birthday party, park days and I am thrilled that we have absolutely nothing , nada, zip, zilch , zero planned for this weekend except to veg out at home and catch up on cleaning and chores!

I will announce the winners to the Fall bloggy giveaways some time tomorrow , so check back if you have entered!

I have had a few ladies asking if I will make a "Meme" out of Weekend Praise, I did not want my blog to become one big meme so I decided not to but with you ladies asking I realize that there might be a need from some readers.  I am glad to here it has been a blessing for some of you and that some of you would like to join in sharing your Weekend Praise.

So as of this post you can snag the graphic, "LEFT" click and it will open in a new window then right click on it in that new window and save it to your computer. I'm know  you all realize I do have a large, fun, energetic family that must be my first priority so I might not get around to commenting on blogs that participate.

We will see how things go in the weeks ahead , I might continue it as a meme but if there is not a need I will remove the Mr Linky. How does that sound?

For this weekends Song I want to share another  favorite (I have lots of them), when I first heard this song I was so convicted and lately I have been feeling as though I am just not doing enough, I am not meeting the Lord where I know I can, I should and I must. This weekend I am going to re-prioritize a few things and make some new goals , yep always making goals and trying to reach for bigger, better and greater things in myself and from those around me.  I am content, I am always content where the Lord has me but I also feel his gentle hand pressing at my back to continue, to press on to never remain stagnant in my walk with him, as a wife to Troy, as a mother to my children or as a friend, daughter or sister! I can always work on something to better myself, especially when it is in my power through the Lord Jesus Christ to do so!
I know a few of you are already doing some sort of a music theme on the weekend, feel free to link up and share the blessing with others so that they too may be blessed!

I am not sure what the 50 years thing is at the end of the video but it was my favorite one made for this song so I chose to share it anyway.

Have a wonderful  weekend!!!

Micah's song and Our "clever" conversation.

Posted in Weekend Praise

The last few days have been very busy, the weather has been beautiful and so we have spent most of our time outdoors. We had a wonderful time at the pumpkin patch, lots of fun pics to come.

This weekend I am going to share one of Micah’s favorite songs, we sing this song all over the house together   Its “When I call on Jesus” by Nicole C. Mullen

This Youtube clip wont be as visually appealing as the others I have posted but the song and the words are the important part so I hope it will still be a blessing to you!

Before I share the song I wanted to share a conversation Micah and I had. Short but sweet..

Micah was asking lots of questions about the first Youtube clip I shared called “What If”

Micah~ Mama why do they have those monkeys behind the man? (evolution)

Mama~ Well Micah, some people think we evolved from Apes, some people don’t believe in Gods creation.

Micah ~ Why?

Mama~ They don’t believe in the Bible.

Micah~ Why

Mama ~ They don’t believe in God.

Micah ~ Mama, those are some silly people, now how is a Man going to come from an Ape and anyways, who do they think made the Apes?

That’s my boy!!!!

Now onto Micah’s favorite song and my Weekend Praise...

What is Weekend Praise? Go here to learn more.
