ok, sorry this took so long...hope you enjoy it! oh and that you SAMIAM for the new template! part 4 They rode for awhile before Amber turned her horse back towards the wagons. "What are you doing?" Asked Chris. "I'm not going to leave them, we will stay out of site that's all," she moved Monty in to a walk, "but we're going to have to hurry if we're going to catch up with the wagons." They rode in silence for about an hour before Andy spoke. "Look! There they are," "Let's move into the bushes," Amber said softly, they dismounted and moved into the bushes aways before Amber halted them, "this will be good to start a fire here, they won't see the smoke as easy, and if they do well we will deal with it then." She tied Monty to a tree and went to look for some sticks to start the fire, suddenly she heard a scream. "Panther!" The voice screamed, "Panther! Run for your lives!" Before Amber new what she was doing she took off towards the camp the only thought on her mind was getting rid of the panether. As she came into the clearing of the wagons, she seen the people running around like a herd of lost sheep, knocking things over and running into eachother. Off to the side she noticed Andy, Chris and, James trying to get the people under control while trying to find the panther, Amber picked up a shotgun that lay on the ground beside her, she fired it twice into the air. The people stopped in their tracks and stared at her. "Who seen the panther?" She asked, "I need to know." Someone push a young girl forward from the group. Amber reconized her from first day of the trip, it was Mandy, she looked scared. " Mandy, where did you see the panther?" she asked camly. "Near the river, I was getting water when I heard something move in the bush and it jumped right out at me." "Do you know if it followed you?" "No, I don't. I was running so fast I didn't notice if it did or not." Amber nodded. "Ok, I'm going to go check it out, no one leave the camp!" She turned to leave but a voice stopped her. "Wait!" It was Jacob, "how did you get here? didn't I fire you?" "Yes, you did but we followed you, and aren't you glad we did? Because if we haden't one of you would be panther food right now!" Jacob seemed at a loss for words, he stared at her a few moments before he spoke, "I don't suppose you would want to be rehired would you?" Amber grinned, "I will think about it." She turned back towards the river, "Chris, James look around the left and right sides of the wagons, Andy go check the back. Be careful." "Will do," they all answered and the same time. Amber started to walk down to the river, when she reached the spot where Mandy had seen the panther, she couldn't even see any sign that the panther had been there. She frowned in confusion, normaly they would leave large paw prints, suddenly Amber noticed something. Small foot prints and large ones, she new the small ones would have been Mandy, but the large ones looked like they were made by a man, a very large man. She seen where Mandy had walked to the river to get water then, she seen that the "panther" had lunged out of the bush at her. Mandy had then taken off, the animal only turned around and walked back into the bush. "Strange thing," she thought aloud, "that we never heard it scream, and Mandy never said anything about it screaming." Amber followed the tracks into the bush, it wasn't long before she noticed the pelt of a panther laying on the ground. She bent over and ran her hand along the fur, someone had put this on to put a scare into the people, they were still trying to keep the away from the land. But who had done this? She new she would just have to find out. (part five is coming soon!) |

please excuse any mistakes i may have missed. horsegal Part three Amber wasn't sure how many hours had passed she almost hope that they would stop soon. She was hot and tired, Jacob had pushed the wagons far today, and the sun had already started to set. She rode up to the front wagon. "When were your plans to stop?" She asked. "If we keep moving-" "We can't!" "Why?!" "Do you have any idea how hard it will be to travel after dark? There are many night animals and they are not friendly, take if from someone who has come face to face with a panther while trying to travel after dark. Let me tell you, they will try their best to get you down, and there is a native reserve around here," she stop for a breath. "Oh, well we will pull up here." Jacob said, "Stop the wagons!" The wagons slowly came to a stop. Amber pulled up her horse, turning him towards the back she moved him into a faster pase. "Hey, things good back here?" she asked coming to a stop infront of Andy, "Where is James?" "He went to check something out, he left about ten minutes ago." "Why didn't you tell me?!" "He said that it wasn't any big worry." "Which way did he go?" "He headed south, are you going after him?" Amber nodded, "tell Chis I should be back by sun down, if I'm not don't come looking for me I will be able to find you guys and catch up." "Ok." Amber turn her horse south and moved off. She glanced to the ground looking for a sign of hoof prints moving away from the wagons. After riding for about twenty minutes, she seen tracks heading off, frowning she moved into a faster pace, sundown was coming and the last thing she wanted was to run into a panther. Fallowing the tracks into the bush she came upon a camp the had been abandon this morning she was sure of it. Amber glanced down and seen tracks where James had gotten off and looked around, Amber grinned as she seen tracks of the horse taking off and James had ran after it. Then she frowned, now she was going to have to find him that much faster, before something got him. Suddenly the trees moved beside her, the horse side steped quickly, "whoa!" Amber pulled her gun and aimed at the bush, "Alright who ever is in there come on out." James pushed the bush aside and came walking out. "Would you please not point that thing at me?" "James?!" Amber put her gun away, "what are you doing here? I thought you went after your horse." "Who told you that?" "Your tracks." " I went after him, but I couldn't keep up, so I came back here, because I knew you would come looking for me." "Well your lucky I did." Amber said, "Get on," she reached her hand down and helped James get on behind her, "you better hope that Jacob can lend you a horse or your riding in the wagon." "Yea, but on to something more inportant, did you see the camp? That means someone is following us." "No it means that they are ahead of us...by atleast a day. The camp had been left this moring, so they are trying to get to the land first." "Great and I was hoping that no one would try to bother us." "The hard part about it is that we don't know how many there are. So we'll have to keep better watch. And not leave without telling anyone!" "OK ok!" As they came upon the camp Amber see a few extra horses standing on the out skirts of the wagon circle, " looks like they beat us here," she murmerd, she turned the horse back to the bush. Stopping him, she swung off the horse James tied it to a tree. "Go around the left side, don't get caught." "Right," he said as he moved off. Amber pulled her gun and moved towards the right side of the wagons, when she got to the wagon, seeing the fire in the middle with three men sitting around it, Andy and Chris where off to the side their hands behind their back, Amber wondered were the people were. But that wasn't what she needed to worry about now. One of the men started to talk. "When is Peter coming?" One said, "he said he would be here, I sure don't want to be around when the other two get back, they won't be happy." "Well thats why we are going to keep an eye out for them," said the second. Amber aimed her gun at the fire knowing if she hit it just so, the flames would explode giving her and James a chance to move in. She fired, instantly the flames exploded. She heard the shouts of the three men as they tried to get out of the way of the flames. Amber ran over to Chris and Andy. "Glad your here," said Chris, as she untied him ,"they came up on us fast, there were about five two left." "Took us by sirprise," added Andy. "They shouldn't have," Amber said as she finished freeing Chris, "why do you think that Jacob hired us? To protect them. We aren't doing a very good job!" "OK, your right we weren't paying attention, but atleast we have em now, they will have to answer our questions," Andy said. "Hey, guys!" James came running up, "they got away I couldn't catch them. And I found my horse at the edge of the camp." Amber glanced towards Andy, he shrugged. "Where are the people?" She asked James. "Hiding in the wagons." "No one was hurt?" "Nope, oh look here comes Jacob." Jacob came stalking over. "Where were you when they came?!" He bellowed. "I was out looking for-" "You should have been here!" He yelled, "someone could have been hurt!" "I know and I'm sorry! It won't happen again!" "Your right it won't! I'm firing you!" " Look I know your mad, but thats not the best idea," Amber spoke slowly in order to hold her temper. " Oh? and why not?" "Because you have no idea how to survive here, you won't last long." "We will do fine." Amber reached for her reins, "I'm sorry it had to come to this," she mounted with the men in tow, and they headed back to town. (part four on the way) |

(I hope you enjoy this part of my story, please me know if a made any mistakes :) ) "Hey!" A loud voice called knocking Amber out of her thoughts. "What?" She asked James. "Your sure you have everything?" Amber sigh, she looked over the wagons and the people. This wagon train had come in two days ago, and has asked her, James, Andy, and Chris to ride with them out to their land, due to some people who where after their land for whatever reason. She closed her eyes. "Remind me again why we are doing this." "Because the mayor asked us to and we wanted to help." Andy answered riding up. "Thank you Andy," James said, " but I think she was talking to me." " Well I answered for you!" Amber smiled, James and Andy bickerd alot but nothing could seperate them. She glanced up as Jacob came walking over, he was the "head man" of the wagon train. "We're ready to take off in a about twenty minutes or so," he said. "OK," Amber answered she turned to Andy and James as Jacob walked off, " you two go ride in the back, keep your eyes open." "Will do," James said for them both and they rode towards the back of the train. Amber moved her horse into a lope towards the front of the train, she slowed as she came near the fourth wagon. A young girl was trying to lead a colt over to the wagon to tie it up, every time she got close to the wagon the colt would pull on the lead line and back up. "Can I help?" She asked the young girl. "Oh, would you?" The girl asked. Amber swung off her horse, and walked over to the girl. "What's your name?" she asked. "Mandy." "Well Mandy I would love to help, hold my horse would you?" "Sure," she answered taking the reins and handing over the colts lead. Amber moved her hand slowly down the horse's neck. "Easy boy," she said softly, tugging slightly on the lead she brought the young horse forward, he came. But seeing the wagon he stop and tried to back up," whoa whoa!" she soothed and repeated this for fifteen minutes, finely the colt moved up to the wagon. "Your going to have to take an easy with this guy, he is a still fearful of the wagon." "OK, thank you so much!" Mandy said with a smile, "you helped alot, pa won't be mad now that his colt is better," she smiled again. Amber grinned and took her horse's reins. "I'm sure I will see you later," she said as she rode towards the front of the wagon train. "OK, Bye!" Mandy called. Amber thought she may enjoy this some what after all, she would have to ask if she could help with that colt more, he sure needed it. "Hey Chris," she said walking up, "what are you up to?!" Chris was trying to pull himself into the saddle but every time he got his foot up the pinto gelding would try to walk forward knocking Chris back, he looked very angry. "This gelding won't stand, Hommer lent him to me when Allie went lame," he said refering to his mare who had tripped in a hole three days earlier. "Well when you get your foot in the sturip and he trys to walk off, pull on the reins, that should slow him down." "OK, I'll give it a shot." Chris put is foot in the stirup instanly the gelding tried to walk away, "whoa!" the gelding chewed at his bit and did a fast side step knocking Chris to the ground. What is it with the horses today? Wondered Amber, and swung off her horse and walked over to Chris, "Here," she said handing her reins to Chris, "Lemme take a look and this guy," holding his reins she walk forward the gelding threw it's head and moved forward a step. Amber frowned running her hand along the inside of the saddle, when her hand to came to the end of his rib cage, the gelding threw his head and side stepped. "Easy boy," she said. Quickly she undid the saddle and pulled it off checking his side she seen nothing, then she checked the saddle, nothing. Picking up the blanket she ran her fingers over the inside of it, a large thorn fell out of the blanket. "So that was bothering him." She grinned at Chris and threw the blanket and the saddle back on the horse. Reaching for her reins she said, "he should be good now. But his side with still be a little tender so take an easy on him." "Thanks, and I will." Chris grinned. Amber got on her horse and moved toward Jacob who stood at the front wagon. "We're ready to take off," he said. "OK, well the guys are ready when ever," Amber smiled, "I have Andy and James in the back Chris and I will be on either side." "Sounds good." Jacob got up into the wagon his wife was beside him, "Move out!" he yelled and clucked his team forward. So they were off, Amber sigh and moved to her side of the wagon train, and sat in the saddle alowing the horse to go his own speed, she glanced across the wagons there were ten, each with a family, each with dreams of making a home and life on this land. Giving their children a home and something to look back on. Something she wish she could have had. (part three coming soon!) |

Wagon Train (part 1)
Amber Willams stood looking over the Texas plains. Today four years ago her dad died. He had been run down by a herd of his mares when a panther and tried to catch one of his foals. At his passing, her brother Mic and taken over the ranch, and she felt lost she struck out on her own. She met the three most important people of her life, James, Andy, and Chris. A faint smile crossed her lips as she remembered the adventures that they had. She turn her eyes to the town they now called home; Sweetwater, it had taken many years to gain the trust of this town. But now most of the people called them the law. She sighed and turned her buckskin gelding Monty back to town. Urging him into a slow lope, she thought back to her father. He had never been proud of her, he in fact hated her because she acted as more of a man then a woman. She had broke some of his most wild horses. If he ever liked her breaking them, he never showed it. He always told her to put on a dress and act lady like instead of always wearing pants riding a horse and carrying a gun. Amber frowned as Andy came loping up. "What do you want Andy?" She asked. "Some folks from the wagon train that came in yesterday want us to," he stopped for a breath, "to ride with them to their land." Amber stared at him. "Why?" She asked. "Say they got a few enemies, which want to steal their land." Amber frowned, the wagon train had come in yesterday, and she guessed about fifty people were on it. She couldn't think of who would want to steal the land of for what reason. "Why us?" She asked slowing Monty into a walk as they neared town. "Mayor said we would be the best." "Big surprise," she sigh and looked over the town, "when are they leavin’?" "Tomorrow." “Ok, I'll go." "Great! Lemme’ go tell James and Chris." He took off. Amber rolled her eyes. Great, she was off again, she had hoped to stay in Sweetwater for awhile. She stopped Monty in front of the jail house knowing that Chris would be there. "Hey," she said walking into the jail, "so you’re going too?" "Yea if you guys go I guess I'll go too." Amber laughed "Well don't sound so happy!" "I'll be happy when I'm sure we won't be killed." "Well we'll have to wait and see." Amber looked out the window of the jail house and wondered what was in store for her and her friends. |
