Wagon Train (part 1)
Amber Willams stood looking over the Texas plains. Today four years ago her dad died. He had been run down by a herd of his mares when a panther and tried to catch one of his foals. At his passing, her brother Mic and taken over the ranch, and she felt lost she struck out on her own. She met the three most important people of her life, James, Andy, and Chris. A faint smile crossed her lips as she remembered the adventures that they had. She turn her eyes to the town they now called home; Sweetwater, it had taken many years to gain the trust of this town. But now most of the people called them the law. She sighed and turned her buckskin gelding Monty back to town. Urging him into a slow lope, she thought back to her father. He had never been proud of her, he in fact hated her because she acted as more of a man then a woman. She had broke some of his most wild horses. If he ever liked her breaking them, he never showed it. He always told her to put on a dress and act lady like instead of always wearing pants riding a horse and carrying a gun. Amber frowned as Andy came loping up. "What do you want Andy?" She asked. "Some folks from the wagon train that came in yesterday want us to," he stopped for a breath, "to ride with them to their land." Amber stared at him. "Why?" She asked. "Say they got a few enemies, which want to steal their land." Amber frowned, the wagon train had come in yesterday, and she guessed about fifty people were on it. She couldn't think of who would want to steal the land of for what reason. "Why us?" She asked slowing Monty into a walk as they neared town. "Mayor said we would be the best." "Big surprise," she sigh and looked over the town, "when are they leavin’?" "Tomorrow." “Ok, I'll go." "Great! Lemme’ go tell James and Chris." He took off. Amber rolled her eyes. Great, she was off again, she had hoped to stay in Sweetwater for awhile. She stopped Monty in front of the jail house knowing that Chris would be there. "Hey," she said walking into the jail, "so you’re going too?" "Yea if you guys go I guess I'll go too." Amber laughed "Well don't sound so happy!" "I'll be happy when I'm sure we won't be killed." "Well we'll have to wait and see." Amber looked out the window of the jail house and wondered what was in store for her and her friends. |
