|
(I hope you enjoy this part of my story, please me know if a made any mistakes :) ) "Hey!" A loud voice called knocking Amber out of her thoughts. "What?" She asked James. "Your sure you have everything?" Amber sigh, she looked over the wagons and the people. This wagon train had come in two days ago, and has asked her, James, Andy, and Chris to ride with them out to their land, due to some people who where after their land for whatever reason. She closed her eyes. "Remind me again why we are doing this." "Because the mayor asked us to and we wanted to help." Andy answered riding up. "Thank you Andy," James said, " but I think she was talking to me." " Well I answered for you!" Amber smiled, James and Andy bickerd alot but nothing could seperate them. She glanced up as Jacob came walking over, he was the "head man" of the wagon train. "We're ready to take off in a about twenty minutes or so," he said. "OK," Amber answered she turned to Andy and James as Jacob walked off, " you two go ride in the back, keep your eyes open." "Will do," James said for them both and they rode towards the back of the train. Amber moved her horse into a lope towards the front of the train, she slowed as she came near the fourth wagon. A young girl was trying to lead a colt over to the wagon to tie it up, every time she got close to the wagon the colt would pull on the lead line and back up. "Can I help?" She asked the young girl. "Oh, would you?" The girl asked. Amber swung off her horse, and walked over to the girl. "What's your name?" she asked. "Mandy." "Well Mandy I would love to help, hold my horse would you?" "Sure," she answered taking the reins and handing over the colts lead. Amber moved her hand slowly down the horse's neck. "Easy boy," she said softly, tugging slightly on the lead she brought the young horse forward, he came. But seeing the wagon he stop and tried to back up," whoa whoa!" she soothed and repeated this for fifteen minutes, finely the colt moved up to the wagon. "Your going to have to take an easy with this guy, he is a still fearful of the wagon." "OK, thank you so much!" Mandy said with a smile, "you helped alot, pa won't be mad now that his colt is better," she smiled again. Amber grinned and took her horse's reins. "I'm sure I will see you later," she said as she rode towards the front of the wagon train. "OK, Bye!" Mandy called. Amber thought she may enjoy this some what after all, she would have to ask if she could help with that colt more, he sure needed it. "Hey Chris," she said walking up, "what are you up to?!" Chris was trying to pull himself into the saddle but every time he got his foot up the pinto gelding would try to walk forward knocking Chris back, he looked very angry. "This gelding won't stand, Hommer lent him to me when Allie went lame," he said refering to his mare who had tripped in a hole three days earlier. "Well when you get your foot in the sturip and he trys to walk off, pull on the reins, that should slow him down." "OK, I'll give it a shot." Chris put is foot in the stirup instanly the gelding tried to walk away, "whoa!" the gelding chewed at his bit and did a fast side step knocking Chris to the ground. What is it with the horses today? Wondered Amber, and swung off her horse and walked over to Chris, "Here," she said handing her reins to Chris, "Lemme take a look and this guy," holding his reins she walk forward the gelding threw it's head and moved forward a step. Amber frowned running her hand along the inside of the saddle, when her hand to came to the end of his rib cage, the gelding threw his head and side stepped. "Easy boy," she said. Quickly she undid the saddle and pulled it off checking his side she seen nothing, then she checked the saddle, nothing. Picking up the blanket she ran her fingers over the inside of it, a large thorn fell out of the blanket. "So that was bothering him." She grinned at Chris and threw the blanket and the saddle back on the horse. Reaching for her reins she said, "he should be good now. But his side with still be a little tender so take an easy on him." "Thanks, and I will." Chris grinned. Amber got on her horse and moved toward Jacob who stood at the front wagon. "We're ready to take off," he said. "OK, well the guys are ready when ever," Amber smiled, "I have Andy and James in the back Chris and I will be on either side." "Sounds good." Jacob got up into the wagon his wife was beside him, "Move out!" he yelled and clucked his team forward. So they were off, Amber sigh and moved to her side of the wagon train, and sat in the saddle alowing the horse to go his own speed, she glanced across the wagons there were ten, each with a family, each with dreams of making a home and life on this land. Giving their children a home and something to look back on. Something she wish she could have had. (part three coming soon!) |
