Here is a list of some ideas, for those hot, HOT days of summer. Staying cool is number one priority, and keeping hydrated. Sometimes this can be a real chore, keeping the children happy, below are a few ideas that have worked wonders for us!
.
An Indoor Scavenger Hunt
(on terrible hot days) Make your clues up and hide them about the house. One way to get a few simple chores done is to include a chore in the hunt clues. Then at the end of the hunt a fun prize will be waiting. It can be what ever your children like. Think outside the box and have some fun; while getting a few chores done at the same time.
Scrapbooking
..
On a hot summer afternoon this is a terrific time to scrapbook. What a wonderful treasure these make for years to come. Wow! Are there some fun papers, stickers, pens and the like now days. A quick trip to the local craft store and your set for many hours of fun memory making!
Make and Enjoy, A Treasure Hunt
This is fun for the older children to make for the younger ones to enjoy. Take a flat box (like a shoe box lid) and gather pretty stones and coins and treasures. Mix plaster of Paris and stir in the treasures. Pour this mix in a plastic wrap lined box and let it dry. Then after it is very hard, remove from the box and peel off the plastic wrap. Now, the fun can begin for the little ones. By using a metal nail file they can start to unearth the treasures. This is a real good way to implement counting money and identifying stones. This also makes a nice gift! Have fun!
Write A Book
..
This is a real fun way to keep a memory of the summer! Pull out all the fun crayons, stickers and fancy scissors, pens and pencils and look out! You will be amazed what the children will do and come up with. They will express them selves in a marvelous way, through the gift of book making. I really like Cindy Rushtons book, HOMEMADE BOOKS! YES! YOU CAN BE A WRITER TOO!. Visit her site and get some ideas at www.cindyrushton.com I love the e-book you can get it right away and be using it the same day. The wonders of computer, what help!
The Indoor Picnic
In one of my earlier post I share about the indoor picnic. This is a real winner for families! This simple thought has added many wonder memories to my life, from a child on up! Try it for yourself and see!
Read A Book, OUTLOUD, to the kids
There is nothing like reading a good book! Pick one that has adventure and a colorful writing style. Emilee loved the Elsie series, by Martha Finley. We would get a big glass of water and sit and read the afternoons away many days when it was hot. Although I must admit, we read many a cold winter afternoons away too. Only accompanied by multiple cups of hot tea. What fun it is sharing a good book. We would come back time and time again to see what Elsie was up to next. I really do suggest a series, which is even more fun!
ENJOY!!
God Bless and stay cool! It has been up in the 100s area for days now here in Central Missouri. We sure would appreciate prays for rain and cool temps!!
Till Next time......
