Press Toward the Goal

• Dec. 6, 2005 - Help me define the Joys

It is our job as we lead His lambs, to set the joys before them in such a way that they will long to know Him more. If we aren't setting the joys before them they may focus on the temporary pleasures around them and be like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright ( Heb. 12:16) .

So how do we define the joys? What are you communicating to your children?

Here is the start of my list:

Walking in His ways produces a growing and fruitful life. Ps 1

Only in His presence is fullness of Joy. Ps 16:11

He is preparing a place for us. Jn. 14:2

He gives joy in times of loss. Is. 61:3

We are His friends if we do what He commands. Jn. 15:14

We can abide in His love and our joy may be full. Jn. 15:11

By the power of His Spirit, we can abound in hope and be filled with joy and peace. Rom. 15:13

Please add to my list ladies. Why do you love Him? Why should our children follow Him?

I am totally fascinated by this study and will be watching it with interest as I think you are really onto something here....I think for me it all starts with just learning to slow down and walk hour by hour with the Lord in the everyday things and the joy will be the outflowing of that for me...I have to experience it first if I want to teach it, and I have to be in tune with the Lord's voice so He can tell me how to best reach each of my children. God bless you in this study.

Resting in the joy that comes from knowing our future. Just as Jeremiah 29:11 says . . . God has plans to prosper us and not harm us; plans to give us a hope and a future. Sometimes there is joy in standing in and declaring God's word over our lives.

I loved reading this blog and the contemplation that came from it. Thank you for joyfully taking us deeper ;-)

This is good edification. I will need time to just meditate on these things. I've been asking God for direction in this area (discipling our children) and this might keep me busy for quite some time.

Recently, my prayer partner and I agreed together in prayer for this same subject. The following three days, after that particular prayer, God opened my eyes to many opportunities with our boys (our daughter is only 12 months). We talked about spiritual warfare, the spiritual man vs the works of the flesh. My boys are only 9 and 5 and they really caught it! We talked about how the blood of Jesus makes them white as snow. That one came up because my son said, "Mom, I have a feeling that snow is very special." The Spirit quickened me to share the "white as snow" truth.

Sad to say, we haven't had much since. That really is sad. I think a lot has to do with being aware of those opportunities. I find myself getting so caught up with the duties of the day that I'm not taking time to be watchful. Those lessons came so naturally, that is what was amazing to me. It wasn't labored and I wasn't trying to get my boys to sit still for a lesson. They were waiting for MORE.
God help me stay in tune and perseverant. God has been kindling a fire in me regarding this. OH wait, I just remembered an email a friend sent me. I'll post it on my blog if I can find it. It's about children being the army of God.
